Hi all,
I've done a search on the NASA url of this picture, and the search came up with nothing so here I come with a thread of my own...

I've come across this picture from the Mars Rover site and was wondering what the collective wisdom of ATS would make of it...

Cheers!

It looks like a big boat on the horizon with one each side of it, though I may have the wrong glasses on.

IF it is real, and not an artifact, it would be more squared off since the lens produces a concave view. Still food for thought though even if it's just a artifact in the picture!

There's also an interesting object with what looks like two lights at the right side of the pic... Very interesting!

Well, I'm stumped. Can anyone provide a logical explanation to this? I know there's one.

Sorry what exactly is unusual about this? Not sure what I am meant to be looking at...

Are you talking about the Rovers reflection at the top?

I re-sized it for the thread if that is okay...

Interesting anomaly. My first guess would be that it is somehow a reflection of a different part of the rover but I haven't quite been able to wrap my head around how this would occur just yet. Thanks for posting it!

The camera has a protective shield and that is what you are seeing at the top of the picture.
Or maybe the underneath of the rover itself.

Ahhh...I see it now. Funny that, once your mind is given the proper perspective it jumps right out at you. Good eye Sir!

I see what you mean... not completely convinced though...
Does these look anything like parts of the Rover?

Cheers!

I've scanned through quite some of the pictures of the Spirit Rear Hazcam, and the same objects appear quite consistently on all pics, which would indicate you're correct. Well spotted!

The upper portion of the photograph is the reflection of the lower part of the rover. That camera looks to be underneath part of the solar panels of the rover. The rover has two "Hazcams" that provide 120deg field of view.

Indeed, the one on the right could almost pass for a concept Batmobile
