so then when Salmon Chase said

When, therefore, Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation. All the obligations of perpetual union, and all the guaranties of republican government in the Union, attached at once to the State. The act which consummated her admission into the Union was something more than a compact; it was the incorporation of a new member into the political body. And it was final. The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the States.

then he was just talking out his wazoo?

seems like you will have to move... Texas has taken control of it self twice before and not really that long ago. TX could easily be it's own country.

I've been wishing Texas could Secede for over 30 years.

When the US broke away from england weren't only about 1/4 of the population in favor of it?

Before every election I can remember including this one, there's always rich liberals saying, "if so and so gets elected, I'll move out of the country" lol. France is mentioned most often. A lot of them really did it, but not enough. So it seems like there's more liberals wanting to leave the country than conservitives.

Um, it is the Liberal Progressives that have bastardized the Country from what it was constructed as to what it is and where it is going.

Why not be a Liberal Progressive Socialist in a country that is already Liberal Progressive Socialist?

You can't just read a paragraph of a decision and think you're a constitutional scholar, that's just not how the legal system works.

I would say that push back is as symbolic a measure as are the secessions.

I don't think you need to scold anyone. They are both immature measure for measure and cancel each other out as was the intention in the first place. We are back to square one. I don't like you and you don't like me but how can we a find agreement and work together? I suggest a picnic. With beer.

I'm sorry but it was the Conservative Regressive, Oppressive Throwbacks to the early 50's who are bastardizing the country. People had enough of their back woods misogynist, science deprived insanity.

No matter how much we want to return to the 50's and stay there with a blanket over our heads we can't. It never was a Frank Capra world but people imagine it was. There are lots of things that are better and probably nearly as many things that have gotten worse. I could go on and name them all but it is pointless.

Here we are.

This is a different world.
Roll with it or be trampled in the rush.

Curiously, most members that demonized the occupy movement now resent anyone that questions this so-called secessionist movement. NOW it's about uniting, right? No more left-right paradigm? Funny how it is allbecause of romney's loss. The same people throwing the first amendment around now are the same that were hollering with joy as occupiers were beaten, maced and shot at with rubber bullets point blank.

Hypocrites.

This whole post just hits the nail right on the head. Everyone's so preoccupied with their team and their little team huddles they don't really care that the refs, coaches, owner of the league, are all getting paid off by some other entity.

Everyone who's disagreeing with this secession should just look what's going on in Washington... Do you really think you, or any of your beliefs have a chance against the rest of the country? Do you really want the government to enforce YOUR beliefs against other people? You know, if everyone had voted Libertarian and the states had their rights returned, none of this would even be happening right? You do know if you all had voted Libertarian, you might have just been allowed to vote for what you want to happen in your state. For example, those right-wing crazy people paradises, yeah, they'd exist. And all of you liberals would be stuck paying your own welfare, but that's beside the point. You'd have your social equality paradise, and everyone would end up happy.

> Texas now has over 90,000 signatures. It's only been like a week people, this may very well go somewhere.

After reading the heavily-biased article (and biased it is, from the looks of the "Sunshine Patriots" comment) I have to take a stand here.

This is a thinly veiled assault on liberals who are doing more to defend this country than the people petitioning to exclude themselves from it. In fact, I'd bet that liberals are not the majority of the citizens signing this new petition. Seriously, signing a petition to secede from the United States of America is an act of patriotism? What the hell?

I can bet if the situation were reversed, these so-called "Sunshine Patriots" would make such a retaliation look like child's play. Given the how eagerly these people welcome the ramifications of wide-spread secession, civil war would be the least of our concerns.

This article is a load of politically biased horse dung.

Excuse me? Are you implying that welfare is a standard for liberals? Need I remind you that it was a Republican who scoffed at the middle-class wanting their fair share of clothing, food, and homes?

Don't go there. Don't imply that liberals are a bunch of greedy little leeches. Just don't.

I agree, these petitions will not accomplish anything. The only problem I have with this whole thing is people are beginning to assume that 25,000 signatures speak for the 25 million peoe living in Texas.

I hate to turn this into a democrat/republican thread, but I have a feeling that if Romney had been elected these petitions would not have been made.

I can *almost* understand this, as lately everyone seems to take every little thing as a red-versus-blue argument. Especially those who were most arguing those positions prior to the election.

Maybe your assessment is correct, maybe it is not. However, I think it would be folly to assume that every subsequent signature on those petitions, or even most of them, come from disgruntled romney supporters. It's obvious that lots of people are just fed up with one thing or another regarding the federal system, regardless of who is president.

See how people fight against change? They fear the future. They fear a future they are not familiar with. Is that the kind of mentality we want to instill in our children? Is this the world we want our great great grandchildren to live in?

Obama has repeatedly stated that he strives for change. Romney repeatedly stated that tradition was his course. He's a southern conservative mama's boy born with a silver spoon up his rectum and absolutely no idea how to handle anything that doesn't involve money or popularity. He's only interested in stuff that helps him maintain the comfy lifestyle he has right now. Screw everyone else, because if the government and economy are all going to crash, he's gonna be the guy sneaking away with all the gold he can carry.

The choice was clear, and now the peoples' priorities are clear. Quite frankly, it disgusts me. Especially when, between a petition to secede from America and a petition to take anyone who wants to secede and give them a helping hand down that road, people are attacking the offer to help those who want to split from the States. Are we really the most intelligent life in the universe? Holy crap. Seriously, look at them. Look at US. The fear. The hostility. The ignorance.

We're coming awfully close to the day when we'll either grow or die. I'm having a hard time deciding which option to cheer for.

0.0002%. That is how much of the population gives a damn about the petition on whitehouse.gov

You are going to say that this country is on the brink of nazi censorship when this amount of the population happens to be trolling you, or actually presenting a different viewpoint?

Right.
