What is your husband like? Is he small in stature? Does he look meek and mild mannered?

When I was younger, I noticed if I was out with a tall, strapping, manly male that other men would leave me alone but if I was ever out with a short, nerdy, or skinny guy, men would come up and hit on me right in front of them.

It was like if they new my male companion could take them on- then they wouldn't dare. But if my male companion looked like he was a non threat, they'd step right over him and cat call or cut in on our dancing and stuff.

It could have been your husband's demeanor or just a bunch of rowdy men in a pack mentality.

You can take a man out of the cave, but you can't take the caveman out of the man.

"UG!"

Must of been a bunch of rowdy men in a pack mentality.

I say that because if I were I man, I wouldn't want to tangle with my hubby.

Which is another reason I was so baffled about the situation. He definatley has that "air" about him that says if you look at me the wrong way I'll kick your butt. He is tall and muscular and like I said, he carries himself in a way that would make most think twice before ticking him off.

Heck, maybe these guys were just looking for a fight and didn't expect him back down. Which btw, was not easy for me to get him to do.

I never got hit on more then when I was pregnant. Maybe it was the glow, or the or the huge boobs, and I would even get hit on when my husband was around.

Though my husband wouldn't get mad, he would grin and give a thumbs up and say: hell yea I did that!

LMAO

Thread starter might be younger, because when you get older, you appreciate someone giving you cat calls.

The only thing I find strange about it is, has it ever really worked? Has a woman ever gone, ohh cat call, I am coming to talk to you!

But if a woman actually went up to them and asked what the # is their problem they would piss in their pants, in front of their friends.

Depends on what part of town you're in. I wouldn't count on somebody displaying this type of behavior to back down and do the right thing once they are called out. Usually when I ask a person doing something evil "Why do you believe it's okay to behave this way?" I am met with harsh words and sometimes threats. They turn me into the bad guy.

That happened to me too!!!! When pregnant with my first son, I actually had a borderline stalker! It got to the point that the security officers where I worked at the time had to escort him out of the building if he tried to get to my office.

What is that about??????

I'm certainly not old but, not a spring chicken either. I'm in my mid 30's. But, I've never actually felt comfortable with cat calls...even when I was in my 20's. I don't know if it's because I've always been a bit of a tom boy or what but, It has always made me uncomfortable.

Oh, and after reading the responses to this thread it does apparently work on some women....go figure.

In an earlier post I mentioned how this happened once before in front of my husband and when he confronted them, they tried to blame it on a little boy that was in the car with them. So, you are probably not far off in your assumption.

Controlling the physical energy you have as a result of the testosterone levels is probably the biggest challenge in being male rather than female. Sometimes I really do just want to punch somebody on the mouth but I have to use logic and I suppose intellect to override those feelings. Unless somebody is truly in danger, that is.

Yeah, I was wondering today if the reason some women hurt men is to get back at a society they deem is unfair. Maybe if feminism continues we can look forward to a world where women make more rational decisions about their love life?

----------

As for the whistling, most people I hang out with wouldn't do that - although during college if we were ridiculously wasted, we might have, but it would have been meant in a sarcastic manner, like a joke.

Someone with kids and a husband might make a good target because it would be even more ridiculous, I mean who would do that?

So if it were me and my friends, we would just be doing it to be friendly and funny and totally not expect to be taken seriously. But I can see other people having different reasons.

This is true. Most women have more emotional baggage than the Denver airport.

I let Skycap handle mine years ago

I'm getting to old to put up with all the aforementioned stuff in your post from women.

Your husband needs to relax. If someone were to hit on my girlfriend, that's one thing, but to just wolf whistle is nothing but a compliment to my taste. Those are my feelings, anyhow.

99.99% of the time cat calling is un-called for and childish.

.01% of the time it is done to get a ladies attention that is too far away to walk up to them to stop them so you can catch up...

Chill out!

This freaken mixed up PC society.

IMHO You could have just smiled and taken it as a compliment, that is how it was intended. But no, you want all men to act just like you want them to!

Your husband sounds like he is an idiot. Sorry, but let's see. He could have taken it as the greatest of compliments, as in 'yea guys, she's mine,' but no, he wants to go all neanderthal and take on 4 men at once.

It is in YOUR head how you take these things. Many women take it as a compliment. So, are you the odd one out? I can tell you, wanting to get smashed by 4 guys is not normal behaviour for your man..

partially due to societies modern child abuse laws
dad's get in too much trouble for beating kids that need it
i'm from an age that fear of dad's wrath instilled respect in me

just my take...beat me if ya want over it...surely some of you follow what i'm saying here even if in silence

but alot of kids now are very disrespectful and i know my dad would of turned them around if they started down wrong pathes early in life too

Fantastic!

I try to actually try and figure you guys out and I get the finger of blame pointed right back in my direction.

Just to paraphrase some of the replies....

"You should take it as a compliment"

"Enjoy it before you get too old"

"Your husband is an idiot"

"It was probably a joke"

"Many women like it so what's wrong with you"

If any of you bothered to read my original post, you would see that I started this thread with the utmost civility and genuine interest in trying to understand a behavior exhibited by "some" men.

I didn't come out of the gate labeling you all barbaric cavemen, morons, idiots...nothing of the kind. There was no malice or judgement in my questions.

I was simply trying to understand why a group of men would do what they did while I was in the company of my husband.

But, carry on as you will.......cavemen!

So anyone that disagrees with your premise is a caveman.

This is a forum, you asked for opinions, you are getting them.

Now you are upset because some of them are not to your liking.

Toughen up, princess.

Here is a fun quote from Louis CK about child abuse:

"I really think it's crazy that we hit our kids. It really is. Here's the crazy part about it. Kids are the only people in the world that you're allowed to hit. Do you realize that? They're the most vulnerable and they're the most destroyed by being hit, but it's totally OK to hit them. And they're the only ones! If you hit a dog, they f*****g will put you in jail for that s**t."

relax....it was in jest.

I have hardly held a firm stance that all men ....or any for that matter are cavemen.

I did ask for opinions and I read and responded to most of them.

Thanks for the advice, prince charming.
