San Bernardino Residents Told To 'Lock Their Doors,' 'Load Their Guns'

losangeles.cbslocal.com

Bernardino is under scrutiny for telling residents to “lock their doors and load their guns” during a city council meeting.

The official explained that because the city is bankrupt and slashing public safety budgets people will need to start protecting themselves.

City Attorney Jim Penman said he doesn’t regret what he said.

“You should say what you mean and mean what you say,” Penman said.

San Bernadino is just another example of where America is heading. Whole cities are lining up to go bankrupt while the corp heads are taking home millions in bonuses.

The jobs are not coming back

San Bernardino is an awful place to live. Gangs, Meth, ect. If I lived there I would already have bars on the doors and windows and sleep with a gun.

I wasn't trying to demean your thread. I read about this earlier today. It all has to do with the housing crash, stolen money. A lot of cities and municipalities are looking at the same thing. It is sad. Seriously though, it is a trashed area.

I feel bad for their residents - a situation like that in the most gun-control crazy state in the U.S. Load their guns? What guns? Only the criminals have those there.

I know that's an exaggeration, but they would be severely outgunned there, with the way California restricts people.

Yep coming to a city or town near you real soon! They are all broke every city town county school etc. they are living on credit just like the feds and continuing to increase their debt because they certainly can't pay it off. Not when you borrow more just to make the interest payments The principle increases exponentially...

san bernadino is an example of what america does abroad being done at home.

it is an example of when a government has completely lost it's morality, its sense of right and wrong and its humanity.

it is capitalism as practised by america at its finest and observed by a cuban revolutionary hero when he said:

"There is a great difference between free-enterprise development and revolutionary development. In one of them, wealth is concentrated in the hands of a fortunate few, the friends of the government, the best wheeler-dealers. In the other, wealth is the people’s patrimony"

this same cuban revolutionary said:

"This is not a matter of how many pounds of meat one might be able to eat, or how many times a year someone can go to the beach, or how many ornaments from abroad one might be able to buy with his current salary. What really matters is that the individual feels more complete, with much more internal richness and much more responsibility.

and he warned:

"The laws of capitalism, blind and invisible to the majority, act upon the individual without his thinking about it. He sees only the vastness of a seemingly infinite horizon before him. That is how it is painted by capitalist propagandists, who purport to draw a lesson from the example of Rockefeller—whether or not it is true—about the possibilities of success. The amount of poverty and suffering required for the emergence of a Rockefeller, and the amount of depravity that the accumulation of a fortune of such magnitude entails, are left out of the picture, and it is not always possible to make the people in general see this."

this was said over 40 years ago. so the decline of america can't be pointed to one act in history, but the accumulation of an history of criminal and immoral conduct, sabotaging and vilifying an economic system, that is fair in theory, but perverted by evil and greed by those in power.

It doesn't take bankruptcy to make it necessary to protect ourselves. We have had to do that all along. Don't forget that when seconds count the police will be there in minutes, if they get there at all. All the imminent bankruptcy of San Bernardino accomplished is to cause a long overdue outbreak of honesty from their city council.

If true, residents of San Bernardino are probably wondering why they should pay any taxes at all, if they're paying them that is.

No one should pay any taxes without representation... But no taxes is much better =)

It's a shame what this country is coming to. In my little town in Mississippi with a population a little over 12,000 residents our city has over spent the budget by $480,000 just this year alone, and we have nothing here for them to spend it on and nothing to show for it. Our city council is full of crooks but a good chunk about $200,000 was from the police dept. We have more active duty police than many towns, some triple the population and a whole lot more crime. I don't know what its being wasted on but I'm sure most goes straight into certain bank accounts because of the lack of oversight by anyone other than the criminals themselves.

When I was a teen I wanted to be a cop, and used to go on ride-alongs in San Bernardino- it is a rather dangerous place!!

But this sounds like one of those cases of someone exaggerating to get shock value, and then someone else making an exaggerated focus on it. Blowing things out of proportion.

I swear, everytime I go back to the US I am quickly over stimulated by the media and the people.... everything is blaring loud bright panic stricken BUY! MORE! ACT! FAST! NOW! YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!!!!!!

Within a couple of days I am a nervous wreck, thinking a good layer of fat to protect me and some antidepressants to take the curb off might be a good idea. Maybe Bi-Polar disorder is a normal product of current american culture...?

San Bernidino is broke because the govt spent more money than they had, that doesn't mean free people should not be allowed to have a free market place. San Bernidino is broke because of the Socialist policies they pushed which is spend, spend, spend. Just like your communist revolutionary heroes have done to every country or policy they have ever been involved with.

just stopped through there on a greyhound bus to las vegas... hopped off the bus to run to the nearest convenience store.. man.. what a WASTEland...

IIMO... the first places that will become complete wastelands.. are the ones that already are on their way there..
and the civic engineers know that..

the planned destruction of america is going to happen fraction by fraction .. detroit by detroit .. san bernardino by san bernardino...

in that order.

it is indeed representative of many cities but i think that's a good thing since we can all admit we're broke and move on to ways of fixing it. we may find some interesting things out that most never knew. i think one of the biggest is how no one needs cops to save them , not for safety, not for security. another would be worthless counsel members.
an armed society can take care of it's own security and safety without the millions of dollars a year spent in their salaries and the citizens being raped for traffic violations.

you see, gangs and thugs are nothing new, we have been dealing with them for all time and never have they had it easier than now. you start your own gang and it's called "our community" and it is run by "we the people"
and together you can take a devastated community and make it far better than it ever was before.

when people stick together and work together and begin to care about each other, then no amount of criminals or debt can stop them, perhaps we can come out of this with more instead of less after all, that's my hope.

I used to live in San Bernardino, this is not any different then it was before. Here a couple of examples of this wonderful place!

I used to work for a Bank and I was stopped at the gas station and apparently someone followed me from the bank and stopped me to try and talk me into starting a life of crime and cashing forged checks for them for a cut.

My close friend that lived in San Bernardio was found with his head blown off in the aquaduct.

I moved away from there years ago, and actually out of California. I can keep going with the stoires but I am pretty sure you get the point!
