The easy solution of putting the screws would be to draft up a two or three page summary, allowing a 5% tax increase to those making above $500K but have a laundry list of spending strong spending cuts to scared cows like EPA, Dept of Ed, DoE, Dept of Parks and Wildlife and the big one Obamacare itself as a 4 year moratorium on funding and enforcement in order to fully study the fiscal and economic impact of implementation. Heck he could even add a provision that a full budget has to be approved and signed into law by April 1, 2013 or it is back over the fiscal cliff with immediate government shutdown procedures.

Then dare Obama to utter a word about how Boehner is playing politics by threatening to call the House to Holiday Recess. Like you said, many ways to play it but neither are doing anything but talking smack and holding fast.

Boehner is in hot water with his fellow republicans. Obama is again blaming the republicans for holding up the deal...he hasn't proposed anything different than he did months ago.
Obama thinks that he has an open ticket to raise taxes on america.
250 K should not be upper class.
As pointed out in many published articles...the democrats refuse to cut spending and want more stimulus money.

Yep, those private farmers who own multiple acres of land (worth millions) on which to grow crops upon and feed us are going to get what's coming to them, ain't they? /Sarc off

It is not going to stop at the 2% ( when did that happen? It use to be the 1% )

By the time this Administration exits, we will all be paying higher rates.

All of us.

There you have it, folks. Against his corporate handlers' wishes, Boehner inches closer to reality. Taxes MUST go up for the top 2%ers. Let the robe-tearing and gnashing of teeth begin, conservative ats'ers!

Via CNN.COM

From the article:

"Washington (CNN) -- Taxes on the wealthy are going up, House Speaker John Boehner conceded Wednesday in challenging President Barack Obama to sit down with him to hammer out a deal for avoiding the fiscal cliff.

Obama, however, continued to insist on Republicans first ensuring no tax hike for anyone but the top 2% of Americans as a first step toward a broader agreement on tackling the nation's chronic federal deficits and debt. (...)"

How is 250K a year "ultra wealthy?" 250K a year is doctors, lawyers, small business owners, skilled tradesmen, moderately successful farmers, artists, professors, engineers, IT guys, fishing boat captains, and so forth. You've bit off on the class warfare bait and switch. Congrats!

Since it is Christmas, I'll just say Jesus Christ people.

I am not mad at rich people but I am not ignorant to their ways either.

1) The rich pay less tax today. Write-offs, accountants that leverage loop holes on their behalf, fake charities, etc;
2) They expense a great portion of money spent as "business travel", meals, etc; This is no different that a waiter lying about the tips they made.
3) etc, ad nauseum

The only to way to make everyone pay the same tax is to have a flat tax, no exceptions.

why is everyone always defending the caste that can afford to defend themselves?

The divided poor and middle class bicker while these people continue to steal the "civilized world".

I don't have a problem with a flat tax. A single, flat tax rate, no exemptions, no exeptions, no deductions. Everybody pays something, everybody has skin in the game, and we can do away with thousands upon thousands of pages of the tax code.

Problem is, that would force a lot of people to give up on the concept of using the tax code as a means of social engineering and behavior modification. Will enough people be willing to support that? I dunno, but they should.
