Google Stars lets you browse entire galaxy

This has to be one of the cooler things I've seen on the web:
workshop.chromeexperiments.com...

You can zoom in on a number of stars near the sun or zoom out and explore the milky way galaxy. Pretty sure you have to be using Chrome for it to work.

Great find OP!

I love to find interactive stuff like this for my kids... and this is pretty awesome.

BTW...it works with fine with Firefox

edit to add: This site eats up GOBS of RAM...slowed me to a standstill, but worth it

Yeah that is awesome stuff.
Was checking out all the other tech demo's they have on that site.
Some of the graphics on show is amazing. Just shows how far we have come.

OP.. I could hug you and make you a friend for life. If have never seen an Astronomy display SO effective and SO staggering in visual eye candy to explaining the Earth's place in the immediate neighborhood and the sheer scale of distances for how it really plays in a physical sense. It's really nifty eye candy regardless.....but after I zoomed to find myself looking at a big orange ball I kinda wondered WTF? ....then slowly...scrolled out from Sol and just lost my breath entirely. WOW...... Someone really outdid themselves by creating this and I'm just stunned.

You need a bucket of flags for this catch!

No. Every planet does not have to have Earth like atmosphere to sustain life. Unequivocally, the answer is NO. Think about how many billions of planets there are in the Universe. Are we really that intelligent if we think all of them are lifeless or that the ones that have life only use Earth like element formula’s to survive and thrive?
