NASA Study Finds Increasing Solar Trend That Can Change Climate

Since the late 1970s, the amount of solar radiation the sun emits, during times of quiet sunspot activity, has increased by nearly .05 percent per decade, according to a NASA funded study.

"This trend is important because, if sustained over many decades, it could cause significant climate change," said Richard Willson, a researcher affiliated with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Columbia University's Earth Institute, New York. He is the lead author of the study recently published in Geophysical Research Letters.

"Historical records of solar activity indicate that solar radiation has been increasing since the late 19th century. If a trend, comparable to the one found in this study, persisted throughout the 20th century, it would have provided a significant component of the global warming the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports to have occurred over the past 100 years," he said.

NASA's Earth Science Enterprise funded this research as part of its mission to understand and protect our home planet by studying the primary causes of climate variability, including trends in solar radiation that may be a factor in global climate change.

In this study, Willson, who is also Principal Investigator of NASA's ACRIM experiments, compiled a TSI record of over 24 years by carefully piecing together the overlapping records. In order to construct a long-term dataset, he needed to bridge a two-year gap (1989 to 1991) between ACRIM1 and ACRIM2. Both the Nimbus7/ERB and ERBS measurements overlapped the ACRIM 'gap.' Using Nimbus7/ERB results produced a 0.05 percent per decade upward trend between solar minima, while ERBS results produced no trend. Until this study, the cause of this difference, and hence the validity of the TSI trend, was uncertain. Willson has identified specific errors in the ERBS data responsible for the difference. The accurate long-term dataset, therefore, shows a significant positive trend (.05 percent per decade) in TSI between the solar minima of solar cycles 21 to 23 (1978 to present). This major finding may help climatologists to distinguish between solar and man-made influences on climate.

That study only covered 24 years, from 1978 until 2002, and in it Wilson found an increase in solar irradiance.

That study is not the only one that exists, other studies have concluded that the Sun has/had been more active in the last 80-100 years, if not more, than at any time in the last 1,000-1,500 years...

The above excerpt claims that the past 20 years the "number of sunspots has remained constant", but Wilson's research found that the total irradiance of the Sun had continued to increase during that time until the end of the research in 2002.

I have also posted other evidence in the past which shows the activity of the Sun has/had been increasing, and we know this for example because the strength of magnetic storms in the Sun has/had also been increasing even well after 2002 and at least until the end of 2005 to the beginning of 2006, at which time the Sun's activity slowed down to a crawl, and lo and behold the Earth's temperature dropped.

Several years ago when climate science revealed this was going to be a problem the overwhelming naysayers beat down the warnings. And now that things are beginning to look real and the disasters are compiling, some are beginning to pay attention.. However, it is simply too late in my opinion.. I think its time for preparing

First, the warmists outweigh the so called naysayers otherwise we would not have all the carbon tax etc. So that is score one wrong. If the warmists were beaten down explain the current situation where everything is based on climate change, whether correctly or not? The climate scientists said we would not know what snow was like yet now you say we are heading for an ice age. Score two wrong. The models were changed when the climate scientists realised they were wrong.

Fiddled figures and general fraud and wrong doing, and whether global warming is real or not and is man made or not, just how does a carbon tax prevent emissions? It does not. It is so obvious that the whole carbon credit scheme is a scam set up to extract money and has absolutely nothing whatsoever do do with saving the planet.

IF these people had ANY intention of saving the planet they would make available technologies that would assist in that way and NOT simply raise taxes and profits.

Nobody was proposing ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT to combat climate change. We had things like the "Kyoto Protocols" -- these are international agreements.

The New World Order is a very silly notion, since the Old World Order is very happy with ripping us off and having us fight with each other. One World Government would get in the way of causing civil wars, and selling each side weapons for cheap resources.

You have to go a LONG WAY to make pollution standards look bad -- while the conspiracy of Carbon Fuel energy companies is ever present, in our faces, and making quite a bit of money right now.

In essence, since you have skated over it, the point was that carbon tax and other carbon trading initiatives do nothing to eliminate or alleviate the problems.

I am not a moron. I have a very high IQ and am a member of a certain society for such people. I have sufficient educational certificates to refute your suggestion as well, and merely slating other members does absolutely nothing to bolster your arguments, even if you have misread the text.

You obviously have no idea how powerful the Sun is, like always, people like you think CO2 is more powerful than the Sun, and everything else...

I presented evidence that corroborates my statements. you obviously don't know that slight variations in the tilt of the Earth's axis, with respect to the SUN, can make it spring, summer, Autumn, or winter...

Without the SUN, you wouldn't have any of the seasons...
