Whether or not this 'grand bargain' is still the deal made through the WH and the GOP to divert the fiscal cliff were heading towards is yet to be seen. However there are several cutbacks which the WH is willing to slash in order to reduce the deficit over the next ten years.

"This is a confidential document, last offer the president -- the White House made last year to Speaker Boehner to try to reach this $4 trillion grand bargain. And it's long and it's tedious and it's got budget jargon in it. But what it shows is a willingness to cut all kinds of things, like TRICARE, which is the sacred health insurance program for the military, for military retirees; to cut Social Security; to cut Medicare. And there are some lines in there about, "We want to get tax rates down, not only for individuals but for businesses." So Obama and the White House were willing to go quite far."

They'll be put on Obamacare and have it paid for.

They will NEVER get rid of medical coverage for soldiers. Duh.

I have to say OP, after swallowing down the source...which is a point for another thread perhaps...if Obama had canned the rhetoric, dropped the campaigner and chief stuff back then and shown THIS to the American people to say 'Why won't Boehner sign THIS as a starting point toward the future??' I personally couldn't have found a reason not to back him on that point. Under the circumstances, I'd call that an actual start showing real purpose by how it does cut across a bit of everyone's sacred cow ....and that is what it will take too.

IF that's all really what was on the table and Obama WAS okay with that? I have a much better feeling about how things MAY go than I did before. That would show a willingness to be apolitical and just a bit ruthless in a way this problem doesn't leave a choice about. I just hadn't seen a thing to show he'd go that direction. Now, is it genuine?

It sure won't make a lot of people happy though...a little mad from all sides.

The problems are those cuts are menaingless that don't take in to account inflation, and age progression and the ever increase costs of healthcare.

Compound that stupidity with more taxation such as the carbon tax, and yet another payroll tax cut that shifts the burden to others that kill jobs.

But that payroll taxation is what funds SS and medicare meaning people are paying less but still getting more out from it.

It is all going to be pushed on those evil rich Washington offers no solutions it is nothing but a dog and pony show.

Nothing is free for military members. It's paid for in dedication, hard work, long hours, years of not being home nor with their families.
