Benghazi A Failed Rescue Attempt?

Title is probably a little off or misleading, but my stepdad, who is in no way a conspiracy theorist and spent 16 years in the Navy, was talking to me this morning about the whole thing and he basically said from everything he knows and can tell it looks like this was a set-up to rescue the ambassador and make Obama look good, but they weren't expecting two SEAL's to be there so when they told them to stand down, they didn't comply because that's not what SEAL's do and it messed the whole thing up because one of the SEAL's had already put a laser down for a strike.

Might have been a rescue attempt, but I don't see that as Obama's style.
More likely they didn't want a rescue at all they wanted to negotiate and free them in that way making Obama look even better.
