It is not about who won!
Everyday the federal government creeps more and more into our lives.
This is not the way it is supposed to be, according to the laws set forth by the people who created our great nation. And MOST Americans are not only compliant with this, but they applaud it!
This nation was founded on the beliefs that tyrannical government will always seek power, and that the citizens should always have the right to espouse it.

So please, don't turn this into a left/right thread. Turn it into an individual rights system of beliefs. If you love this country, as I do, it should be that simple.

And again, let me say that you can do WHATEVER you want. There are better ways of protesting than throwing a temper tantrum like a 14 year old threatening his parents that he's going to run away.

If you're going to stay and fight to keep this union together then good, I will fight alongside you. But if you sign a petition saying that you wish to break up this great union then no one is stopping from getting the hell out.

So please, spare us more of your empty threats of petitioning to secede and either get the hell out, or do something to change this country for the better.

just my 2 cents.

Another liberal with a tough looking avatar, once Obama and the left get a firm grip on this country you can give up that 'grip' you have on that gun (unless that's not you and you are using a REAL right-wing avatar!)
Don't come crying to us when you continue to lose your rights under your new leader!
Also, don't be a complete moron with statements about "Obama's areas in Texas" if a state did indeed succeed, places that voted for Obama in those states would have to go along with it or leave.
Why don't you get ready and pack right now... you know, just in case!

I don't get this thread. Who really gives two craps what a stupid 500+ people sign a petition on regardless of where.

Why are you giving such a stupid cause more attention than it deserves.

That being said, states cannot secede anymore anyways. It was part of the signing of the end of the civil war.

So it's moot regardless. the petition and this thread.

The bill of rights is only part of the constitution. People cherry pick what they want and ignore the rest.

technically, they are two separate documents, but that's not the point. if you are an american citizen, you should still be familiar with the constitution and bill of rights....how can you know if your rights are being violated, or removed, if you never knew what they were to begin with?

by the way, way to sidestep what i said...

You enjoy hyperbole and misinformation? Who says people like to be on welfare? What about going after the criminals rather than going after the victims? No one says people should be on welfare for extended periods of time unless they deserve to be via special cases. Capitalism creates welfare, because profit comes before jobs.

hyperbole, and misinformation seem to be your kick..

you said social responsibility...do you even know the meaning of that term?

it is the ideology that an organization should ta upon itself the mantle of responsibility to care for people...that's perpetual welfare and handouts...that's socialism.

Never said that.

actually, it's EXACTLY what you said. "if it's not in the constitution it can be changed later", meaning if you don't like what it says, it can always be changed to say something different...

explain to me why the first amendment is misconstrued to mean republicans get the most campaign money and democrats the second most campaign money? explain to me why money should even be considered freedom of speech.

because of a bull# little thing called "corporate personhood" which is wrong, and should be done away with immediately. currency is not speech, never has been, still isn't, and never will be. corrupt people with no respect for the law believe it is, but they're as wrong as the fed saying gold isn't money...

what about the ucc? do you support all those thousands of codes?

not familiar with it.

are you another conservative hypocrite? I neither fully accept nor fully reject the constitution. There are parts I agree with and parts I disagree with. It is an old document that has its faults. It is still important though, obviously!

the only label i attribute to myself is common sense..

i find it funny how far down the tubes discourse has gone over the years....nowadays, instead of actually debating a point with someone, they immediately go for the mud slinging, and branding with labels, in a pathetic attempt to discredit their opponent with what amounts to name-calling. everyone thinks their club is the best, and if you disagree, then you're a poopie-head.....it would seem that nearly nobody has mentally progressed past the 5th grade in at least a couple of generations..

as to the constitution and bill of rights; i don't really see much, if anything at all wrong with it....was it you who said you wanted to see a limited version of the 2nd amendment?

seccession is not a bad idea if things keep getting worse. I just find it ironic in a pathetic and distorted way that it has become a tool of threat whenever people do not get their way.

it's not so much a matter of people not getting their way, i think it's more a matter of the awakened, angry citizenry being tired of seeing their homeland being turned more and more into a police state, and having to deal with the consequences of yet another "election" courtesy of big banks, big corps, diebold (and other election fraud machine manufacturers), and the powers that be...

this isn't a tantrum, people are genuinely pissed, and if you were paying attention, you'd understand why..

That was the quickest derailling of a thread I've seen. 1st reply. Well done.

This thread isn't about seceding, it's about whitehouse.gov petitioning to strip citizenship of those that signed - which is a wee bit more disturbing than the pipe dream of secession.

Am I the only one that's seeing this??

Big deal about Texas and 25k signatures out of 25 million people. btw I'm on my way to sign the petition in the op.

The most important people involved in our national security are watching Americans get shot at and killed and did absolutely nothing about it.

An American drone reportedly sent the State Department situation room real time footage of the jihadist assault. As State Department officials watched the bloody, clearly pre-planned and well organized attack unfold, our Commander in Chief refused to take action.

Obama called Ambassador Stephens a friend but he refused to help his friend and instead sentenced him to death. How can anyone believe [Obama] will help America!

Other new information reveals that over 400 people (involved in our national security) watched live as our Consulate was under attack. This drone video ran for seven hours. One of our American security officers was using a laser designator to point out specific targets pleading for back up support only to be repeatedly denied

This just proves how crazy conservatives are. Just because your candidate didn't win, you run around like chicken little yelling "the sky is falling, the sky is falling." Now you want to Secede from the union?
It's crazy and impulsive ideas like this, is why you lost the election and why the republican party is losing support.

Yes you are.

Who cares. It's user driven. Why do you think pot petitions have been #1 on that site when obviously our DEA has enforced those laws 10 fold.

Unless its racist or violent, it will stay up regardless of the topic.

It's not news either, it's been like this for 4 years.

They don't need to sucede.

There are already provisions in the US Bill of Rights that if the people feel that the Government isn't working for the people anymore then they have the right to overthrow said Government.

See my signature.

That may be true, but can you imagine a bunch of people with guns going up against the world's most powerful military force? I sure as hell hope it doesn't happen in my lifetime, as any degree of length to such a civil war would mean the total collapse of the US economy and means of production, as well as hundreds of tousands, if not millions dead. No thanks.

I applaud people for going about the idea of peaceful secession, I just don't think they've thought it through, and I think their new nation would collapse horribly, and all of its citizens would suffer greatly.a lot of people have the false notion that things are bad here - they're wrong. While the economy isn't the sparkling tower of crystal it once was, and the federal government (amd many state and locals) overstep their bounds to the Nth degree, starting out a new nation would be BRUTAL.
Further, they seem to think they're just going to take their federal highways and other federally-created infrastructure with them. If they were a tax-positive state, that might be reasonable, but we're talking about states which have been absorbing federal tax dollars far, far faster than they put them in.

There's 25.5 million people in Texas.

Out of those 25.5 million, 13.5 million are registered voters.

Of those 13.5 million, around 60%, or nearly 8 million voted.

Out of those 8 million, 4.5 million voted for Romney, 3.3 million for Obama, and 88 thousand for Johnson.

Let's be generous and say that every Romney voter and every Johnson voter is now in favor of secession. But let's say also say that everyone who voted for Obama is against secession, because they support the way the country and their state is being run.

Let's say that out of the 5.5 million voters who didn't vote, let's say it's split 3.5 million in favor of secession (hypothetically, their lack of voting was a protest against the unfair system) and 2 million against secession.

That brings, out of registered voters, 5.3 million oppose secession and 8 million favor secession.

That still leaves 12 million unregistered voters. Where do they stand on secession? We can guess that some of them aren't registered because of principle; maybe they refuse to participate in a rigged system. Maybe they disagree with all the candidates.

But what's closer to the truth is that the unregistered are more likely to be apolitical. And do you really think apolitical folks are going to hitch their apple wagons to something as revolutionary as secession?

Maybe some of them will. Maybe 1/4 of them will; that's 3 million. Not too shabby. But what if the other 9 million oppose secession because they don't like such a historical upset in their daily lives?

Now the anti-secessionists skyrocket to 14.3 million and the pro-secessionists stand at 11 million. Not to mention the anti-secessionists will have the backing of the entire federal government.

Also, remember that I'm being grossly optimistic by giving that every Romney and Johnson voter will be for secession. In reality only a fraction of them will be.

The whole point of this math exercise is to show that your statement, "Also, don't be a complete moron with statements about "Obama's areas in Texas" if a state did indeed succeed, places that voted for Obama in those states would have to go along with it or leave. Why don't you get ready and pack right now... you know, just in case!" is rather wrong. If anyone's going to have trouble with secession, it's going to be the secessionists, because there are far more people in Texas who don't want to secede than who do.

Anyways, this is all just a thought exercise because Texas isn't going to secede nor will there be a civil war. Sit down, shut up, and wait out these 4 years of Obama. No state is going anywhere.

You guys...

States can not secede whether you like it or not.

The civil war ensured this.

Read up on it. I'd post legal proof but I'm on my phone.

It was part of the signing when the south lost the war.

Simple as that.

A state could try I suppose and declare war on the government.

Have fun fighting the army as the government takes back its land.

I sound like a pro gov vs state supporter, I'm not, just telling you what would obviously happen.
