There ARE many employers who have always provided healthcare insurance fortheir employees. Every employer I have ever had has provided healthcare insurance. My husband's small business employer has always offered healthcare insurance, and will continue to do so now. Nothing changes.

And there have always been employers who refuse to provide healthcare insurance for their employees. They will continue to find ways not to provide that insurance. Nothing changes.

Mental note, tell all the teachers that are flipping burgers that they don't want to work at CCAC if given the opportunity. "Look a teaching job!" Stampede in 3.. 2... 1 Second mental note, tell teachers presently working at CCAC to go work at Walmart over principles. Silence in 3...2...1.... This is the 100% reality of the teaching situation in the CCAC area. The teachers will line up even for a job teaching in a prison.

I'm not really getting at what you mean. Are there too many teachers in the area? Is CCAC a great job?

Although this area is doing great, job wise. Teaching jobs are hard to come by. Most teachers are so desperate, that they would take any teaching job that they could get their hands on. Even if just one day a week. You will find many teachers working in restaurants, fast food, and Walmart type stores.

There will be (and are) companies that are restructuring their workforce to avoid this mandate.
To what degree this will occur is the only variable.

If it becomes as pervasive as I expect, then government will be forced to legislate their way out.
the alternative is the destruction of the lower-middle class and a huge spike in social service
requests.

This is/was bound to happen. You will see more companies and businesses hiring hiring more workers at less than thirty hours a week to avoid the cost of insurance.

This seemed to be the trend before Obamacare, except then the magic number was under 40.

Previously you could be hired as part time (guaranteed 32 hours) but still work 40 hours if you so chose. This allowed part time employees to make a living wage. Now if yo uare part time you will be refused hours beyond 29, and those with families to feed will not be able to feed them. The business will either have to drastically increase prices to the consumer or go out of business if they allow workers to work past 29 hours. Both options lead them to going out of business.

Obama should have had the foresight that this would happen. Look, I am not the president and I certainly did. You just can't affect the economy of an entire country and expect there to not be any repercussions. Especially during a recession.

Nothing in life is ever fair. If people want their fair shake, they have to work on getting it themselves. I didn't have health insurance via work in my early twenties. So guess what? We worked extra hard and bought it ourselves. We were scraping by, but had insurance. All while we dealt with a new home and a new child. Then I even snuck off to college to strain things even further. Later we made certain that we always had jobs that provided health benefits. The American dream is there for those that work for it.

The problem is that any and all cost saving measures that were in the bill were removed in back room deals with special interest groups such as big pharm. This is not speculation, it is proven public information.

Most teaching jobs ARE unionized, and extremely well paid. CCAC is known for hiring teachers that already have full time jobs. Many of them work at local high schools or are tenured professors at excellent universities. Say they want to make some extra cash on weekends, evenings or during the summers. I guess $50,000 - $100,000 or more a year, with summers off, just isn't enough for them. There are some though in the specialty programs that work just there alone. (These are the ones that will be hurt by this.) But for most it is a way to pick up a class or 2 for some extra cash.

Gee, who would have thought that businesses wouldn't cut into their profit margins to pay for Obamacare?

Probably the same people that didn't realize that spending $2 billion a week on Middle East wars for a few years would lead to an economic crisis.

All the colleges around here supply health care, some can't afford to pay super high wages like other colleges do though. Maybe the college should look at the high wages they are paying these instructors that make it so they can't supply healthcare. I see that many people want extra wages instead of coverage for healthcare, they can always get the government to pick up the bill if something major happens. Screwing the government has always been a priority of some people, I know many who have that attitude. Other people just pay what taxes they owe and say I support our country.

I think that the financial outlay of this college should be examined to find out what is happening to the money. I am sure it is waste and greed that is causing this mess.

The loss of jobs, the strain of the people forced to accept foodstamps and assistance from the very same government that created the situation that put them there will just crush the entire system.

I'm just curious as to what is the name of the cliff that the Bush administration propelled us towards in 2008?

No cliff, but the name of your ailment is called Bush Derangement Syndrome.

We are becoming a nation of part-time workers and full-time food stamp recipients.

This is all part of Obama's plan.

The name of that cliff is the Obama administration.

It is much much worse than is being said here, now all those part time people MUST buy insurance. Thanks to Obama-care, private citizens will be compelled to buy something- health insurance. And, even more employers will simply choose to pay the fines, since that costs less than providing insurance for full-time workers, and those people will be forced to buy insurance. This gift to the insurance industry was brought to you by Obama and Pelosi, good job there.

If people would open their own savings account as their "health insurance" instead of expecting someone else to foot their bill, their would be no examples of these "greedy companies."

People are going to react to Obamacare. It's only going to get worse.

Something had to be done?

So just force someone else to pay for your healthcare? Because that totally solves the actual problem.

I mean, healthcare couldn't be so expensive because workers demand health care benefits from their employers, could it? Ya know, all those hospitals and doctors offices know that they can charge whatever they want because they have the guarantee that it will be paid by insurance companies.

Or what about the resources that hospitals and doctors offices use? You realize that we could have easily lowered healthcare costs simply by breaking up the monopolies that healthcare providers rely on, right.

But, no, that's not rational. It is far more rational to force people to pay for another person's expenses.

Obama seems to have left a gaping loophole in this new heathcare tax of his. All you have to do is hire folks for 29 hours a week instead of 40? Won't all employers eventually do this? It may take some time for people to adjust to living on 75% of their prior budget, but simple arithmetic seems to make it necessary now, no?

No, only the greedy employers will do that ..

My company actually just brought on more people and increased our health benefits.. they were all too happy to do so because they genuinely seem to care about their staff.. I think the ones who will be doing stuff like this are the ones who weren't providing health care for their employees in the first place and don't want to have to.. so instead, they will cut their employees hours rather than care for them.

Thank you for your reply.
Though I do not live in PA as it sounds like you do, I don't know exactly the situation there but if things are as bad as you claim then it seems like a good idea to unionize. The only way to win tit-for-tat is to not give in! There is strength in numbers.

Do you live in fantasy-land? Where is all of this magical-money suppose to come from?

Has it ever occurred to you that your health is your responsibility?

You accept wages for the services you do for the company that you work for, and then you demand they pay for you healthcare, and you have the gall to call someone else greedy?

Seriously?

I think health care should be something that everyone has access to .. most civilized countries provide it.. we're one of those that doesn't... I think that's a bad thing..

Yeah there's ways to lower health costs AND provide it for your people.. I think both should be done.. not one or the other... hospitals in particular charge some extravagant fees because as you said, they know insurance will pay for it ... that sort of extravagance prevents anyone from being able to go without insurance and not go bankrupt if they have an expensive medical emergency... I think it's horrible that in this day and age, someone might have to worry about losing their life savings... or house.. or car.. or all of the above, just because they had a medical emergency.. we're a modern society.. healthcare shouldn't be a luxury service, it should be expected... doctors shouldn't be so rich that they can afford summer homes, month long ski trips and all that jazz either .. (my former GP has his own yacht!)

That is not an excuse for being irresponsible.

Yeah there's ways to lower health costs AND provide it for your people.. I think both should be done.. not one or the other...

You give your power away to another when you receive a benefit from them. You do not have the right to force someone to pay for something for you. That is tyranny.

Get rid of the health insurance companies and watch the cost of healthcare plummet.

People in the United States are just flat-out irresponsible. It is not like it used to be. We cause our own financial ruin by our own actions. People would not destroy themselves if they lived within their means.

But instead of being responsible they would rather pull out grand loans for cars and homes, which just puts them in even worse positions.

What happened to saving money and buying something outright with cash? You set your own traps by your own lifestyles and deserve no sympathy. To protect a man from his own folly is to fill the world with fools. No?

I think it's horrible that in this day and age, someone might have to worry about losing their life savings... or house.. or car.. or all of the above, just because they had a medical emergency..

Stop taking out loans. A person will get a loan from a bank for a home that costs $400,000 and wind up making payments on the loan for the next 30 years.

That same person will take out a loan on a $40,000 car, increasing their monthly payments and the length of time that they are in debt.

They wind up in a position where they cannot even save money any more because they work simply to pay off their debts.

They dig their own graves, and expect to be bailed out.

we're a modern society..

That is irrelevant.

healthcare shouldn't be a luxury service

Then force your doctor to provide you healthcare at gunpoint. It amounts to the same thing.

it should be expected...

Only by children who have been raised to believe they can get something for free.

doctors shouldn't be so rich that they can afford summer homes, month long ski trips and all that jazz either .. (my former GP has his own yacht!)

So, not only are you entitled, not only is a company "greedy" when they won't give in to your greedy demands, but you get to dictate who is rich and who is not?
