In response to a similar thread raising awareness to Appalachian accents www.abovetopsecret.com... I have decided to help others learn the intricacies and nuances of Minnesotan! If you don't speak Minnesotan, Minnesotans will know it right away and single you out! You can save yourself a lot of hassle doncha know if you just learn the basics of Minnesotan.

By the way, I am not from Minnesota--but my many vacations there have forced me to learn all about "uffda!" you betcha!

This is in the jokes forum by the way. That means you accepted the risk of being exposed to exaggeration and satire. It really is a beautiful and mellow place--this video is 100% accurate though!

It is very true: If someone offers you something, you better refuse it a couple of times before accepting it haha..and you better wave to every driver and pedestrian you pass on the road.

'Uffda"
What the heck does that mean?

It's just a generic exclamation similar to your "OMG!"
uff da: A multi use exclaimation. Comes from immigrants from Scandinavia during the early part of the 20th century. If you are surprised you say "Uff da", if you are disgusted you say "Uff da", over worked? "Uff da"

www.urbandictionary.com...

It's pretty much used in any situation where words fail haha.

Makes sense. It would be followed with american curse words I recognize.
Sometimes I thought I was 'uffda",but now I know I was!
It's just the first time in 27 years I have seen it referenced.

A quick trip to wikipedia will show you just how many alternate spellings of 'uffda' are accepted

Uff da (sometimes also spelled huffda, uff-da, uffda, uff-dah, oofda, ufda, ufdah, oofta, uf daa, or ufta)

I think that pretty much sums up Uffda.

Yes, I am aware it is an exaggerated stereotype. That's why I put it in the "jokes" forum. I still found it accurate to some degree. In fact, I think that's pretty much the definition of satire right there!

exaggeration + hint of truth = satirical joke.
