i like remote controlled cars and planes boats ect,
but imagine a remote controlled mars rover?

or a snow mobile rover on an ice moon?

why is real time control so difficult? (outside of the massive distance and shifting position due to orbits)
it turns out the "terrestrial internet does not work well at interplanetary distances"

www.theverge.com...

NASA and the European Space Agency have controlled a LEGO robot on Earth from the International Space Station using an experimental "interplanetary internet" system. The Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) protocol has been specifically developed to facilitate communications in high latency environments like space, and has successfully transmitted data between Earth and space in the past. The LEGO experiment was the most advanced demonstration of its capabilities yet, though, and was supposed to simulate an astronaut controlling a actual robotic rover on the surface of other planets.

space net lol
how cool would it be to have a remote control rovers on the moon racing each other ?
i wonder if full time link could be provided for mars, and fly drones through the atmosphere?

robot wars on io

Cool I guess it would be like playing counterstrike in 2001 on a 56k modem
.
Hhhhm wonder if they need an operator?

dedicated bandwidth and 1,000,000 ping lol,
i know what that like
UT

do you think they would allow us to conduct and rebroadcast "remote racers" from mars
lol

that would get a few hits

with the recent news of their plan to build a manned station on the moon to serve as a way point between earth and other locations, this inter(galactic)net makes sense.

dibs on setting up the first IGN video chat sites.

wicked money to be made on interstellar porn.

this is awesome. the children of sudan will definately be saved now. thank you nasa

thing is, with the limitation of light speed, even if we had perfect net it would still take an hour for do something, say at mars, and see the reaction.

what do you want..the children of sudan holding us back from all the benefits this interstellar net will bring...are you sure you understood the concept of all this?

Cool video... makes me think of all the possibilities. Imagine in the future if we start communicating with extraterrestrial species and we find out there is some sort of galactic internet which exploits quantum entanglement properties to transfer information over massive distances in an instant. Oh wow imagine if they had something like bitcoin... a universal P2P digital currency.

Ansibles?

en.wikipedia.org...

Nice...but frightening, because I still feel as if there is something or another not being told to us.

have the contestants orbiting mars for real time control and rebroadcast "live" (delay) to earth,

id imagine the networks could rake in enough to pay for some of the tech
lol

This is cool, is it just me or are they working on disclosure?

i think at that point they would consider knowledge of our species to be more valuable than a dollar bit coin?
or at least have bit coins with 10/32 bits lol

are you suggesting to leave the "channel open" for contact purposes? an open network

sorry but i cant see how this thing will solve the lag between solar systems..this will not by any means shorten the distance..its benefiting more IMO the amount of data transferred and the quality of the data received and it will prevent also data loss

but distance i cant see it will still be a problem

if thats the case i got moon racers and mars drone wars rights lol

should you write a intergalactic porn protocol? for efficient porn handling?

i knda think this is quite a big deal,
more real time control increases our ability to conduct science,

also imagine really big trucks racing across mars

or a remote control "sand worm"

im pretty sure its going to be robot wars,
or the space porn thing

could be about the advance in an internet style latency prediction and mitigation protocals,
for handling intermittent network conditions in a more fault tolerant manner

Probably who knows. I was just saying it would be cool if there was some sort of universal electronic currency. The way bitcoin works is perfect for a universal currency, because it's not controlled by any central authority, it's managed in a P2P way... the security of the system is upheld by advanced cryptography and so the human trust factor is totally eliminated. In a universal context, where all the species have no reason to trust each other, a currency like that is perfect. It would allow easy trade between any species, because everyone with access to the universal internet would understand the value of that currency and they only need to trust in the code behind the system, which would be completely open source like Bitcoin.

this could remove the need for massive antennas/dishes,
you could just piggy back signals for controls ect from the space net into much smaller probes,

unmanned space plane races around the moon
