Ask not whether the glass may be half full, or half empty,
but ask then, "Are you going to finish that?"

A well-known proverb states: an optimistic would say a glass is half full, while a pessimist would say it is half empty. What would people of different professions and walks of life say?
The government would say that the glass is fuller than if the opposition party were in power.

The opposition would say that it is irrelevant because the present administration has changed the way such volume statistics are collected.

The philosopher would say that, if the glass was in the forest and no one was there to see it, would it be half anything?

The economist would say that, in real terms, the glass is 25% fuller than at the same time last year.

The banker would say that the glass has just under 50% of its net worth in liquid assets.

The psychiatrist would ask, "What did your mother say about the glass?"

The physicist would say that the volume of this cylinder is divided into two equal parts; one a colorless, odorless liquid, the other a colorless, odorless gas. Thus the cylinder is neither full nor empty. Rather, each half of the cylinder is full, one with a gas, one with a liquid.

The seasoned drinker would say that the glass doesn''t have enough ice in it.

You are the glass and not the idea of whats in it.
If you think you are kicking ass, than you are. (half full)
If you think you are losing, than you are. (half empty)

Be the glass and not whats in it.
Look inside yourself before you look at whether its full or not.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Neither. The glass is twice as big as it needs to be. Get a smaller glass!

Man, you beat me to my own answer.

I always say "The glass would be full if it was smaller".

Makes you think. Things arent getting worse, things aren't getting better, but your still good if your expections become more aligned with real life.

half empty or half full or...?
hmmm
where is combination of such words taught???
half is half...full is full...empty is empty...whom ever thinks different needs schooling

my answer...question accepted but before an answer can be returned i must ask if we are in agreement with definitions of such words to include...(btw...i'm not the brightest so i need such clarity in communication)
half................sum of a unit divided by 2
empty............state of readiness to contain all possible
or..................optional choice
half................sum of a unit divided by 2
full.................containing all possible

the word half, empty or full is being improperly interjected in this question...
please ask me again what information you seek
incase proper use and understanding of words exist between us here...can i enlighten you

a container whether it be glass, stone or whatever can only contain an amount possible
amount contained can be half
amount contained can be full
amount contained can be empty
amount contained can vary beyond those 3
but there can only be one "state of amount" contained..."as questioned here"..not plural

so question must be rephrased if an answer is to be expected/returned or...
"what we have here is a failure to communicate"...as Strother Martin said

The glass is too big. I'd lower my standards, therefore.

To enable you to better comprehend the nature of the query since you say you aren't the brightest , it is essentially asking if an observed object has had something removed from it or added to it. Is there hope or is there despair? Is there anticipation of something to be achieved or is there sorrow that what was once had is no longer there

....not accepting applications...

Oh, yes there is, my heart is empty! Emptiness is a way of life for some. A feeling of the absence of love.

Ok, you can all get back on topic now. Although is your glass of love half full or half empty. I think I broke the glass sometime in the past.

It took me a long time to work that out, if you can tell me why he smashed it then you earn my respect. Its not much but I find few occasions these days to give it.

ahhhhh..... there is no jug

The schrodinger's cat of zen

Thats close. It is neither, all perspectives of that type are just that, perspectives. Neither have any relation to the nature of reality or truth. smashing the jug is a symbol of an illusion broken.

en.wikipedia.org...

Is the glass half empty or half full? is a common expression, used rhetorically to indicate that a particular situation could be a cause for optimism (half full) or pessimism (half empty), or as a general litmus test to simply determine an individual's worldview. The purpose of the question is to demonstrate that the situation may be seen in different ways depending on one's point of view and that there may be opportunity in the situation as well as trouble. This idiom is used to explain how people perceive events and objects. Perception is unique to every individual and is simply one's interpretation of reality. The phrase "Is the glass half empty or half full" can be referred to as a philosophical question.

Article Source: EzineArticles.com...

If you are the type of person who sees your glass as half empty, think about what might be behind this thought. Have you always been negative and pessimistic or is this a new way of viewing life and the world around you? If this is a relatively new experience, perhaps it is temporary and will work itself out. However, if this feeling persists or you have always viewed your glass as half empty, here are some things you can do to fill the emptiness, and start seeing your glass as half full.

This article suggest there may be a physical or emotional reason that is the root cause for how you do perceive this particular dilemma...just thought I would pass it along.

When I see a half full glass on the counter I want to know why they wasted half a glass, why didn't they rinse out the glass if they were finished, and why do I always get stuck washing the dang glass? Is somebody trying to mess with my head again?
