Anonymous #OpIsrael is angry about Israel censoring the internet!

& That is the 'official' statement from anonymous on why they are doing what they are now.

Anonymous hacker group attacks Israeli websites

Hacking group Anonymous has launched a series of cyber attacks against websites in Israel.

Data bombardments briefly knocked some sites offline and led to others being defaced with pro-Palestinian messages.

The OpIsrael campaign was launched by the hacking collective in retaliation for attacks on Gaza.

The cyber attacks come as the Israeli army updates its web campaign adding "achievements" and "badges" for regular visitors.
Propaganda war

Anonymous said it had launched the OpIsrael campaign following threats by the Israeli government to cut all Gaza's telecommunication links. This, said the group in a statement posted to the AnonRelations website, "crossed a line in the sand".

"We are ANONYMOUS and NO ONE shuts down the Internet on our watch," it said.

The group warned the Israeli government not to cut off telecom and web links and urged it to end military operations in Gaza. If the attacks did not end, Israel would feel the group's "full and unbridled wrath".

Hours after the statement was launched, Anonymous posted a list of 87 sites it claimed had been defaced or attacked as part of OpIsrael. Many of the sites had their homepages replaced with messages in support of Hamas and the Palestinians.

Anonymous also produced a package of information for people in Gaza detailing alternative ways for them to communicate if net and other telecommunication links were cut.

When corrupt governments around the world have tried to censor the internet anonymous have always been the first people to support the people and help them get the internet back up. When Mubarak took down the internet in Egypt they hated this, they see it as corrupt regimes stifling freedom of speech and censoring their internet.

Also when the Tunisian government tried to censor the internet when they were in the height of their corrupt state annonymous came to their rescue too and enabled them to connect with SSL keys and by other means. The Tunisian people were ecstatic with admiration for these people that came to help them overthrow their awful government. That part is at 1:02:00 in this documentary about them.

I think many people underestimate the group mentality of anon when they are roused. Most days they can live to the stereotype of a bunch of stoner kids in mommies basement, but as soon as the whole community is up in arms about something specific, the internet is their oyster, and far more organizations than them alone get involved.

Not in a particularly bad chaotic way, it's easy to paint them as the Joker from Batman, but they are more the vigilante Batman than his nemesis. Sometimes to transcend cultural law and bias you have to bend the law yourself. They see this as their primary role in countries who ban the internet at times of disorder.

One thing is for sure, they have helped many populations rise up against dictators and repressive regimes when the internet has tried to be censored, and they have a very good history showing this is what bets the most active.

And now, Israel has started censoring the internet too (specially military and govenment data)

Anon are NOT happy. This is what caused Mubarack to be overthrown just in days when he shut down the entire countries internet, lets just hope they don't go that far, else they'll have the Israeli people to worry about just as much as their neighbors.

So, ever had a problem with companies or governments censoring data? Give anon a message somehow, and wait see if they deem it worthy to act on.

Found out over night things got worse, with the Israeli government censoring any critics of their political leader from Israeli access. So anon took down the official Israeli Gov. Website and others within an hour.

Thank you for the updates, the useful information, and the great thread.

I think Anonymous is what the general consensus is. People are naturally drawn to helping those that can not help themselves. People in congregation generally veer towards collaboration because that's what people do. They work together for something positive. It feels good, and it hopefully results in good. Unfortunately as a disparate group they will never achieve the growth truly necessary for a shift in attitude towards greater unification and impact. That happened with lulzsec, and we know how that turned out. That is their strength, and their weakness. I don't know how the two could be separated without neutering the entire movement, or making a unified group vulnerable to espionage again. It seems like TPTB have won for the most part. Any high level players are taken out, leaving a vocal group without actual power.

I'd love to hear responses. I'm not involved with the group, but enjoy the "Robin Hood" tale they're providing.

I respect "Anonymous" for what they have done (tho not sure how effective it is to hack random Israeli websites since there's tens of millions of Israeli websites. At most it'll just piss the Israeli people off even more)...

But I foresee they will be the excuse for the passing of endless cyber security bills and internet "kill-switches" by the UN and Obama administration.

If you know enough about cryptology then you can do pretty much whatever you want. Encrypted virtual machine within firmware hardware within another encrypted decoy virtual machine OS, Onion, TOR, etc.

Anon would have to do something drastically morally wrong for any governments population to let orders like that pass. Think of the # storm it would bring up just now.

Heh some of them are hilarious! Especially since each website owner will tend to be a rich company owner that send their sons and neighbors into battle whilst never fighting for themselves. The only real sites to be attacked so far are propaganda sites, government, mossad, police or deeply racist and zionist ones.
