For people who are against those receiving food stamps:

For a working family, genuinely in need, who cannot make the ends meet at the end of the month and have children to feed, or lost their home and job, WHAT do you want these people to do? Starve to death? Do you honestly want them to starve?

You know, I cannot abide a person who makes welfare a lifestyle, but there are honest, good, hard working people out there who just cannot make ends meet.

We should not punish these people. We should have some human compassion.

My grandma told me that back in WWII when everyone planted their victory gardens, that everyone helped one another out and no one went hungry. Instead of complaining and hoarding your food, open a soup kitchen if you don't want people on welfare.

By the way it sounds in this thread, it seems some people simply do not care about other human beings. You would rather people simply dry up and blow away and that's just sad.

this country has gone the way of MINE MINE MINE and ME ME ME, which is evident in all the black friday videos.

For one moment, try to picture yourself in a situation where you cannot make ends meet and you have gone from one place to the next begging for work, knocking on doors and asking if you can shovel someone's sidewalk or mow lawns.... and the answer is NO, every time, and you have a little one at home, needing to eat.

Are you going to starve to maintain your pride?

Pride comes before a fall.

People who have seen my other post might find it strange but I actually support food stamps. Let me clarify though that I do not support long term assistance for able bodied people nor do I support welfare however food stamps do not fall into that category in my opinion.

Our govt has squandered trillions of dollars to oppress us and others. Food stamps are one of the only thing that stem off some of this for many families until times get better (as if). The least we can do is feed people in need many of which are children or elderly. My tax dollars have been used for unspeakable crimes no doubt the least I can do is allow it to help someone.

Its like everyone is saying "The govt is robbing us blind, The bankers are killing our livelihood, The politicians sold us out. Lets show those guys by taking more from the poor !" this doesn't make sense to me. I'm for strict punishment for anyone who abuses this system. Its like blaming the victim in a way.

This is engineered class warfare. This is how socialist/communist revolutions occur. The poor have always been used to terrorize the middle class. Now the elite want the middle class to attack the poor to make things right while the bankers are still throwing loot in the get away car.

Get rid of foodstamps and you have 47 million going hungry. Hungry desperate people will do anything. There isn't enough police and security to deal with a throng of starving people. I for one would consider it a declaration of war by the govt. on the people. I would fight back with everything I could muster.

I wont read through all of this...im sure there are quite a few of you with hard feelings towards people living off of hand outs. Granted, i hate working only to be taxed to keep certain people alive.

How many of you, however, are fine with our money going overseas, to genocidal welfare countries...not states?

Many of these same people were working before GWBush crashed the economy--
they did not ask to lost thier jobs, their homes, their insurance, and their life savings...
If you want to be angry, be angry at GWBush-- his ego cashed a check we could not cover!
CLinton left a surplus, Bush snorted the line of cash all the way to Iraq...

The problem of starvation, which US taxpayers pay billions for in tax-deductible contributions, is a daily reality on one side of the world; while the problem of obesity, which taxpayers pay less than 1% for in the Obamacare plan per capita, is a daily reality on the other side. Guess which side you're on? Explain how our taxes are being applied unfairly.

GMOs and artificial everything I would think cause obesity. Not food stamps, and 15 miles to the market is not considered walking distance here.

Oh c'mon!...Let's just shoot them all. The Alphabet organizations have bought...what?...a billion hollow point rounds this year? Might as well put those tax dollars to good use. While they're at it...might as well knock out another 53 million worthless folks...you know...the dumb ones. If you are so uneducated that you cannot name the three branches of Gov...one between the eyes. That'll fix the population and unemployment problem...I'm thinking we need to drop about 1/3 of our population...back to about 230 to 250 million or so and we'll be back to the numbers of "the good ole days".

The whole world needs to follow suit...we need to drop the whole world to about 4.5 to 5 billion...that way it makes sure all of us have cheap gas for a few more years...all those useless eaters all over the world...using us superior beings air...how dare they!

Isn't that how many of you feel? I guess just don't have the guts to say it and live with yourself when it starts happening

I would like to add to this thread something that can give you an example of what
happens when people start going hungry in large numbers, please anyone who
does not already know, and by know i mean actually know the details, look up the
great depression, it puts into stark reality exactly what happens when people
go hungry in large numbers.

This mess is so far gone i honestly wonder if its possible to fix it without some
major costs, both in terms of human lives and monetarily.

1) What are GMOs? No really, define and explain them, beyond passing them off as something you heard was a bad thing.

2) What is "artificial everything"?

3) What does mileage to the market have to do with a) starvation in developing countries and b) "here"?

I am genuinely curious where you are basing your views for selfish reasons. I have only three months with students who want to understand how to decipher truth from fiction, and they are counting on me to know about both so I can give them the most current information. Please, help me do this. Do you have children?

Food Stamp Recipients Outnumber Populations of 24 States Combined

In November, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that a record 47,102,780 individuals receive food stamps.

According to US. Census Bureau data, that figure exceeds the combined populations of: Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Have massive numbers of people depending on the US gov't for everything.
Have a gov't heavily invested in taking our $$ away to supposedly 'spread the wealth'.
Have a gov't heavily investing in taking over our health care and retirement.
Have a gov't deciding who can fly on an airplane out of the country and who can't.
Have a gov't deciding what schools can and can't teach and rewriting history lessons.
And what do you get??? A government that is VERY powerful over the people.
And the extra sad thing is that the people keep voting the same thing in over and over ..

This is frightening. To quote Dr. Who - "Stay Calm. Don't blink".
Seriously .. we can't even afford to blink.

I love how these articles always tend to point out large and irrelevant details rather than the seemingly small but overwhelmingly damning ones. Like the fact that more money is spent on corporate welfare every single year than in all the years combined since the welfare program began nearly 40 years ago. How they always ignore the fact that free government handouts are given to people and corporations yearly who absolutely do not need them. These are the same corporations like Walmart who give low prices and even lower wages and benefits all so they can maximize profit all while undercutting American manufacturers. Yet Im sure the people talking # about welfare lined their stupid asses up on black Friday to give all their pennies away to Walmart just to be broke on Monday. Im pretty sure that the 2008 bank bailout/extortion was more money than the welfare budget has ever seen nor will ever see in its budget history, yet there is absolutely no outrage about that nor the fact that the American people will ever see a dime of it repaid to them.

Red Herrings galore !!

Does anyone agree that the government needs to create an atmosphere that encourages hiring and normal jobs ?

Everybody needs to understand the money.

What do you think will happen when the money runs out ?

It real close now folks....real close.

How much longer can the U.S. Government keep up the borrowing ?

The Cloward–Piven strategy is a political strategy outlined in 1966 by American sociologists and political activists Richard Cloward (1926–2001) and Frances Fox Piven (b. 1932) that called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty". Cloward and Piven were a married couple who were both professors at the Columbia University School of Social Work. The strategy was formulated in a May 1966 article in liberal[1] magazine The Nation titled "The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty".

Apparently you have been successfully indoctrinated into the lie that government has something to do with why there are fewer jobs.

Educate yourself. www.abovetopsecret.com...

I'd like them to try and they would be facing my gun point. My tax dollars are being used inefficiently to feed people that should be feeding themselves. If the government stopped handing out free food, these people might get off the couch and find something more constructive to do like start a business, work, etc. The past twenty years of government have been failures. America is no longer the empire it used to be and as citizens we have given up, done nothing and watched its decline.

You sound like a true blood Trotskyite. Learn how the USSR was formed and you may hear yourself in that rhetoric. Socialism and communism grabbed a foothold with rhetoric like yours, because those as apparently misinformed as you believed what they were being told, since they had no better way to find out for themselves. You can't claim that kind of innocence, with global information at your fingertips. You live in a world that can know everything now, and the fact that you choose when to take advantage of that opportunity is what allows you to consider yourself an "individual thinker." Fools turned into Trotskyites because they had no access to information being used against them. You and I have no such luxury of ignorance. Civil responsibility has never been heavier on our shoulders as it is now.

We lost 9 million jobs under Obama, and millions more went from full time to part time. Hey keep blaming Bush though.
