What do you think of the show?

I loved Big Bang Theory.

The characters were adorable.
I just wanted to bring Leonard home and cuddle him like a teddy bear.
Penny was worldly and sassy but still nice.
Bernadette and Howard together .. opposites attracting.
Sheldons war with Wil Wheaton turned to best buds.
Even Captain Sweatpants at the comic book store is fun.
The plots were cute. None of the 2 1/2 Men extreme smut had creeped over.

But this past week, Amy faked being sick to get Sheldons attention.
When Sheldon found out .. he spanked Amy. :shk:
1 - Sheldon is germ phobic and wouldn't have been there.
2 - Sheldon wouldn't raise his hand to anyone.

Just seeing Sheldon raise his hand in a violent gesture ... YIKES!

It totally turned me OFF. I can't explain it. I did so love the show.
Now .. It's like Chuck Lorre jumped the shark with Big Bang and
now I've got a bad taste in my mouth from watching the episode this week.
It's like I'm afraid to watch next week or they may really screw up a show I've
liked up until this point.

Is it just me ... or anyone else out there think the spanking thing was 'off'??

I thought it was hilarious, as I'm sure most of the fans thought as well.

I doubt I speak for myself, but I believe people are wanting to see Sheldon and Amy get closer. These subtle acts of comedy are just the thing.

I wouldn't think anything of it

I've not seen that episode but I kind of appreciate your fears. I'm sure this is a one off. I assume you've seen every episode? Do you know if sheldons mum used to spank him when he was naughty?

Thanks for the spoiler alert....I haven't seen it yet.
I'm kidding, I'm not really upset about it.

Spankings aren't that bad. although it does sound a little weird. Raising a hand in anger to a women even a spank isn't nice. So I see why you're upset.

That's probably what the writer's were going for with it.

Glad we're on the same wavelength with that one.

i thought it was funny but still a little awkward. on one hand it makes sense that sheldon would consider spanking as a punishment. its in line with his naive childish side. but on the other hand they could have gone a million other ways.

It was good, definitely had it's moments. But... the audience... sometimes it's just...

Sheldon: words
LOLOLOL
Lenard: more words
ROFLAHAHA
Sheldon: Bazinga.
HAHAHLOLOLOO
Penny: Look at me, I'm trendy.
LOOOROFL

My favourite moment was probably the Eye of the Tiger scenes with Raj and Sheldon. Dunno, it just really cracks me up.

Only watched up to the end of the 3rd season though, when Penny slept with Raj.

I didn't see it from your angle.

What I saw was them, like so many shows today, breaking the taboo of showing sexual deviousness on prime time tv. It's not that I personally see fault in “sexual miscreants” – it's just that I don't care to watch it on what should be family programing. I guess family programing is becoming a thing of the past – unless your family is The Aristocrats.

This would be the one entertainment that hubby and I agree on.
It's simply the perfect show that combines humor with intelligence.
Hubby has a strong sense of humor and loves to watch funny stuff...I on the other hand have zero sense of humor and would rather a documentary.
This show we can watch together and I can laugh at Sheldon's "scientific" sense of wit...whilst hubby can relate to the other characters.
Win- Win.

I never liked Amy to begin with. She's the worst character introduced to the show.
Giving Sheldon a girlfriend was a stupid idea.

The episode was average, actually most of the episodes that Amy appear are average. She spoils all the fun.

You have to understand that Sheldon was brought up in a strict religion family and his mom believe din spanking or something similar, it was one of the episode when his mom visit.

If the show stays the same, it would lose interest, all shows goes thru these.

Sorry... but what's a hubby? Sounds like something my baby cousins would be playing with.

I've seen 'em all. Sheldon says that in Texas, spanking is how they take care of lies.
But that's with kids. He knows that's not how it's done with adults.

I'm disappointed. It's a cute show. It went off course IMHO.
I hope it doesn't go down the drain and turn into a 2 1/2 Men situation .. ugh.

Chuck Lorre overuses the canned laugh track.
It's his signature on a TV show .. IMHO

No canned laughter on the show, it's filmed in front of a live audience.

Then those people are being prompted A LOT. I saw an episode where the audience laughed at the set-up for a joke. Even though the joke was obvious, people don't normally laugh that hard at set-ups.

I read that they do both. They have the canned stuff AND the live audience reactions.
A real audience wouldn't laugh at every other line like that .. unless they all were
eating some 'funny brownies' before hand or something.
