My earlier comments were based on the banner contest. But it seems that they are still fairly accurate.

So it looks like Sublimecraft needs to be the person to launch the next contest?

You can tell Heff that the best part is knowing he sits and counts those little blue stars. That makes not winning rewarding enough in and of itself.

Would you rather it an art contest in general or an avatar contest?
And have Sublimecraft pick the theme??

I'm a fan of the avatar/background contest because it has defined dimensions and rules. But, others should certainly chime in on their preferences. I have enough fun as it is.

ETA: Yeah... Sublime should pick the theme

I had to go to urgent care this morning because my sides were splitting from laughter... 7 stitches on each side.

HA! No I'm a straight male. Funny concept none the less...

SAP... Regardless of the above, you could never get a 74

Why can't we do both? Have one avatar themed contest and one artwork themed contest?

We had a member, Starwise, join our ranks a little while back who was messing with concepts of digital art and came here for pointers. Why not throw in both to give people a better chance at it? I'd be willing to help out creating and judging to help you guys of course.

so, it would be a general art contest.....what are the image guidelines, in posts, if any?
We don't want HUGE images in posts

So, creators choice....on a theme to be determined???

I see nothing wrong with an image not to exceed 500px in either H or V dimension. But agree that huge images are just not appropriate.

I always find 640x480 will fit to a page without going over, so how about that size? It will also be more challenging to get a crisper image in a smaller space, as anyone who has done avatars before knows that size limitation can be both challenging and frustrating.

My take is we pretty much have the avatar thing going on here successfully, so why not expand it a little? Then if someone creates something cool in an image, it can be altered to fit an avatar size. It can also bring more awareness to this thread, and generate some cool new users and ideas.

The biggest problem is art is a very subjective thing. It may be you'll have to go by stars to determine a winner, rather than outright judging....

As a end user Could I suggest more than 1 Winner. Perhaps a popular winner awarded by stars. Then a panel of say three judges to award the judges award plus an award for the funniest entry.

I always prefer when their are multiple winners.

Just my thoughts as I wait to be amazed by sheer talent.

Well, if we're going to do general artwork rather than Backgrounds/Avatars (which is cool, and might attract more folks as you point out), then how about no restrictions on dimensions, but rather use the standard file size restriction from the ATS uploader...

Maximum File Size: 500kb

half a meg canvas to express yourself
