Not sure if this has been posted but I just came across it on the local news.. They are saying the epicentre was roughly 600km from Darwin, no Tsunami warning has been issued in the Northern Territory but I'm not sure about Indonesia or any other surrounding countries/Islands..

Large earthquake, but it is rather deep.

Isn't this the second 7+ mag earthquake in the last week or two?

Edit: Yeah the last was a 7.3 off of Honshu, Japan only 3 days ago. 07Dec2012 7.3mag

Its the first one I've heard of over here but I haven't really been keeping an eye on them either. Being Indonesia though, its highly likely that another may of occured at some stage last week.

Why are earthquakes lately 7.3? That seems pretty common, they had one in Japan like that.

Yeah that was no where near an antipode. I should be ashamed at my knowledge of geography. But we should watch the antipodes just to see if any activity occurs there.

I wonder why a lot of these strong quakes seem to happen around the same time of day?
