Wow, talk about lying....
The chart does not show food stamp use went up 1.44 million in just one month....
WTF. Did people even check the chart, or do you hate Obama so much you'll perpetuate lies?

They only show data up to September.
number on food stamps was 47,710,324. The month before that was 47,102,765. That's 600 thousand, not 1.44 million.

It rose 1.44 million since last October, where it was 46,236,164.

That's ONE YEAR, not one month.

Learn to math.

48 million people homeless and hungry is worse.

48 million people resorting to theft, robbing you out of desperation or worse, losing it and killing people because his kids are starving at home and he has no way of feeding them.

compassion goes a long way.

there are good people on food stamps, despite what mitt ronmey and other so called "compassionate" conservatives say.

why are there 48 million people on food stamps. well ask the 1% and the job "creators". they know it all.

Obama's legacy. Screw up the economy so badly that the same people that got screwed over by the government now have to rely on the government in order to survive.

C'mon, everyone knows the economy collapsed under Bush,
Obama has had to salvage one of the worst financial collapses in history. The collapse happened under Bush....but don't let the facts get in the way.

If you want to say the economy hasn't improved enough these past 4 years that's different....but to say Obama screwed up the economy is straight up ignorant.

I guess I just sit here puzzled as always. How can anyone even qualify?

That is an interesting question. In Florida you can own a house and drive an $8500 automobile and still collect food stamps. I know several people that do not own either a house or an automobile that have never been arrested and have incomes below the official poverty line, yet they were denied food stamps because they were honest about having a small savings for an emergency or for that house or vehicle that the food stamp recipient was able to afford.

If food stamps are really a win win situation for all parties then there should be a simple automatic eligibility based on verified income. The truth must be that the government hopes people won't apply for food stamps because the cost of the program is a drag on the economy? Only the really poor people get left out unfortunately.

They really do. They are proud that 48 million people are on food stamps. They measure success by how many are on welfare rather than how many are not.

That's because it is a form of power. If you cripple the independence of people and make them dependent on you, you hold power over them.

It's so simple that it's brilliant.

the same could be said of corporations no? (even more so of places like walmart where they control your wages and the products you purchase with said wages)

you depend on them for a wage right? which you use to purchase things that allow you to live your life
its not like you can just go out and settle on a piece of land and start farming fishing or logging
and most business would require a considerable amount of start up money and the few things that could produce a profit currently and in the foreseeable future would become over saturated if more people entered the market
its a simple matter of mathematics as the world becomes more technologically advanced our rates of production increase you are going to have less need for employees yet the population will continue to grow
so the options become cull the population and postpone the inevitable or start looking at economics in a much different way

It's nothing to be proud of. Get a Fishing pole or a gun and put food on the table. I eat more wild game and MREs than grocery store food.

I do think most people enjoy being dependent and nearly destitute, that is not a very pleasant
way to exist.

You guys have a poor view of your fellow Americans

Where I live, there are no fish or wild game for 35 miles in every direction.

I never said it was something to be proud of.

Congratulations, you have figured out the basic concept of life and civilization. Scarcity.

The Earth cannot naturally support this many people. I promise, keep putting people on food stamps, you're still going to die. A collapse is inevitable.

Good thing we have our 400 acres.
___

We do not have the money, resources, policies, or technology to defy nature.

its not though the planet can still support much more people the problems arise when you have systems that allow resources to be concentrated in some areas while being entirely removed from others
even with this system you are seeing a growing population which should be evidence enough there are plenty of resources its simply a matter of distribution.... and i hardly think you could argue that work receives fair pay when one man making poor decisions (for an international bank or corporation) but with good connections makes hundreds of millions while another makes pennies breaking his back growing crops or mining (etc) halfway across the world

and if you think all thats in our nature is greed instead of things like common sense that a healthy individual is a healthy collective and that cooperation is productive you are sadly mistaken

My county could devour all the game and fish in half a day...

I still don't think you have scarcity figured out. Scarcity is not a philosophy, it's a fact. If you stop spoon feeding people and let them support themselves, nature will kill off a lot of people.

We are going against nature, but there is only so long you can continue to do so.

Probably a long time.

How long do you think most urban folk would hold out if there were no grocery stores?

so you are somehow under the shortsighted assumption that if there were no grocery stores people would not purchase or procure firearms in anyway possible and hunt for themselves? hah!
yeah the only reason you are able to hunt is because others do not.... if you had 317 million americans trying to put food on the table by hunting and fishing the populations of those animals would be depleted entirely within a month
and if it came to it dont be shocked to learn someone would put a bullet in you to take what you have to survive.... are you fool enough to believe you can defy the world if things really got bad?

I actually support food stamp spending. It's one of the few government programs that creates jobs at the local level. Grocery stores need more employees to handle the increased customers. Increased demand for food products creates more jobs in shipping and and production. So, forth.

So, that increase in food stamp use means a growing economy unlike other government spending.

So possibly explain (if you would) how the food stamp system actually pays the producers, distributors and markets who grow, move and supply goods. Are these vouchers of some sort that the federal government then pays in cash to those folks? Right? The dollar is our official currency, and that currency is what our economical trade is based on, where is the transformation? And why create a whole new currency? 48 million people using an alternative currency cant really be a good thing right?
