2012 Forum

It's December 2nd today.

In a few short weeks the world will either end or I will get a new rifle for Christmas.

In the unlikely event that the world doesn't come to a screeching, unfathomable, and horrific end, What will ATS do with the forum and it's contents?

I think you missed both the humor and the point of my post. Perhaps you misread?

The point, which is to ask "what will happen to the 2012 forum in 2013?"

Something I think many would like an answer to.

I think once 2012 comes and goes... if nothing happens.... the forum will lose all interest and after a couple weeks, I doubt people would miss it if it was deleted, or locked.

I say a simple name change...Apocalypse Conspiracies. Because 2012 will most assuredly not be the last conspiracy to include an end of days scenario.

This isn't official,but it could be sold on E-bay.

My guess is it will remain, and perhaps take on a new name to encompass any doomsday related topics, not just 2012 related discussion. Nice thinking Uberl33t, or perhaps Apocalyptic Theories?

I rather hope ATS will maintain it in archive if nothing else. It's a valuable snapshot for the future in looking back on the attitudes and actual concerns/thoughts of this period vs. what people in the future will surely claim were our thoughts and concerns in hindsight.

I'd personally love to have a similar snapshot with thousands upon thousands of people contributing over time in getting a feel for the mood and general tone of the times in ..say...1938-1940. It would be priceless to understanding the times which followed.

So, I think that given the cut off date that is built right into the topic, it's a perfect one to save and encapsulate as a little container of the life and times of the ...more concerned...folks during this period.

soz im in brain fart mood, my guess is they will close the thread or they should make all the doomers eat there word's(even if i have been active in that thread) then there will be a super solar flare 2013 thread.

wouldn't suprise me the way this sight is selling out. i know its a family freindly site but i see more and more crack down on "free speech" or deny ingnorance,i hope i dont get warned or anything its not meant to be a putdown of the site,just exercising my right to an opinon

I got an idea. Create a 2012 subsection in the hoax area, and move them all there. Like an archive type deal

Doom 'n Gloomers will just move the goal posts, and say that the Mayans miscalculated or the Gregorian calendar is off or something, so the real date is in 2013, 2014 or whatever fits.

Rename the forum the "Apocalypse Fail Forum" and allow people to continue to post their "soon to be fail" doomporn for as long as they like.

Yes, change of name is probably the most practical solution.
They can't junk the forum altogether, because the old threads have to be parked somewhere.

I propose "Dated Predictions", which has an ingenious double meaning;
"Dated" in the sense of being attached to a specific date.
"Dated" in the sense of being obsolete, out of fashion.
As each thread moves past the relevant "sell-by" date, it slips effortlessly from one meaning of "dated" to the other.

The CIA probably has at least a copy of the entire forum, what happens to the information after they don't care...me neither. But I would like to not see it at all.

I was think of something along that line too.

Bur Uberl33t's idea of an Apocalypse forum might work as well.

i nominate the name be changed to : " the chicken little hollering stump "

I'm going to claim the entire forum in a coup and claim it in the name of the Aztecs. I'm sure they had a prophecy worth discussing but they've always had to play second fiddle to those freaking Mayans...

Just wanted to chime in to say that if you do some research into Edgar Cayce, and the people who went to him for guidance, advice, or to have him channel for them, you can get a pretty decent snapshot of the concerns and thought of the people during that time as well.

It seemed there were similar concerns.

As far as the 2012 Forum, I think what will probably happen is that, as elevatedone said, it could find its way onto eBay, but then martians will materialize and in fact, lay claim to it....however, when we attempt verbal contact with them, all they will say is "Ficus".
