The GOP got used to the Dems giving up before the negotiations even started, so of course they're shocked at having to deal with a bona fide negotiation initial proposal, that's like all other negotiation initial proposals on planet Earth.

Christ, the folks in that party needs to get over themselves, or grow up - or both. No grown-up ever expects to get what they ask for in the first round of a negotiation. You always start way below what you're willing to pay, and you let the other guy "beat you up" until you get to the price you're aiming for.

The only reason that Obama played stupid during his first term was to prove to the nation that he wasn't there to tear the country apart or impose radical policies. That was just spun as weakness and the bizarre Manchurian Candidate conspiracy foolishness continued anyway. This time, the GOP had best take this effort seriously, because the DNC really isn't concerned about this "fiscal cliff". They know that they can just let the tax breaks die their natural death, and then pass a middle income tax break on January 3rd, and get what they want anyway. The stimulus part of the plan is that same infrastructure jobs bill that's been sitting in the House queue for months now, and Harry Reid is going to shove "talking filibusters" procedural change down the throat of the Senate, which should shock everyone in both houses of Congress into a much different mindset by the time that tax break vote happens.

The GOP might want to get used to things being different during this 4 year span of time.

Government is the largest monopoly that exists in this country that puts Wall street to shame, to many will never see that.

The only reason this nation became a 1st world nation was because it had wall street, now those people in government claim wall street is the beast 666 and all that rubbish,

Fact the only money people are suppose to have in this country should only come from government via taxation of a minority to pay for the majority.

Every action take led us to this point the budget is proof in the pudding as well as that national deficit,.

Of course this makes sense from "the most transparent and ethical administration in history".

Wow, I hope enough states have balls for war. I want a state sponsored revolution. Seriously. Stop going around the constitution or it means war. We have enough ignoring of it; at some point, this has to stop. I'm afraid it's going to have to stop at the end of a barrel. Revolution.

Government is us. All of us. We hire it, and we fire it. Period. Wall St, doesn't give a damn about us, and the people who own Wall St. stopped hiding that fact years ago. Our Executive Branch leadership makes it clear that it wants to protect most of us from the very tiny minority that owns 90% of the wealth in this nation. To me, that sounds like it's worth looking into. If it's bullsh*t, then it'll be obvious quickly. So far, it's the Wall St. crew that's shown itself to be guilty of depraved indifference to the struggles of this nation's majority. I sure as hell am not going to pretend that those banksters and brokers have our best interests in mind. That leaves me with taking my chances on the other big hammer in town - the federal Executive Branch leadership.

It's one or the other, and that's what there is. You can spin it all into some sort of Les Miserables fantasy video game in your conspiracy-addled mind, but reality offers only one of two actual choices here. Either side with the Executive Branch leadership, or side with those trying to shut it down. Any other choice is the choice to pretend that you have another actual active choice.

That's quite an interpretation of that statement I made. Wrong, but still quite the interpretation. Considering the insanity that immediately launched as soon as Obama won the first term election, what would anyone expect of him, but for him to be very careful to not "scare" white folks with overt hardball politics as he came out of the gate. You can't seriously be surprised at that. Okay, maybe seriously you can, but you can't reasonably be surprised at his decision to softball during that first year of negotiations.

Anyone thinks government or those politicians give a damn about anyone?

Hell no they don't the only things they care about is a vote to keep their jobs.

You go ahead and believe whatever it is that makes you happy. I spent two hitches in the military and had a lot of dealing with GS types, and they worry about getting their work done just the same as all other employees in all other workcenters. You have no idea what a government worker thinks or cares about, and as far as politicians are concerned, they vote on bills and make speeches, but it's GS types - at the same desks year after year, and administration after administration - who run the government. The politicians just run the floor show, for the most part, although there are some serious and talented hardworking folks in their ranks as well. Good people exist at all levels of our government in spite of there being so many malignant predators trying to cripple whatever good can possibly come from all that money and effort being spent on keeping this nation up and running.

Of course I can not be surprised at a softball decision in the first year of negotiations. Just don't claim to be the most transparent administration in history, and it will make a little more sense when you do the exact opposite.

I am no fan of anyone in office right now, and think it is time for an overhaul, but I am tired of the Obama worship, seriously.

Charles, I'm going to give you the benefit of a doubt here that this is the most humorous use of sarcasm ever on ATS.

Hopefully you don't really think that after what you have seen of Barry's "leadership" ability that he would be involved in this at all. The Vacationer-in-Chief can do two things well, shift blame (well ok three), play golf and plan a kick ass vacation at taxpayer expense.

Who the hell gets 17 days of vacation in America. When I was an Army Officer I never got more than a couple weeks off at any one time and I was never in charge of a country. The average American can't even make ends meet and is lucky to get 10 days a year while the POTUS yucks it up with the big whiggs on the beach on Hawaii for 17 days?

He is the most pathetic excuse of a leader I have ever seen and I have seen some bad ones...

Trust me I trained ROTC Cadets for a couple years if he were one he'd have failed out in the first year IMO. Anyone who would trust this guy with anything remotely related to leadership needs to have their head examined.

He is the opposite of a leader.

I have seen some 21 year old college kids who have more leadership potential and actual leadership instinct in their little toe than the POTUS seems to have.

Chilling out a bit, as a negotiation strategy, isn't being duplicitous or corrupt. It's just dealing with the job of being President. Obama is a black man. The very first ever black man to hold the office of President of the US. Compared to most other presidents, his first 100 days were pretty intense, and not just because he was the first ever black man elected president (although, that would've been enough pressure, considering the crazy talk that we still hear today). The entire world's economic structure was in free fall. Being gentle with the Congress wasn't the same as being corrupt, but like I said, you can see it any way you wish.

This term the Congress will likely have a very different experience with the administration, but that's due to everyone in the West Wing knowing where the bathrooms are this time around. Again, not corrupt, but a bit less accommodating than they were in 2009 and 2010. I guess we'll have to see how this plays out.

They want to print money they need inflation. Inflation will raise tax revenue's and eliminate the national debt. Banks are sitting on property's so when its all over the houses value increases. They cant sit on money as its value doesn't go up only real asset increase with inflation. Just my opinion.

Ever hear of a conference call? How about email or cell phones? They have web conferencing too. You old guys really need to get with this new century of mobile communications.

Oh...and Obama isn't a Senator or a House Rep. He doesn't vote on bills or sit on a House or Senate subcommittee. He's not part of the process that the Congress faces. All he can do is shame those idiots into doing their jobs, and that's all he can do. The rest is done by them and their staffs.

Also, when I was a Sgt in the USAF, I had 30 days leave every single year. The Army also gives its people 30 days of leave each year. I have no idea what army you were an officer in, but it must not have been the US Army.

It's so easy to make empty claims on the Internet. Of course, you should be careful to know what it is that you're talking about, so that someone can't come along and expose your ignorance.

I don't care if Obama is black or royal blue, for you to believe that the Obama administration is not corrupt, just likel the administrations before him, is truly amazing, and proves we have nothing to discuss.

"Bows down to the Messiah", while chanting "You are the only president ever without a corrupt bone in your body".

People, this is part and parcel of the socialist plan. Purposely collapse the economy, then offer up a totalitarian state as a solution to "save" everyone, which will seem appealing given the state of things at that moment. You can bet that the salvation plan is already written.

Look, things are run by the central bankers. The "debt" is vaporware. They created the wealth out of thin air, took it all for themselves, leaving taxpayers with debt that is equally as vaporous. They DO NOT CARE if they don't get their money back because it was never real to begin with. Once the entire planet is under socialist control, they will STILL have everything. A bit simplistic, but that's basically the plot.

I't not even like I am a psychic or anything. I just have a brain in my damn head.

Dear Golf66,

An ROTC trainer, eh? You might have even trained me, if you're old enough, which I seriously doubt.

Thanks for the thumbs up on the sarcasm. I appreciate your opinion especially. No, of course he's not a leader. There are times when the country can get by with minimal leadership, but this isn't one of them. He hasn't led domestically or internationally.

The most recent estimate is that his vacation will cost $4 million, movement restrictions on Hawaiian residents are set for 21 days, and he'll be gone during the fiscal debates, the extraordinarily touchy situation in the Mid-East, and the rebel activity and civil wars in Africa. Oh, and I forgot dealing with Benghazi, the FEMA flop in Hurricane Sandy, Secretarial possibility Rice, and the list continues.

I'm not quite ready to put on a "Good-bye America" bumper sticker, but it's getting really close.

With respect,
Charles1952

If it's bullsh*t

Yes, it is bull# and your rhetoric about the government is looking out for the people is laughable at best. Simply put, they want to eliminate the debt ceiling....taxing the rich more won't do a damn thing if the government doesn't control it's spending.

Why are you bringing the race card into it? Who cares, if a white person was president and was suggesting these things I wouldn't like him either.

yeah because Mitt Romney and the Republicans are soooooo much better.....

Obama and the Democrats are actually proposing something....
Republicans are just sitting back and complaining and haven't proposed a damn thing.

This was a CLASSIC "string on the end of a carrot" campaign....when did the Obama administration EVER mention a FISCAL CLIFF in their campaign for presidention [re:] election????

Not once...if they had, then Obama would not have gotten in!

Already has with that capital gains tax coming which is what the majority of people have invested, and all those union types pensions are invested.

They voted for taking more money from themselves, blame the evil rich, and the house for.

Capital gains, dividend tax rates effect the majority of Americans in this country not just the "evil rich".
