I'm not a total believer in the end of the world prophecies, but recently I am thinking that surely its better to be slightly prepared, just in case.

I'm only talking batteries, bottled water the usual stuff, and not in huge quantities, but my thinking is that one of these times these are going to be correct.

Is anyone else preparing for the 'just in case' scenario???

Its hard to prepare for something unknown.. so I will take action to the threat presented, if any
But I will let the TV running on the news channel as a minimum

Noooooooooo! Nothing is going to happen. It will come and go like any other day.

I'm with you. I don't think anything is going to happen BUT I'm always stocked up on plenty of water, canned food, extra food for the dogs, and a few other things.

I think not being prepared (at any time) is foolish....and when something like this comes up, why not stock up a bit more. I'd rather have a ton of stuff I'm going to use anyway rather than be scrambling for food and water in case of an emergency

yeah same here, but i'm going to make sure i have bottles of water and enough food for a few days, i dont think anything will come of it, but its quite nerve racking to think that no-one really knows for sure, so better to be prepared

That's more of a regular day-to-day normal living scenario. I always have water and batteries. Always use them too.

So I suppose my answer would be yes/no.
Yes, I have them.
Nope, not preparing for anything out of the ordinary.

You're most likely right, BUT do you feel it's foolish to have extra stuff around just in case?

Well I will have all my Christmas baking done by the 21st.

At least we will have short-breads for the apocolypse.

We dont regularly face anything in the centre of England, so what might seem normal kit for those in Florida, or say California isn't really what we'd keep to hand usually, but i'm kinda thinking that its better to be ready, it will be a normal day, but one day something will happen

I live in the land of hurricanes so I always have plenty of supplies at hand in case something happens unexpectedly. As I've been without power for as long as a month before it would be ignorant not to be prepared for an emergency situation. I am not doing anything special to prepare for the 21st though.

Living in a rural area, with sometimes inclement weather, and many animals to take care of. I'm always prepared for some interruption in getting supplies. It just makes sense to me. I've been snowed-in up to 2 weeks up here before.

As to any extra preps for Dec 21st....naaaaaa...it's just another day.

A little but I went to scouts as a kid for a week so I have to be prepared.
Extra food etc but I go camping alot so I have quite a lot of gear already.
But nothing will happen I'm 99% sure of that.

It is slightly amusing to me that folks assume the world will end in some grand catastrophe.

The world will not end, but our species may. We won't go out in some dramatic sci-fi channel fashion. It will be more like blowing out a candle. Now you're here, then you're not. One can do as much or as little preparation as they want... in the end it will not matter what you've managed to stock pile. It only matters what you do in this life, not what you have.

Not even the Mayans believe anything is in store for us.. the Mayan calendar has no end, and the Mayans have even referenced dates beyond this point... from the Mayan perspective, it's complete nonsense.

As for other possibilities... I seriously doubt it, I think people got started with the Mayan calendar and then went looking for other things to be afraid of, or to make money on by creating tv specials, movies and books..

With that said... there's no way to prepare for the unknown as was earlier stated.. what if the end means a huge comet that obliterates the planet? .. my survival bunker won't do me much good, nor will my stash of beef jerky .. What if it's the biblical end of days? .. well my atheism would be proven wrong for one, and I doubt my bunker or jerky is going to help me then either.

When the end comes, I will go out calmly.. whether it be because I died from old age, or because the apocalypse decided to be more than disaster porn for people.

The things you can do to prepare are what you should always be doing to prepare for any emergency.. have emergency kits, some food supplies, some water supplies.. but things don't last forever, so you need to keep your stash updated... emergencies can happen at anytime.. 2012, 4012.. or anytime between, that's good good sense.

I'm just interested to see what others feel, i don't think anything will come of it, but also dont want to be caught out by anything that may or could occur, like i said emergency kit isnt the norm to have over here.

Yeah. I got my bread maker working double time just in case we lose power. Also scoping out the trees in my neighborhood that I can cut down and burn.

Not really, I live in So Cali, so I have to be ready for "the big one" anyway. My neighbor, who I would not think would think twice about that date, says he thinks there will be earthquakes all over the place do to the alignment with the galactic equator. I mean it is a significant date, as this only happens every 25,772 years, but I do not think we are in for anything, but Holiday traffic on the freeways.
