Analysis: Hamas finds cause to smile under Israeli assault

The Arab Spring has changed the Middle East, and Hamas has more powerful weapons.

Many Facebook pages express undisguised glee at Israelis scuttling for cover, and two singers from the West Bank have made a YouTube hit, "Strike Tel Aviv", praising Hamas and others for firing rockets that can threaten Tel Aviv and Jerusalem for the first time.

Hamas also scored a diplomatic hit, with solidarity visits last week by the foreign ministers of Egypt and Tunisia while its positions were under attack

If they have chemical weapons, then this is something new. unless you count white phosphorus as chemical weapons.

Nukes are a fair response to chemical weapons tbh

But Israel couldn't use them on their doorstep

White Phosphorus was used extensively in WW2 . There is no humane way to kill people . War is death to all involved and most especially to those not involved . Those rockets that comes from Gaza kill indiscriminately .

Not sure about the source, but if true, this could be Very Bad.

“Senior Libyan rebel “officers” sold Hizballah and Hamas thousands of chemical shells from the stocks of mustard and nerve gas that fell into rebel hands when they overran Muammar Qaddafi’s military facilities in and around Benghazi, debkafile’s exclusive military and intelligence sources report. Word of the capture touched off a scramble in Tehran and among the terrorist groups it sponsors to get hold of their first unconventional weapons.

According to our sources, the rebels offloaded at least 2,000 artillery shells carrying mustard gas and 1,200 nerve gas shells for cash payment amounting to several million dollars.

US and Israeli intelligence agencies have tracked the WMD consignments from eastern Libya as far as Sudan in convoys secured by Iranian agents and Hizballah and Hamas guards. They are not believed to have reached their destinations in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, apparently waiting for an opportunity to get their deadly freights through without the US or Israel attacking and destroying them. It is also not clear whether the shells and gases were assembled upon delivery or were travelling in separate containers. Our sources report that some of the poison gas may be intended not only for artillery use but also for drones which Hizballah recently acquired from Iran.

A slightly better source I think.

Hezbollah may be the militant organization in the region that could most effectively utilize Syrian chemical munitions. The group possesses a large inventory of artillery rockets, which could be used to deliver the type of barrage attack required for a successful chemical weapon attack. Rumors have been swirling around the region for many months that Libyan rebels sold some chemical munitions to Hezbollah and Hamas. While we have seen confirmed reports that man-portable air-defense systems and other Libyan weapons are being smuggled into Sinai en route to Gaza, there has been no confirmation that chemical rounds are being smuggled out of Libya.

So it looks like it's possible, but not confirmed.

If they do, then they got them from another country. I just don't see them being able to produce their own.

Quite possible, but wouldn't it be a suicide for Hamas to use chemical weapons on Tel Aviv? They would literaly be giving Israel an international go-ahead to level Gaza to the ground.

The rumor is that Libya sold them to Hamas, and transported them through Syria and Iran.

Oh, absolutely. Most countries have a standing policy of retaliating like for like. Although in this case, Israel would be insane to respond that way considering how close some of their cities are. But they would pull the gloves off and absolutely level Gaza, without giving a damn who was in the way.

Now that I come to think about it, for Hamas, this is all or nothing if IDF goes in. Hamas has the maximum of technical expertise and rocketry they will ever have, considering the territory and their relations with Iran/Egypt. This is their fight, to try and hold on until the UN vote perhaps? If IDF goes in, they are in for a fight to the death.

In a desperate attempt to escalate the conflict and thus drag Egypt/Hezbollah/Iran into the fight, they could see this as their endgame joker?

It's entirely possible, but the UN vote won't change anything. Israel will ignore it like they always have. The only change they have is if Egypt and other Arab nations come in. Israel won't have a choice but to almost ignore Hamas to concentrate on the bigger threats.

RT has FINALLY fixed their audio. If you have headphones on you can hear very nicely
Where the camera is pointed now, assuming it doesn't move, expect it to be bombed soon. Missiles were launched from there about 10 minutes ago.

Arafat grave being dug up to check for signs of radiation poisoning. This is not linked directly to the situation unfolding in gaza at the moment, but could feed into the conflict if it is proved arafat was murdered.

The officials say the work started Saturday and is to take up to two weeks. Arafat's remains are to be exhumed by French, Swiss and Russian investigators to check for a radioactive substance, polonium-210. The investigation came after a Swiss lab this year discovered traces of the deadly isotope on some of Arafat's clothes, sparking new suspicions he was poisoned.
