"Nowadays we have a fleet of spacecraft orbiting around the earth and indeed the sun, which can produce artificial eclipses," he said. Read more: www.news.com.au...

Indeed the sun.....

Bad journalism, slip of the tongue?

Dr Stuart Ryder, from the Australian Astronomical Observatory, will also be heading to Palm Cove for the eclipse. Read more: www.news.com.au...

The good doctor has just let the cat out of the bag. He does not realize that there are a lot of people who will look at his words and go.... told you so.

Will he get into trouble for revealing what has been posted on this site so many times?

Will his words be taken out of context?

With so much going on at the moment, this could just be a mistake. Though it seems pretty clear in his words.

He says there are spaceships orbiting the sun that can cause artificial eclipse.

He may have been not quite the full esky when he was said this.

Perhaps already on the way to the bottle shop?

um...This is ATS...Out of context? Nah...

But, good catch on your part and I am now a little more than curious as to what comes of this.

Peace

Maybe all his dogs are not barking, maybe he is a few stubbies short of a six pack.

Either way, unless he is flat out lying or the journalism is so bad, which might be the case, considering they reported it to be on Friday, which is not the 14th, then if he had a few under his belt and let it slip, then maybe there really are spaceships orbiting the sun causing artificial eclipses.

Maybe, this is the start of a dis info campaign.

Maybe is it fact.

He's talking about spacecraft like SOHO, STEREO and SDO.

The "artificial eclipses" he is talking about are the disks mounted on the satellites to block the sun so the corona can be seen.

Ok, that does make a little more sense but I'm curious about the term "Fleet"...?

Would this be an appropriate term?

Peace

So, a few ship's are orbiting the sun doing test of corona and crap... what's the problem with that?

I think those three ships ARE the fleet i guess.

You know, you are probably right on this, but the average person reading this would not know about Soho, or Stereo. Least of all being able to see it from the ground, unaided.

Is the average Aussie punter able to distinguish between Soho and spaceships orbiting the sun?

So I am calling bad journalism, which is no surprise or dis info to appease the masses.

Where did "fleet" come from?

I only read spaceships in the plural.

Are they now a fleet?

Things happen pretty quick around here....

There is a sizable fleet of satellites observing the sun and it's effects.

SDO
STEREO
SOHO
GOES
TRACE
RHESSI
SORCE
Hinode
Yohkoh
etc etc

He said spaceCRAFT, not spaceSHIPS. Craft can very well mean unmanned probes and satellites I think.

Or maybe the man had a poor choice of words. Poor scientists a slip of the tongue and no one believe it was a "Poor choice of words"

Never Mind fleet is definitely the right term from what i saw from chadwickus.

The quote does lack context.

Perhaps he just assumes people will know what he's talking about.

Definitely referring to satellites or the like which is probably why he said "we have" as opposed to "there is." Using "we have" implies that the craft are of human origins.
