the favorite day for all the young kids that cant wait to open their presents
and a old tradition to remember the birth of Jesus Christ

i agree Christmas is not like before .. things have changed a lot
it has become more a materialistic day for many greedy people
it is mostly the favorite day of the retailers making big bucks
people spending big money on their cheap merchandise

Christmas in the first place is supose to be a great day for the familly
when its all snowing and cold outside and warm inside the house
with a big familly that have reunited to eat a big meal together
and having fun exchanging stories and wishes around a warm fire
with a nice decorated tree and a small baby Jesus in a creche
a day where we are generous with others .. familly or strangers
reminding us that we should be generous during the entire year







Christmas has been a tradition in my familly for a long time
the parent still love to decorate the entire house with Christmas thing
but at my place i dont do any decorations
maybe because i dont have kids and if i did .. i would decorate for them not for me

one thing about Christmas that i found annoying
is that in many place many poor people can barely eat at Christmas
the spirit of Christmas is obviously not everywhere and that is very sad

Im wondering why do certain religious people hate speaking about the Christmas day ?
that represent the birth of Jesus Christ
a few place i have worked have received complaints because of the Christmas tree we had
that were placed near the entrance each yrs (in Canada its a old tradition to do that)
but for certain people its like they found it insultive to their religion so we should respect them
i dont understand why cant they respect some old religious tradition of a country

i would never go in another country and start complaining on their old religious traditions
it would make me extremely arrogant and unrespectfull and im not like that

Here is why I like Christmas.

It seems like the one time of year when I actually see the goodness of humanity come out of hiding and expose itself. People seem to want to help others and people who have differences seem to find common ground to stand upon.....

Why do I LOVE Christmas?

People going out of their way to be nicer to each other. It seems to be extra contagious this time of year as well.

I dislike it because it is a big scam to get you to spend money you don't have on crap they don't need for people you don't like. They also want you to go out and spend money on stuff that serves no other purpose than to twinkle and look shiny, or a tree that is just going to die in a month, and if it doesn't catch your house on fire it will leave tons of needles laying around for you to clean up.

I love christmas because I hate the short days of winter.. I get kind of down and depressed without the light. Lighting up the christmas tree and having the warmth of love from the hearts of family and strangers is just what I need.

When I was little I feared growing up, because the kids got almost all the presents... I thought I wouldn't like christmas anymore..

Now I love it even more than when I was a kid, and I can't afford a single present. My kitty Loves the christmas tree he just sits under it looking up at all the lights. He will be the only thing under the tree this year, but what a present he is.

This is what Christmas have become for certain people but 25 yrs ago it was nice
now its more like i want this and this and this
my ex was doing a long list of things that she wanted each yrs for friends and familly
thats why she is my ex

The lights are a nice change of things for a bit and kids love them.

Okay, I'm corny, but I LOVE Christmas.

I like Christmas because of the lights, the cold, the dark days and nights, the snow and ice, coming in from the cold after eating roasted chestnuts and drinking mulled wine,walking through the christmas markets to a warm safe place, with people I love and eating good food and celebrating that even during the darkest of days, there is still light. Bonfires, the Yule log, the Christmas tree....but by far, I love the lights. In our modern world we have lost sight of why the lights are so important, but I always imagine what it must have been like back before daylight slavings and electricity, how dark it was and how much joy it brought seeing all those lights. The hope, safety and warmth those lights symbolize to me gets me all kinds of warm and fuzzy thinking about it

I'm gonna hate Chrimbo this year because my work hours got slashed to 12.5 hours a week, been looking for a better job and in my local press this week only 25 jobs advertised.....
So I can not afford it at all.
Plus my evil boss wants me to work Christmas eve,Christmas day, New years eve and new years day and If I say no I get fired.
Plus the fact I have been training up people who have taken my hours.
Bah humbug...can't even afford to go out on any Christmas do. I have told my family not to get me anything because I can not get them any gifts...even my poor Mum

I dislike Christmas and I am a Christian. Why? The government and atheists are intent on taking Christ out of Christmas. Witness the ad on the recent billboard that said to delete the Christ and keep the Merry.

Without a reason to celebrate the holiday becomes a consumer orgy. It has no purpose other than greed and bolstering the economy.

Christmas in our society has lost it's meaning and purpose and only serves the rich who get richer off people spending money they don't have for gifts that are quickly forgotten and discarded.

Christmas in our society should be discarded as a holiday because it has no meaning, it just enriches the already rich and sucks the life out of the poor.

We should do as the government wants, abandon Christmas altogether as a holiday.

Christians now know that Dec 25th is NOT the birthday of Christ and was stolen from pagan celebrations.

If the government wants to keep it for economic reasons then it should be renamed: Consumer Orgy day.

My only enjoyment of christmas is putting up the lights outside and making my house look nice past that, I feel it doesn't mean what it used to. I feel it's a corporate ploy to get us to part with our hard earned for no apparent reason. Me being non religious I don't fall for the hoopla surrounding that ideal of the event, so I'd say you can call me scrooge come christmas, apart from my daughter and niece and nephew I made everyone aware that unless you don't quite understand christmas (still believe in Santa and too young to know better) you are not getting a gift from me besides my presence at your house and my gift of wine and desserts for with and after dinner.

Sister said she still believes in Santa of course jokingly. But to me it has lost its appeal my family just drinks and berates each other, kids scream and yell and fight over who has the better toy, the meal comes and goes and we just wait to do it all again next year. I sometimes wish it wasen't this way, but at the same time I'm glad it only comes about once a year that we have to pretend to put on the facade....

I like Christmas because of the eggnog, presents and decorating the tree.
I don't dislike the holiday itself exactly. However, something about the culture surrounding it has made me jaded over the past couple of years, to the point where it feels like a hyped-up regular day in terms of holiday spirit. I'm not sure what it is. The commercialism? Well, I always got piles of presents as a kid and loved Christmas to heck and back, so I'm not sure. I'll have to do some thinking.

It's winter, the sky is grey, people are bored.
It's fun to give & receive gifts...and Lights are cool.

I love XMASS, it is a wonderful time for children and families. The only drawback is when you are struggling and can't afford to have decorations and presents for everyone. And make wonderful cookies.

So poverty ruins xmass. And the holiday cheer, saying its not about money is useless. Because it IS about having traditions and family celebrations and for children to be raised with consistency, for their own self esteem and that modeling for future times with their own children. And the food, the company, the beauty is something for all people. They really feel neglected and depressed when they are not able to have a normal xmass.

I don't like Xmas at all. It's origins are dubious for starters. Christ Jesus wasn't born in mid-winter and the biblical evidence seems to indicate His birth occurred in the fall, possibly during the fall festivals. If it was His birthday then aren't we supposed to be giving Him gifts instead of exchanging gifts with each other? It's not my birthday we're celebrating, right?! And why do we seem to think it's okay to lie to our children about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and other such nonsense and at the same time teach them that it's immoral to lie--isn't there an inconsistency here bordering on hypocrisy?! Then there's the commercial aspect to this holiday, not unlike other "Christian" holidays as Easter mind you, which is rooted in the debt-based, fiat money, over-spending economy of ours that encourages everyone everywhere to mindlessly buy stuff produced overseas to "stimulate" the sluggish economy while racking up a huge credit card debt that'll haunt you long into the new year. As if that's not bad enough so many "Christians" let go at this time, being "the season" and all, inordinately consuming and wasting so much food like gluttonous slugs, and then we wonder why there's an obesity epidemic?! And those like myself who don't observe the "holy" day and prefer to give gifts to others without compulsion are usually labeled "scrooges." I think all the money and food wasted at this time of year to give those who already pretty much have everything would be far better spent on those who truly have nothing. I'm sure we could feed the world 100x over and do so much more if we wanted to, but TPTB reckon that spending billions and trillions of tax dollars on outer space missions or developing weapons of war is a wiser use of our resources. And who would blame 'em when Xianity itself says one thing and does another. Anyway that's my opinion. It's a f"@&$ up world!

I like christmas, because I believe that lights should be up YEAR ROUND, EVERYWHERE. I also like the anticipation of the closing year, and the promise that something new is on the horizon...

I don't like christmas because of Santa, Rudolph, etc etc that have nothing to do with the tradition (St. Nicholas is DIFFERENT, if you are Catholic and celebrate the saints, which would be Dec. 6th, which silly me can add up to the reasons I like christmas, because I do enjoy a full stocking), the holiday is, like everyone says "shallow, corporate-capitalism fed devils-work" now.. kids whining about some $500 dollar electronic thing that wouldn't really work without plugging it in first... teaching the fresh ones the wrong things.

I cannot stand Jackson 5 christmas songs, mostly. If Christmas would go away and I wouldnt have to hear a pre-teen michael jackson sing again, I would totally make the switch.

But bottom line, I like it more than I dislike it.. Nothing like giving a gift from your heart, and watching it warm someone else's... Its all about connecting and loving, I figure every holiday is that way (st pattys, cinco de mayo, memorial day, all about love you know) And the food, yum, gimme some figgy pudding and nog and rock around our yule-tide tree.

I like it because:

1. Jesus had great values and if we ever embraced them this world would know Christmas every day.

2. It reminds me that friends and family are everything in life.

I dislike it because:

1. It is too corporate.

2. It kind of sucks that we are so kind one day of the year and then ourselves the rest of it.

3. It reminds me that while I have a great family, my friends are lacking and romance nonexistent. Basically it is a needle being jabbed into my eye screaming: "You have no life to call your own!"

So I avoid it, but I am happy people are happy, and love seeing the Jesus stuff. Jesus was a lot cooler before they tried to turn him into Santa Claus.
