BILLIONAIRES WARN HIGHER TAXES COULD PREVENT THEM FROM BUYING POLITICIANS

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Introducing a new wrinkle into the already fraught fiscal cliff showdown, a consortium of billionaires today warned that if their taxes are raised they will no longer have enough money to buy politicians.

The group, led by casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson, commissioned a new study showing that the cost of an average politician has soared exponentially over the past decade.

While the American family has seen increases in the cost of food, health care and education, Mr. Adelson says, “those costs don’t compare with the cost of buying a politician, which has gone through the roof.”

So you would support stealing money from an ATM machine but not raising taxes?

This attempt to put words in my mouth is patently offensive and typical entitlement class tactics.

That's the real leech and then take our tax money for $500 trillion TARP from the government, oh Government handouts are good only for that taker class at the 1% they are entitled to your money and if you don't buy their gargbage or invest with their banks they'll make sure you pay for it through your tax money, and still offer no credit nor jobs and still call us the lazy Americans...WTF ?!??! Why don't you go tell this to someone defending your sorry A** in Iraq that they're a worthless taker and I'll laugh as she or he kicks your sorry stupid A$$.

There are just as many wealthy on the left, and they are just as hypocritical and greedy as those on the right. Instead of calling this "maker vs. taker", I'll call it "producer vs. recipient".

Rush Limbaugh may be a blowhard, but he is correct about "taxing the rich" to pay for unions that incentivize maintaining a failing system.
How is promoting the most tired propaganda tactic of all, class warfare, "waking up". I'd say it is just very backward revisiting of a tyrannical system justifying its existence with "the people" by demonizing the successful.
It's as old as human civilization, and has always produced the same results.
We'll see how successful CA is. I'd say it will be one of the first states to fall into riots and civil unrest. Maybe following the union controlled upper midwest. More taxes to answer problems of unsustainability= quick and potentially violent collapse

LOL. They have the first balanced budget again in a decade. CA is getting better...not worse.

...

Here's my answer: If I knew that the ATM camera didn't see me, and no one else saw me, then that money would be GONE BABY GONE. And I am someone you could trust. Seriously.

...

According to the story, it was destined for another ATM as replenishment. So it belonged to the bank.

...

if I knew with 100% certainty that I would get away with it, it would be tempting - and morally I think I could live with myself knowing that the money would be better serving my family's needs than lining the pockets of wealthy bankers.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

So I suppose "the words I put in your mouth" were the ones about you not wanting to raise taxes on the rich?

I don't know about Rush Limbaugh, but that was indeed a simplistic bit of propaganda with the old class warefare meme. Could have come right out of an East German school system during the cold war.

Asner was just naming the next Kulak class to get the uninformed along with the program.

well, the video has a point.

when you see a supposedly "broke" government come up with $700 billion instantly, many people were shocked.

since they've been saying cut medicare its to expensive, cut social security its to expensive etc.

then when they gave it to the banks and wall street, they paid themselves every bonus and penny owed to them.

that isn't made up, its fact and was reported quietly by the msm. and no one complained to loudly because everybody in america believes, whether rich or poor, you should get paid for the work you do.

but americans didn't want to believe that their bankers and their investors, other americans, are capable of such fraud and deceit. and allowed them to have their dessert after such a colossal feast.

the problem is, like the video, they just kept the money. they didn't reimburse homeowners, investors and everyone else that lost because of their outright scams and dishonesty.

they must have been laughing at every board room on wallstreet after the taxpayers gave them $700 billion. i bet some of them were ready to jump out of a window waiting for the fbi to raid their offices and arrest them all.

instead, they pulled the biggest fraud and heist in the history of economics and got a rewarded for it too.

that's why the say the biggest sucker of them all is the american taxpayer.

Yep...right after the 200 year long genocide of the Native American was more or less completed and the ragtag survivors shuffled onto concentration camps.

Fast forward to the present and what do we have?

A bunch of lazy, no-talent, incompetent people who were born into obscene wealth who simply do not deserve the wealth they have had the dumb luck to fall into. Something is TERRIBLY wrong with us when we are reluctant to tax Donald Trump, Paris Hilton, and the Koch Brothers...ALL OF WHOM are wealthy because mummy and daddy GAVE IT TO THEM while school children don't have books in their classrooms.

Half the population is broken and bitches about what their perceived entitlements are and who owes them what.

The government DOES owe the American Peasant quite a bit. In case you haven't been paying attention they only thing you have gotten back for your tax dollars since the mid-60's is a state of nearly perpetual warfare.

Don't like your current situation? Change it! No one owes you a squirt of piss in this life and if you think they do get used to disappointment.

They are...that's why so many Americans voted for candidates who ran on the campaign promise of taxing the lowest forms of life in our country...the garden-variety American Billionaire.

WOW... When you jump the shark you do it in spectacular fashion dont you? Go ahead and run to those same old tired worn out talking points.. blah blah.. American Indian..blah blah..genocide..blah blah.. greedy rich people... I feel a yawn coming on.

Pretty much everything. First they even start of with a Stalinesque characture of "the rich" clutching big money bags, taking all of the money to sit on, ignoring things like investment capital, ignoring things like we spend more per student than every other country rossieronline.usc.edu... , that perhaps a problem with our school system may just be retention of poor teachers, and really blaming everything on "the rich." No mention of spending more than we take in, no mention that the higher wage earners already pay more in income tax than the rest, no mention of many other things, just blaming everything from the pothole down the street to halatosis on "the rich." It was a propaganda piece right out of the old Soviet Union. Like I said, we need a new Kulak class and it is now the 1% (actually the bar was lowered a bit recently to the 2%.) You have to have a bogey man to blame to convince people to give TPTB more and more power.

Yeah like during the 90s when Clinton assumed office and the US went through economic collapse. Who in their right mind wants to live through that again?

To even debate this is a joke. When the top pays a higher percentage, everyone does better. When supply side economics are in high gear, ONLY THE WEALTHY THRIVE.
Jesus ppl. All we have to do is scrutinize the last 30 years. This is ridiculous at this point.
edit on 9-12-2012 by spinalremain because: (no reason given)

And this is why history repeats itself over and over and over. Because of ignorant philosophies based on the "last 30 years".
Geezuz, ppl. All we have to do is scrutinize history objectively over several centuries to see that easily mind controlled subjects like the above will always defend their own slavery. Taxation of the wealthy is not the issue so much as it is the idea that it really does any good. Unsustainable fiscal models are the issue. Government spending. And history has consistently proven that tax increases to support the failing system simply creates conditions to quicken the descent.

No one on my end supported supply side economics, which is just as progressive and Keynesian as what the lefties want. No society that supported turning its citizens into dependents will thrive. And even Keynesians are aware that raising taxes during hard economic times is completely destructive. This is not 30 years ago. Conditions are quite different.

What is "ridiculous" is believing that punishing success can do anything positive for society. If a community/society/government cannot maintain balance in its spending practices, it will fail. NO amount of taxes on the wealthy will come anywhere near to fixing the debt problem. Esp with a bloated economy like California. I think if you want to look to recent history, the failing socialist governments of Europe are much more indiciative of what is to come here.

LMAO. Well it sounds like they don't believe in "if it aint broke dont fix it". As the wealthy leave the state and the middle class pick up more slack, CA will continue to lead the charge in the downward spiral of backwards economic, social, and political momentum that is currently infecting the nation.

But that is not who they are going after with all of this rhetoric is it? 250K a year (the evil 2% as defined by the push for higher taxes on the "wealthy") is nowhere near Ed Asner levels. I think the American people are falling for a bait & switch and George Soros is going to go laughing all of the way to the bank.

Fomenting class warfare. Works everytime.

Think Asner is one of the rich ones who won't mind paying more? Why, he's so... so right, he probably voluntarily pays his "fair share" just because it's the right thing to do. I'll bet he writes and extra million every year to the government. As an example, you know. An example for what's right and fair.

Net worth for households and non-profit groups increased by $1.72 trillion from July through September, or 2.7 percent from the previous three months, to $64.8 trillion, the Federal Reserve said today from Washington in its flow of funds report.

www.bloomberg.com...

Of course 65 trillion is nothing to sneeze at but on damn those evil rich still does not include the wealth owed to SS, and medicare.,

but hey who cares "get your pound of flesh"
