Four years and no agreement on what the priorities are.

Get it straight.

It seems that staying solvent so we can work towards priorities would be THE priority.

Staying solvent is a very broad goal. The finer point of the question is how?
What is the right way to go about it? What are the implications and who suffers?
Is that suffering acceptable considering the return or is it acceptable at all?

Priorities need to be determined before you can tackle the issue.

I thought it was common sense NOT to spend more than one makes.

But what if you get sick?

Should you allow yourself to die because you cannot pay for your recovery?

By your logic, you really have no other choice.

I wasn't talking about getting sick, where did that come from? And dying? You lost me there....
[never known any one to die without health care ins. if that's what you are referring to]

I was just using this as an example for the gov.....

If I can't make my payment for say the truck, the bank gets it.
If I can't make payments on my house, it gets foreclosed.
If I can't pay my phone bill, it gets turned off.

I'm just saying if all the monthly bills exceed the monthly income, some one is clearly not doing their math correctly. Which in turn, some thing needs to be done to fix the budget......

I was merely pointing out how the government abuses their power and spends, spends, spends with no penalty what so ever... all they do is point fingers blaming the other guy.

Me & you can't do that... if we don't keep up the payments, we loose it and it shows up on our credit.
So they need to get their act in order, all of them, Rep./Dems alike and the president.

That's all I was referring to about the gov......stop excess spending until they come to a solution.
Just because they can keep printing money doesn't mean that they should......

No budget that will accomplish anything will get done. There is simply no way to get close to balancing the budget without collapsing the economy, and they will not do that voluntarily. I do think the spineless weasels will come to a compromise that will result in less cuts than the mandatory ones, because they will do anything to avoid telling the public the truth.

Many seem to believe there is a way to fix our budget without collapse, they are wrong. We are at least 3 years past being able to accomplish that.

Cutting spending reduces jobs, raising taxes reduces jobs, doing nothing will reduce jobs, printing money will destroy the dollar and reduce jobs. There is NO Way out other than a massive debt default, which means a depression. Things are going to have to get much worse before they can get better,
