'Stalking Cat' Daniel Avner found dead in 'suicide' after years of transforming

www .dailymail.co.uk

Dennis Avner, the Nevada man who spent years trying to morph his body into that of a cat has died. He was 54.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Avner underwent a series of radical body modification procedures to make himself look like a female cat, from whiskers and ears to a mechanical tail.

Avner's operations have included bifurcation (splitting) of his upper lip, surgical pointing of the ears, sillicone cheek and forehead implants, tooth filing, tattoos, and facial piercing.

I can remember when I first saw Dennis Avner on an episode of "Ripley's Believe It or Not".

I thought "wow, this guy must really like cats!". It wasn't till several years later that I learned that he had an Indian heritage and had been told (supposedly) after a discussion with a Native chief who told him he needed to 'follow the ways of the tiger.'

You have to keep in mind that when Mr. Avner first started to transform his body, Plastic surgery was still for the rich and famous and wasn't readily available (at the time).

Dennis, a native American, part Huron, part Lakota had spent more than $200.000 on plastic surgery to make himself look as a tiger.

He apparently must not have had any money when he died as I found a "GoFundMe" article by his brother asking for donations for the funeral.

I honestly don't see how anyone could do that to themselves.

What runs through their minds?

Good heavens, how sad. First of all, because he was obviously a troubled soul. Secondly, because he didn't even look like a cat, he looked...well, kind of monstrous. The term "Body Dysmorphic Disorder" doesn't even begin to cover this type of thing.

I hope he finds the peace in death that he couldn't seem to find in life.

RIP to Daniel Avner aka Catman !
why would he suicide one day just like that ..

i though it was his dream to transform into a cat
maybe he one day realised what he did to his body
and had a hard come back to reality when looking in the mirror ?

im curious to check for his birthday
to make connections at why was he obsessed with cats like that
it would explain a lot

even if he was crazy a little bit .. suicide is not the answer
it show that he was suffering of heavy depression even after accomplishing his dream
to become a cat like creature

btw .. whats with the green reptilian tattoo scale on his arm

200000$ for all the transformation
.. he ruined himself financialy and physicaly
thats a lot of wasted money

when people are starving in the streets ..
he could have done something great with that money if he didnt need it that much
like open a homeless shelters ..

How gruesome to feel the need to do such a thing and to look as he did. Very sad. May he R.I.P. I hope he is in a place now where he feels whole and able to just be himself.

At the risk of sounding insensitive he is by far the ugliest dude I have ever seen. I am all for personal expression and people doing what makes them happy, but dang bruh.

I too remember seeing him on Ripley's Believe it or Not. May he R.I.P. and his family not suffer much from his loss

Yeah, that guy was certifiable. I was told to follow the way of the wolf. I didn't take that to mean making myself look like one.

Sucks he was feeling low enough to off himself.

I saw him on Ripley's too once and thought it weird, yet kind of cool he did that.

I'm more familiar with the Leopard Man of Skye

But you have to say to yourself the reason why he did this: He believed it was a spirtual transformation and that he was a tiger.

And then you have Heidi Montag that got all the plastic surgery just to stay relevant.

I think he was attempting to be lizard man before he decided to be cat man. I mean that really, I seem to remember that from years and years ago but it could be someone totally different I am thinking of.

Maybe he was testing if he really was a cat....you know...9 lives and all...

Seems he only had 1 life....so he was still a human, not feline after all...

Cross species ?

the ancient "gods" did it ... so
maybe the ancient gods were plastic surgeons after all
people needed to pay them gold in the old times
now its printed papers that worth less then a coka cola empty can

if people wants to transform themself into some animals
at least in the old time the surgeons really pushed the limits
like inserting a hawk head on a human body

imagine if surgeons would be able to do that today lol
the streets would be pretty .. all cross species people walking around

I saw this the other day and it really made me sad for some reason.

All I have is one little itty bitty tattoo and it hurt like heck to get it. Image all the pain he went through to transform himself like that. Why suicide after going through all of that?

I still think it's really sad.

Very sad news.
The world will be a less interesting and colorful place without him.

I'd think his way of showing affinity to big cats must certainly have been a difficult lifestyle, but I still think it's better than keeping big cats as pets, which poses some real threats for humans and the animals.

Perhaps he'll reincarnate as a tiger, although the time for wild tigers may be running out.

Hmm.. Don't know about that, I'll do some more research (unless another member knows).

I do know that there are several that have the reptile tattoos including the "Lizard Man", is that who you were thinking of?

Sad news, in the resurrection all of his tattoos & surgeries will be gone, & during the Millennium big cats & tigers will be peaceful vegetarians that people can safely play with, I'm sure that will make him happy.
