January Dawn's First Light

Hurtling through the stars filled space,
This spec of consciousness that remains,
I see the sun still burns and shines bright,
Upon the location that would have been Earth,
10 days ago.....

Accompanying me, remains and rock debris from mortal world,
A picture of a happy Kodak moment family floats nearby,
A fleeting close moment, and drifts light speed away.
Unreachable to me, as my human body had disintegrated,
10 days ago....

Mankind had failed in its quest for progress and evolution.
Selfishness, apathy, greed and differences unreconciled,
Hatred rampant, emotions unchecked, humanslayers unleashed,
Massive cries from innocents screamed for succor and was heard,
10 days ago....

A blinding instantaneous flash of light burst forth acrosss the world,
felt from nations to nations, hearts to hearts.
No pain, no time, all life destroyed within a single moment.
An act of mercy, the last gift of compassion, the final judgement,
10 days ago....

Back to dust, specs of atoms, we mankind return,
to the stars, to drift forever within the cosmos
With our ebbing mortal consciousness
regreting the chances of mortal life given since,
10 days ago...

I burst out of my dreams with salt water in my eyes.
A nightmare had I suffered, that seemed so real,
A warning of what is to come, if mankind failed,
Dumbfounded and helpless, hugging myself, tears fell,
10 days ago......
