Well it looks like Petraus won't be testifying before congress after all. If for one minute you think that reason he resigned was because of an extra-marital affair; you can't see beyond your own prejudices. Most people in DC screw around. Whether it is with an intern, staffer, or a hooker. Some of them are even in the closet.

Anyway....

The resignation of CIA Director David Petraeus came less than a week before he was scheduled to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on the Sept. 11 attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

A spokesman for the committee said acting CIA Director Mike Morell would testify Thursday in place of Petraeus, who resigned Friday after admitting to an extramarital affair.

Petraeus was among a host of intelligence officials who were on tap to appear at the closed hearing, including James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, and Matthew Olsen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center. The hearing is the second to be held by the Senate panel on the attacks that killed Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and three diplomatic aides.

Petraeus has won plaudits from both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill, sailing through Senate confirmation on a 94-0 vote in June 2011. Top lawmakers expressed regret at Petraeus’s resignation in statements Friday.

this shouldn't be allowed considering he was the head of the CIA at the time he should still be questioned regardless of his employment now with the company. I really cant believe they can pull this kind of crap and the sheep do nothing about it! We should be burning down capital buildings over this crap and hounding the press, following Petraus around calling him a murderer.

Well ain't that a surprise. Just when Petraeus going to burn Obama's ass by delivering a damning testimony that would surely get our son of a russian socialist Frank Marshall president impeached, the man holding all the bananas just happens to resign.

Smells like someone threatened him, and probably his family too to keep him nice'n'quiet.

If he was slated to testify, the only excuse for not doing so, should be because he is dead or in a coma. Anything else is just slimy politics. If you are a witness to a murder, you can't just move to another town and bye-bye courtroom.

Ho, leee, shnickeys...

This right here is certainly interesting... It's all over the news, about Petraeus stepping down, due to "Extra-Marital" affairs, and I didn't even realize the connection at first. I've even read the threads regarding Benghazi, and it didn't click. I need to lay off the tooth paste ha ha.

I say this often and I will keep saying it.

What country did you think you were living in???

The USA that you were told about in grade school doesn't and never has existed.

It was all a sham.

I am glad that people are starting to realize this but I am also shocked at how........SHOCKED people continue to be.

My, my.
How suprisingly convenient.

I wouldn't doubt that it is an affair that is being used to blackmail him into retirement.

He's just beat them to the punch and put it out instead of letting himself be leveraged and then outed later.

Conjecture?
Yes.
True?
Probably.

Seriously?? You think the POTUS micromanages every freakin move this government makes. He has advisers, aids, and directors for that. The foreign policy of the US does not change after an election. There are lifers at the DOD, State, CIA, and they are responsible for their duties.

We don't know what went down in Benghazi, or for reals, what the hell was that "diplomatic mission". Libya is a clusterf$#@ and ungovernable. That is what happens when you destabilize a sovereign country with militant Islamists. The whole fiasco is blowing up in their faces. Why do you think they are on the big re-think in Syria right now?? You think it is a coincidence???? The US is publicly retracting their support for the FSA and the SNA. It is because the machine they have created has turned against them.

Something went down in Benghazi, something real dirty. And all our spooks were involved. We will never know the why.

My my, this really stinks. The stench is almost unbearable! I don't know what to do anymore. I know they are counting on people like us to just throw up our hands and walk away. I don't know what can be done anymore.

You can bet FoxNews won't let go. They've been screaming about Benghazi since day one and haven't let up. I, for once, think this is a good thing and hope they can get more breaking information out of this.

Let's just hope this doesn't happen and Petraeus stays alive. There are so many 'suicides' after scandals like this.

Yes, I don't wish the man dead. But apparently he will not testify anyway. That is my point. It is a travesty of justice that he can just step down, and no longer be called to testify. That is what I meant by 'death or coma.' Those should be the only excuses. Apparently they are not.

Well, Fox News reported earlier that Petraeus was 'looking forward to testifying' so something is wrong here. I believe the administration didn't want him telling the truth about Benghazi. It's possible they can subpoena him or that he will suddenly decide to. I am just concerned something will 'happen' to him before this.

If congress allows another man to testify on his behalf...... Well, I don't know what to say. A normal citizen would not be able to get out of testifying by stepping down and allowing someone else to take their job. This totally reeks, I am hoping congress does the right thing here and squashes this blatant attempt at a miscarriage of justice.

Predicting it now. Mike Morell says he doesn't know anything about what went on because it was all Petraeus. The end result is the whole thing remains hidden.

Oh, I see what you're saying. Then we are on the same page. I thought the same thing earlier today... that they did not want him to testify, and perhaps forced him out of his position (although that, as I said earlier, should not prevent him from testifying. Nothing should!!!)

BS, its because obama cant use presidential powers to get this one out of trouble because it will look suspicious, so hell have to step down and probably take a nice hush hush under the table package deal as retirement. or most likely hell be asked to be on some board of directors and make millions "advising".

This is getting ridiculous. Are the American people just going to idly stand by yet again, as the government is obviously involved in a massive criminal cover up? This can't get swept under the rug, people need to start getting angry and stand up to these thugs. What are we to do? These people don't investigate themselves, they don't prosecute themselves, nobody ever gets punished in the elitist class. And all of this is happening simply because we allow it to happen.
