Some more "openness" for Op to ignore......

According to the State Department's 2011 report on trafficking in persons, "the Netherlands is primarily a source, destination, and transit country for men, women, and children subjected to sex trafficking."

Dutch Child Sex Ring -- Where's the Justice?

Rape victims :

Netherlands 0.8% Ranked 7th. 100% more than United States
US 0.4% Ranked 13th.

Crime stats: Netherlands vs United States
Anyone can point out another Countries flaws. Trying to stigmatize "Hard-Core Christian Right Conservatives"?

Preposterous.

Apparently...one don't need no kinda proper grammer-talk no way at all neither.

He was in the navy , he has "seen" things , he needs no proof!

That was intentional, to indicate attitude in my writing. Along the lines of the intentional sarcasm in your response. Or should I devote a post to the grammatical corrections necessary in your response? Would that qualify me as a Grammar Nazi?

Do not try to disqualify my rebuttal to your poor scientific method by pointing out supposed grammatical errors. It is silly and unbecoming.

Just to avoid any further confusion, I will be certain to post only in the Queen's English henceforth.

Perhaps, but I don't need religion to tell me that promoting teenage sex is piss poor parenting. It is irresponsible and disgusting...and I don't care what a YouTube video says about the Netherlands and their teenage sex culture.

Incorrect. Data suggests that it's far healthier and more responsible.

Oh...and the data doesn't come from "youtube"...that's just the method of broadcast. The data comes from UNICEF.

Indeed.

That is what i just dont get from people in here.

It shows that less kids actually have sex, get pregnant and have abortions. Things they are all rooting for but yet they reject it all , willingly throw the result in the bin just because it opens up the door of talking about sex openly.

yup , makes sense ....

edit on 9-12-2012 by Rubic0n because: (no reason given)

I know...it's crazy isn't it?

If you are REALLY against abortions...then you SHOULD be changing your views to model those mainstream Netherlands as opposed to going double-down on the failed policies being enacted in Mississippi. Period. Opinions are irrelevant...it's simply factual data that indicates the all fire and brimstone is having the REVERSE effect that is desired.

So what do they do?? Resort to a lot of feigned outrage, "shock", and just continue to deny the data that's right in front of them.

I guess we can all rest comfortable that the Right isn't going to be hiring more reliable pollsters next election, huh?

Hehe OK mate I understand ya.

Yeah the Dutch East India Company had a monopoly, by STATE sanction, on exploiting people and resources in Asia. If people only read some history of companies like this they would realise that capitalism and the state are one and the same (for those who think capitalism can be stateless).

That's real nice.

Have you ever walked the streets of Amsterdam?
If you have then you would know that children are posted up in store front windows for sale. Legally. Or at least tolerated.

If it were illegal, then they wouldn't be there for everyone to see. now would they?
If you think i'am lying, then go look for yourself.

I've spent some time in Amsterdam, and walked through the red light district many times. Prostitutes are stacked up in windows rooms up to three stories high. There are more than 3000 of them. But never did I see any that were seemed underage. Child Prostitution is not tolerated anywhere in Europe and if you suspected that a certain girl was underage maybe instead of walking past thinking 'I guess that's just how it's done in Europe' possibly you should have actually gone to the authorities...

If what you say is then true then you may have just saved her life. But you didn’t… I’m sorry I don’t believe you. The red light district is Amsterdam’s most lucrative tourist precinct and they would not want it to be tarnished with claims of child prostitution. Amsterdam does attract its share of shady characters simply because they flock in from from less liberal countries, and with this comes things like child prostitution rings etc. But as a societal norm it is no more accepted than anywhere else in the developed world.

totaly false

Prostitution is legal in the Netherlands, and has been defined as a form of work. 18 is the minimum age to work in the sex industry.
www.uri.edu...

Many states and countries in the world, consider 18 year old's, Not adults.

Sure. Many do.

...just not the United States nor the Netherlands.

So...what's the problem? LOL.

We take our 18 yr old kids and use them for cannon fodder for christs sake.

While i don't disagree that one can look at the real statistics and draw
a corollary to it actually being correct that abstinence and the religious
way of dealing with sexuality is far less effective than more open
and accepting views which teach responsibility and that sexuality
is a natural and perfectly normal thing for teens to explore, this
data is so far only a correlation, more study is still needed before
one could say with certainty.

Also statistics are a tough one for people to accept as they are
used improperly time and again, hence why everyone is skeptical
of their use now days. while it is a useful field and if used properly
does very well in indicating things, people will not accept that they
are harming their children based on those alone.

This really does come down to people being honest about all this,
to lie about sexuality is as bad if not worse than not even explaining
it which is the rout my christian parents went, my father tried to
wait until i was 18 to even have a discussion about it and like most
teenagers i had already experienced it for myself, and that's what
this all comes down to, kids are human beings as well, as much
as we want to believe we actually have some kind of control over them,
we do not, they will do these things, whether you want to believe that
is of no consequence, they will do them, hence why being prudent
and not burying your head in the sand is the proper way to deal with it.

It all really comes down to this issue where in religions in the US think
abstinence is actually a reality when whats really going on is teenagers
who have no idea or understanding about what they are doing simply
experimenting with their sexuality and not knowing how to protect
themselves because of abstinence, religions simply think that kids
will say no all the time, most of us having been teenagers know very
well that those feelings aren't so easy to just ignore. that's why
we must teach our children to be responsible and not just to
pretend this isn't actually a problem in the real world.

i guess it comes down to abstinence being a complete failure, it does
not often accomplish what it is meant to and very very often gets you
exactly the opposite of what it was intended to do, oh and sex ed in
a religious school is pathetic, completely useless class, i had it and
did not learn a single thing about sexuality, i learned about reproduction
which should have very well been in biology. sexuality is real, whether or
not you find it shameful is another problem all together, but please
don't make you kids ashamed of their sexuality, it took me a very
long time to be comfortable with my sexuality because of my conservative
upbringing.

YES, I can!! It is called reading the ENTIRE report and then evaluating ALL the data. Step two involves going into the interpretation of the data without a bias. There are states that are typically very liberal and teach exhaustive sex education in school that are at the top of the teenage abortion chart. I feel like I am beating a dead horse or talking to a wall, but religion, at best, is only ONE of MANY determining factors in these results.

And this is exactly the problem that is being pointed out. But apparently "concerned" parents here in the U.S do not want to hear about it and rather go on having as many children have sex, pregnancies and abortions as they are having now.

Christians give the most.

According to forbe 60% of ALL charity in the US is Christian based. I gave 15% of my measly money last year to by a farm in Zambia to a family of 6. What have you done?

Id like to challange any Christian basher on here to just meet my level of commitment to help those in need.

Just Google what some of these /spit horrible Christians do, even just around your neighborhood. When did you break bread with a mother who has aids?

When did you give blood?

Stop posting about these aweful Christians and get out there and prove you love the down and out more. When you do that i will bow to what ever it is you do. Until that day comes I will tell the world Jesus is the light and the life.

Well...OK...but that has nothing to do with THIS thread.

THIS thread is about how it's completely counter-productive to try to abolish abortion and teenage sex if you ACTUALLY want to reduce teenage pregnancy and abortion.

The results are not about religion , religion is a factor because of its manners in the approach but still just 1 factor in the argument and a valid one as a whole i am sorry to say. But even outside of religion the whole of the U.S is afraid of talking and educating and acting more openly about sex. Even if it helps fight the problems at hand (like baby killing)

But alas, after you tried to claim that child prostitution is legal over there i cannot take anything you say seriously over anymore

Not saying you're completely wrong Sonny, but rape and paedophilia are not necessarily synonymous and if you look at any of the other crime stats the US fares far worse.

Also a paedophile ring which constitutes only 13 people in the Netherlands (and 8 in the US) really doesn’t prove anything at all.

The number of people infected with STDs, sexually transmitted diseases, has been increasing slightly but consistently for several years. The Sexual Health Thermometer published by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) shows that 113,00 people had themselves tested for STDs in 2011, an increase of eight percent compared to the year before. One or more STDs were diagnosed in about 14 percent of the people tested, a slight increase over earlier years.

RIVM says the number of people infected with chlamydia has been high for several years. Chlamydia accounts for 11 percent of all STD infections. Among young heterosexuals the infection rate is even as high as 15 percent. The number of gonorrhoea infections has been increasing in the past few years. In the past, the disease was primarily diagnosed among gay men, but now is increasingly found among heterosexual people. Most of the people who come to the regional health centres for testing are young people up to the age of 25 (44 percent) and men who have had sex with other men (20 percent).

RIVM says that each year shows an increase in the number of STDs diagnosed, mainly because high-risk groups are actively being encouraged to get themselves tested. The need for these educational campaigns is clear from the fact that 64 percent of those who had themselves tested said they did not use a condom during their most recent sexual encounter.

STDs on the rise in Netherlands

Have to love teen sleepovers........

No offense to anyone from the Netherlands.

LOL. Sorry dude...1:4 teen girls in the US have at least one STD. Turns out...the Netherlands are more responsible in that department too.

I do dare ask, what person in power has influenced you or forced you to join a certain religion? Many have expressed their beliefs, but I have yet to run across one that has forced me........
