For who's believing that the the end will fall at 21 December 2012 , there's bad news. The mayor of the French village at Bugarach is going to deny everyone who wants to stay in this village. And says to back off!

It says that this village is the only village that gives you the chance to survive the apocalypse, according to the Maya calendar.

Close to the village lays the Pic de Bugarach the holy mountain spoke about by Spielberg in the movie Close encounters of the third kind and a book of Jules verne journey to the center of the earth.

There's the believe that on 21 December 2012 Alien space ships will launch a mass escape force and rescue lots of people within this vicinity.

That is the reason for lots of people to be in this 200 counting villagers neighborhood. All the hotels are already booked in a radius of 30 miles.

The board in the region counts in that allot of new age fanatics and disaster tourists but mostly journalists will be there when the time comes.

But is it all worth to be dramatic about ,because the Maya association Oxlaljuj Ajpop in Guatemala were half of the Maya population descents from, says it will not be the end but great changes will happen and we become more aware of things around us.

Peace...

Wikipedia doesnt mention this place as a location they filmed the movie.

en.wikipedia.org...

Principal photography began on May 16, 1976. Spielberg did not want to do any location shooting because of his negative experience on Jaws and wanted to shoot Close Encounters entirely on sound stages, but eventually dropped the idea.[12] Filming took place in Burbank, California; Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming; two abandoned World War II airship hangars at the former Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Alabama; and the Louisville and Nashville Railroad depot in Bay Minette. The home where Barry was abducted is located outside the town of Fairhope, Alabama. Roy Neary's home is at Carlisle Drive East, Mobile, Alabama. The UFOs fly through the toll booth at the Vincent Thomas Bridge, San Pedro, California. The Gobi Desert sequence was photographed at the Dumont Dunes, California, and the Dharmsala-India exteriors were actually filmed at the small village of Hal near Khalapur 35 miles (56 km) outside Mumbai, India.[12]

I found this in searching for the Close Encounters reference. I love that movie and couldn't place this location in it for the life of me. This was an article written about the French village back in 2010.

A visit to Bugarach is said to have inspired Steven Spielberg in his film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” The locals will indeed confirm that they believe strongly that Spielberg in his search for an enigmatic mountain to host the finale of his movie considered Bugarach as a film location, but in the end opted for Devil’s Tower in Wyoming. His choice might seem quite logical, knowing that many locals report many enigmatic UFO sightings around the mountain – though few of these have been properly investigated.

Interesting and what a small world it really is? Now about this mayor... lol... I'd say they find themselves a new one after Dec. 21 comes and goes without the world ending. He may make his town a point of interest right now but on Dec. 22, it'll be a laughingstock. Who needs their own mayor doing that to them?

anyway, my prediction is it will be the end of the world but only for a handful of people. by their own hands unfortunately.

I don't know if you let yourself being consumed by the money, your credibility as mayor could be damaged ?

The mayor is finally responding to the complaints of the people who live in the village, and have been completely swamped with weirdos!

This has been going on for quite a while, the New Agers from everywhere have been squatting the place and the villagers have been livid. This is not a culture that is very capitalist- where some of us would be setting up shops with tiny spaceship souvenirs, the people here are just mad that their tranquil life is being ruined by people with spray painted vans who dance naked outside.

I have never heard before that Bugarach was the inspiration for Close Encounters though.
The myth is that there is a space ship hidden deep within the mountain and that it will emerge (and apparently take some people off the planet to save them).

Apparently there is big caverns and a very large underground lake in it, which stirs imagination, and it is said that the water that comes out of the natural springs has unaturally high levels of radioactivity.

The mountain myths are brought up again within the whole Rennes le Chateau (which is nearby) mystery, as it was said to be in the background of the Poussin tableau "Les Bergers D'Arcadie".

That I can understand, who wants a bunch of weirdos every season in and around your quiet village.. But the warning signs in the vids are they for real or photoshoped ? because I can also imagine if they are around it will draw attention to region , that something curious is going on ?

The signs that said, "WARNING Nonexistent Research Facility Use of Deadly Force Authorized"?

For one, did you read that carefully? It doesn't even make sense!

Two, this is in France- the people speak french and signs are in french.
