Oh, gosh, yah. Ya know, hun, the Olafsons invited us for waffles. Yah.

OK, everything I know about this, I learned from the movie Fargo - so I could be off.

Though I did manage a Northern Tool and Equipment store for a few years and their headquarters are there - so I did hear the accent a lot. You might suspect from my ATS'ing... Human resources tended to call me for "coaching" and "verification of actual events" kinda often.

Ha, you're not too far off the mark. Although, it's kind of hard to tell because a lot of them Minnesotans know when you're from out of state and kind of play up their Minnesotan stereotypes.

That's why it's essential to learn their native tongue and mannerisms--that way you can observe them naturally and undisturbed.

I got good enough to fool a few people into thinking I wasn't a tourist--although wearing my hockey jersey kind of gave it away ha

I think my farther-in-law at the time(chuckles) use to say 'uffda meg" I think.
It was German ,I think

Alot of those accents originate from europe.
I am born and raised confederate country South Carolina boy.
Had to move to Iowa when I was just a teen and try to learn a new language,in my book.
Those Iowa girls did take a liking to my southern draw at the time,but those Iowa boys didn't care for it to much.

BTW,Iowa borders Minnesota,and that is where the other side of my family resides.

I think it's funny that your ex-father-in-law used to say that to you all the time and you didn't know what it meant haha.

Although, I'm sure the tone and attitude told you enough
