I have to admit as a non American I can't comment on the "before thanksgiving" part.. however that does not stop me being peeved at the Christmas cr*p
in the shops from October onwards along with Christmas music..
Mid to end of November I could probably deal with ok, but that's only because it would be better than it is now..
It is no wonder so many thousands around here attend the Winter Solstice as it seems almost like an antidote to the rampant commercialism that
Christmas has become.
The local rag (newspaper) calls the local Winter Solstice celebration (attended by 10s of thousands) "a new urban ritual to replace traditional
festivals lost in the politically correct drive to be modern, secular and non-superstitious"
it is a shame they omitted the part where our
traditional festivals have also been lost to "commercialism"
