Normandy, 1944, June, The American had two beaches, the rest of the 'allies' (British, Canadians, french, Polish) had three beaches, named Gold, Juno, and sword, what were the two American beaches called?

Dont judge us too harshly for the few that deserve it. Some definitely were asleep during those classes. Most of us were not. And we were not taught any of that as "facts" either.

Hail Good Fellow, well met!

Also...This does not bode well for our case and is not a true representation of us, but we have a show here called the "Tonight Show" where Jay Leno goes out on the street and asks simple questions about America from the youth. It goes something like this:

Q. Who is the current Vice President? A. Ron Paul?
Q. Who did we fight in the Vietnam war? A. The Japanese?
Q. Who said "I cannot tell a lie, I chopped down that cherry tree"? A. John F. Kennedy?
Q. The Civil War was fought between what 2 groups? A. The Republicans and the Vatican?
Q. We were at war with the British over what reason? A. We didnt like their tea?
Q. Ok...then what did we do about it? A. We started a holiday called Thanksgiving.
Q. Who were the Pilgrims? A. The actors in a John Wayne movie?
O. Whom did Charles Manson kill? A. It was supposed to be "Marilyn Manson, rt? He killed his whole Manson family and that actor guy.
Q. Oh, ok. Who was that? A. Bill Cosby, rt? Or was it BING Crosby? David Crosby?

Sad, indeed. Its not what we are taught in American Schools...its really about how much we paid attention in class!

Not that there is the expectation to interact with the most intelligent Americans playing video games, this doesn't surprise me. I went to an all girl's catholic school, and of course there was some biased education going on.

One thing that gets me though: My little sister, who goes to public school, came home and mentioned the class learned the United States is a democracy.

Constitutional republic. I repeated that about 10 times to her, haha.

They're only saying this BECAUSE it makes you mad. Don't think it represents all of America because some twat plays a video game rudely. That would be like me assuming that all Brits are sensitive pansies who can't handle a bit of joshing on the internet.

You simply got trolled because of your accent. Wasn't the first time, and definitely won't be the last.

Some people like to pretend to be ignorant so people like you who give a sh!t about what others say get all riled up.

Mission accomplished.

Oh, absolutely, Britain was completely devastated from an unprecedented bombardment by the Luftwaffe. It was a miserable time, but Brits held their chins up and held their own. They were invaluable allies. The fact is just that a British offensive would never have worked out well without us.

Sounds to me like you got trolled and you fell for it. It is not uncommon for me to say outrageous stuff in a game just to make it interesting. Its very easy to get people to buy it too. you just say you are american and by default people think you are dumb and stupid .. then you spout of really outrageous stuff like it was gospel.

Foreigners are so easy to tease.

As an American, I can tell you I know a lot about history, and yea, most American students don't know sh*t about history. Here's an example from BO2. You might have noticed that Oliver North, Manuel Noriega, and Jonas Savimbi all appear as characters in the campaign. When I got the game, a week ago, I had to spend something like a half hour explaining to my friends who those three were, and why they were in the game. I understand not knowing who Savimbi is, but American's should at least know who North and Noriega are. As someone who recently graduated high school, I can tell you that history classes in California only teach students the bare minimum about history, literally all the class learned was a few important dates and the names of some important historical figures. I felt like I was in "Random historical trivia busywork class" not American History, World History, etc.......

You were probably being messed with, trust me when I say that Americans know the difference between Europeans and Mid-Easterners..........though oddly enough, not Spaniards and Mexicans.

They were trolling you.

This. I used to play on xbl quite often, and most of the time people like this, who I know well lol, are just trying to rile you up. That does not mean they believe what they are saying, as I am not sure anyone could be that stupid, lol. Maybe they can though, as the educational system in this country is a bit lacking. The supposedly correct information you provided is a bit lacking as well though. As far as the revolution in the former colonies, I am pretty sure that it was a total military victory, and not a diplomatic one.

But two of your points on this topic are spot on, and people in the US often forget these: first, your country was pouring money and resources into another conflict at the time, which did reduce the fighting force and their battle readiness, and contributed at least some amount to the subsequent defeat of the armies. But the American troops were even less trained, as most of them were anything but professional soldiers, having received no proper military training at all. The second point that many Americans forget is that were it not for the French, we would not have succeeded in gaining independence from Britain.

The French did what the rebels could not, which was provide a strong navy to fortify key harbors and ports. The surrender that ended the war would not have been possible without the blockading of the land forces, effectively eliminating their retreat via ship. The French contributed in other ways as well. Had the French not been enemies with Britain, who knows if they would have helped the Americans, or if the war would have even lasted as long. The founders of this country may not have taken the same actions in this instance as well...So anyway, just ignore people who troll. If you feed the trolls, they get satisfaction.

That is pretty sad. Did you give them partial credit for questions 1 and 3?

As for the other questions 2 and 4, yeah they were completely off their rockers, unless they meant to take out "world" in question 2.

I was playing World of Tanks with my clan mates a while back and we have this 15 year old in our clan (most are adults with prior-service experience). Not sure how the subject or question got raised, but one of the older dudes asked the pup, "what galaxy we live in?" and after a few moments of silence the dude gives him a hint. He told him a candy bar is named after it. The pup answered, "snickers?", yeah the whole clan was floored, half laughing and half speechless.

Pretty awesome education system we got here in the U.S.

These "Americans" were not taught this in school, they learned it from their parents. That's how it was perceived by them.

On the American side it's biased, and apparently it is also biased over there as well. It's a way to keep country moral high, our parents hyped us up to believe we are the best.

Please learn how to spell before calling others out on stupidity. All words can be spell checked via google.

Regarding world war 2, I don't know if it is because of the Cold War but Americans and us brits completely neglect the huge contribution the Russians made on world war 2. The Russians repelled the Germans in their own and marched on Berlin.

If anything they were the main reason the allies won. I would rank the British contribution second and the American third. We won the Battle of Britain without American help and if we had have lost the Germans would certainly be favourites to defeat America.

That's why the Russians call it 'the great patriotic war' instead of WW 2 Stalin had a hissy fit when the Brits stopped their supply convoys to Archangel when the Brits lost almost all of one convoy to U-boats and aircraft in the winter. The Russians never sent out any escorts to help.

Russia certainly bore the brunt of the Nazi forces but without a second or third front to worry about (Britain and North Africa) Germany may well have crushed them. The Allies gave Russia close to 20,000 tanks and 10,000 aircraft along with critical raw materials through the lend-lease program without which the outcome may have gone differently as well.
The reason the statistics in dead and wounded are so dramatic is due to the poor weaponry, tactics and leadership of the Soviet forces in the early part of the war especially. Human wave tactics and cavalry charges traded soldiers for time in the great retreat.
I agree with your ranking contributions but it was truly the combined efforts of them all that stopped the German war machine. Had Hitler the wisdom and correct political moves he might have taken each nation out in turn.
Ah, the fun of imagining histories great "what ifs".
