By the moonlight weary
And the dreams which make me leery
Showed unto me on a night so dreary
A cold hand. Reaching forth for my heart
And into his bony hand he did take it.
“Please, please, have mercy, do not break it.”
The winds set in motion
Shaking, shifting, like an ocean.
My body then a hollow boat
Set at sea to sink or float. He then wrote
Upon my heart with pointed claw
A message inscribed; ‘twas a law.
Shine forth light upon this night
And take from me my dearest sight
“Forget it not”, I did say in excite.
All around the world had shifted
There I sat, soul afflicted.
The air itself like an egg cracked.
The spirit’s hand begun to break
And up his arm the lines did make
A showing of my memory bank. I did take
From it a most wonderful view;
My memories of good, not a few
It did show; just me and you.
My love, I cried aloud
“Take my heart!” I did shout,
“But give me my love, now!”
The hand showed forth my
Heart. Written was every sigh
And the words, “you shall not lie”.
