Another month is finished and although I feel diminished
I log back in to ATS and check my favourite forum
It is of course ‘Short Stories’ with its tale’s of death and glory
And poignant allegories written with skill and deft decorum

For this months competition I do plan a great addition
You can call it grand ambition but I want everybody clapping

21st December’s come and gone. What do you think has happened?

Are you alive and growing old seeing the results (if any) unfold?
Have we all 'ascended' and sit amongst the Galactic Federation?
Has Jesus kicked some atheist butt? Is the Earth now gone kaput?
Lying scattered through the Kuiper Belt after a fiery last summation.

It can be funny, it can be sad, it can be indifferent or make me glad.
Let imagination drip from your fingertips but let me clarify
Although we’re writing fiction with imaginative depictions
There is still one last constriction for all T&Cs apply

An apocalyptic thread where we all just end up dead?
Or should I go with what I know – the usual New Age stock?
A zombie filled endeavor with an ending very clever…
But the problem is however I’ve got god damned writer’s block!

And so my mind does wander about what’s really over yonder
And through all the human squander can we really carry on
As if we actually rule the Earth, what’s humanity’s networth?
Increasing girths and teen childbirths something’s very very wrong

Yet we all seem to pretend as if these problems will amend
We can't seem to comprehend that things are bad and getting worse
And we keep painting o’er the cracks though society’s near collapse
And through empathetic lapse our world grows evermore perverse…

A small tug upon my sleeve does my heavy thoughts relieve
And I look around to see deep brown eyes stare lovingly my way
It is my youngest daughter; and for everything I’ve taught her
Such innocence cannot survive unless we change our ways

I guess what I’m really saying is screw the fricking Mayans,
And screw all those just praying for the planet’s slow demise
If it did all end tomorrow in apocalyptic sorrow,
No time left now to borrow, well I wouldn’t be surprised…

----------------------------

And then I realize in shock the cause of my mental block
And why my mind seems so ad hoc for my thoughts still haven’t budged.
How can I just sit here and type, staying up so late at night
What does one really write for a competition which may never be judged…

I am literally amazed of the talent this forum harbours !

That was a great piece and I am afraid of what you could write when not under a writer's block !!!!

S&F for certain !
