Very little matters more to "liberals" than being cool, and enlightened. They believe it is enlightened to blindly support every Democrat, every time.
That would explain, then, why they were so quick to slag Obama after his lackluster first debate.

Democrats characterized that debate as a "win".

Critical thinking is not taught in school. Blindly believing what you are told to believe by education and the media is how the system maintains itself.
Obama is the culmination of 40 years of propaganda and nowadays the young, especially, are very easily susceptible to what is otherwise obvious propaganda.
Many came of age in a world where tyranny is normal(post 9-11) and where individualism and earned success are demonized.

People feel that they MUST be associated with a "winner"

Same thing with sports.. I.E.... bandwagon. That probably takes care of half of obamas supporters. Maybe half of the other half are just blindly loyal. So I don't know what the other 25% are thinking. Maybe half of the remaining 25% of support boils down to ignorance. And the last 12.5% of his supporters probably had an office pool they wanted to win.

What % does that total??

I'm going to try to answer the OP's two part question. I don't know if Obama is a twenty-first century socialist pied piper. He might be. However, the pied piper only led the children away after being ripped off by the leadership of the town. I find it a bad analogy.

Why do so many people follow him? I imagine quite a few follow him because he is the same race a them. Many have admitted to as much. Many I suppose follow him because they agree with his policies. The rest I imagine don't so much follow him as tolerate him due to the lack of an acceptable alternative presented by his opposition, as demonstrated in the most recent election.

Well, there was an election going on...one might expect a modicum of spin. Fact is that he got lots of flack from his own on phoning that one in.

President Obama and his team woke up here on Thursday morning confronted by the realization that he lost his first debate by passively letting Mitt Romney control the conversation. Then the president and his advisers resolved to do what he himself did not the night before.
Under fire from fellow Democrats, Mr. Obama came out swinging, accusing Mr. Romney of lying to the American people about his plans for the nation.

Oh that's perfect, man. Love the Obama logo at the end of the Pied Piper trail. I was just thinking that people who support Obama want to be misled.

I got it. Michelle Obama is a witch

I wouldn't say that exactly, but her mom is into voodoo and practiced it in the WH and that is fact. Obama carries a Hanuman talisman around with him apparently, but that is a character in the famous Hindu Epic Ramayana play. I'm not sure if Obama even knows that as I'm pretty sure he doesn't practice Hinduism.

People want FREE STUFF (obamaphone), people vote party rather than politics, and people vote skin color rather than character. When you have people calling you racist for not supporting Obama while at the very same time listening to a youtube clip of Snoop Dogg (or Lion, whatever) saying he's voting Obama because he's a black "*****", you tend to see the double edged sword that is stupidity that many, at least at the time, seem to ignore.

Well, hey, Fox News and the GOP have joined ATS now in conspiracy theories.

www.fox5vegas.com...

Back in 2008, I read that Obama was using mind control techniques, so manybe he really is a Pied Piper.

If the GOP and the right continue down the path of blaming there loss on the premise that people want free stuff instead of listening to the people who are the ones who voted against them and telling them different then in 2016 they should prepare to lose again. They need to stop lying to themselves and start listening or don’t I am sure the democrats would prefer that they stay exactly as they are.

You are correct when you said people voted skin color I know there were some but it went both ways both for and against.

I'm not saying the GOP lost because people wanted free stuff. The GOP lost because the GOP chose a losing horse from the start. The GOP needs to move away from the bible thumping, warmongering garbage and more towards we the people. But that doesn't change the fact that obamaphone lady voted because she got a free phone. It doesn't change the fact that Samuel L. Jackson voted for Obama because he's a racist. And it doesn't change the fact that some people are too stupid to understand politics so they just vote R or D.

Come into the light. I did research on the mythical obama cell phone. The program has been around for more than a decade. It is not supported by taxes, but by telecom companies. Kind of like when electricity companies wanted to hook up the whole country in the 20th century.

Very sad state of affairs to say the least, huh?

I've thought about the topic of this thread an wanted to revisit it , and given a few ounces of Holiday Spirits I've decided to try and fit The Pied Piper analogy a little better, but not with Obama as the Piper.

I think the more appropriate analogical character would be the Mayor of Hamelen. The rats could be, the financial crisis/economy from the start of his presidency. This would make the Piper the US deficit/debt . The refusal by the mayor to pay the Piper would make the victims the same as it is in the original story. Our children will of course be led by the Piper into an uncertain and possibly dangerous future because of those in power now refuse to address the need to pay the Piper.

In fairness, I suppose, the role of Mayor could be shared with ninety percent or more of those elected from either party.

Just some late nite musings.
