There's more to the story, as noted below:
The collapse of the dazzling career of CIA Director David H. Petraeus was triggered when a woman with whom he was having an affair sent threatening e-mails to another woman close to him, according to three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the episode.
The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said.
E-Mail threats from Broadwell?

The hypocrisy on this site is unbelievable sometimes. If he had covered the affair up, and kept going as the Director, and it was found out a year or 2 down the track he had had the affair, everyone would be screaming to the high heavens "ZOMG COVER UP! SEE! THE GOVERNMENT CAN'T BE TRUSTED!!!!111111ONEONEONE"
He comes out saying he has had an affair, and is stepping down - wisely too, because of the security reasons, and people are still screaming "ZOMG CONSPIRACY! THEY CAN'T BE TRUSTED!!!!"

In keeping with an earlier post (above) we would do well to ask the next logical question "Did Israel draw David Petraeus into a standard Mossad "honey trap" ala Eliot Spitzer and others? We do know that Petraeus leaked emails about Israel and its become recent news fare that former AIPAC newsletter editor Wolf Blitzer and neocon (Bush) advocate Fran Townsend both endorse Jane Harman as the next CIA Director as a replacement for Petraeus, which causes me to wonder if General Petraeus was honey trapped by the Israelis and/or AIPAC to get him replaced by an Israel first-er like Jane Harmon after he conveyed (in his own peculiar way) that US support for Israel was a threat to US troops.
Three simple nouns that can only partially describe the complexity of Paula Kranz, 1991 CHS graduate. In high school, Paula excelled in the classroom and beyond, fulfilling a variety of leadership roles from homecoming queen to CHS and state student council president, from all-state basketball player to orchestra concert mistress, from AAU-Mars Milky Way All-American to valedictorian.
This passion directed toward excellence and a well-rounded education served Paula well as she advanced to West Point where she earned Dean's List status and the honor of Class Secretary, all while graduating number one physically in her class. With a degree in Political Geography and Systems Engineering, Paula pursued a military intelligence career abroad, serving in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
During her service, especially after 9-11, Paula's intensity was directed toward the war against terror; her contributions and efforts to thwart terrorism have been commended by the U.S. Army and by Europe's Special Operations Forces Commanding General. In this arena, she has planned counter-terrorism initiatives presented to NATO and worked on transnational counter-terrorism issues with foreign and domestic agencies, U.S. Special Forces, and the FBI.
As her experiences expanded, she entered the University of Denver to pursue a dual masters degree in International Security and Conflict Resolution. Graduate level scholarships in Arabic and Middle East studies led her abroad to Jordan and Israel where she also spoke at various conferences in the Persian Gulf, as well as Europe.
As an aspiring foreign and defense policy analyst, Paula was offered a full doctoral scholarship and a fellowship from Harvard University for study in Syria and Iran. Even though she has received many accolades, Paula still feels her whole life is in front of her - a life that is filled with strategic planning as well as raising a family and pursuing her hobbies and interests, a life directed by passion, intensity and vision .
"Paula's enviable work habits and relentless approach to curricular and co-curricular activities at Century High School provided her the foundation to fulfill life-long dreams ."
Wow... so after spending months investigating it, according to the Washington Post the FBI decided that the most appropriate time to go to James R. Clapper, Jr., Director of National Intelligence and tell him about the affair was at about 5 PM on election day.

Yes, you see something weird, I see something weird.... a lot of people see something weird.
But secret squirrel says that we are hypocrites.
Paula Broadwell is a research associate at Harvard University’s Center for Public Leadership and a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London.
She spent much of the past year in Afghanistan as an embedded author, extending her doctoral dissertation on transformational leadership and organizational innovation based on the career of U.S. Army General David Petraeus. The result is Paula’s highly anticipated portrait of Petraeus as commander and her chronicle of the Afghan war—All In: The Education of General David Petraeus. [she gets to do her dissertation interviewing Petraeus. Nothing suspicious there. ]
Paula’s passion for leadership and security policy stems from her background in the U.S. military and her academic pursuits.
She graduated with academic, fitness, and leadership honors from the United States Military Academy at West Point. She has lived, worked, or traveled in more than 60 countries during more than fifteen years of military service and work in geopolitical analysis and counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations. Her extreme physical prowess and athleticism was notable and allowed her to graduate as the top female physical student at West Point.
She has served with the U.S. intelligence community, U.S. Special Operations Command, and FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces. Paula earned an M.A. with honors from the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies and an MPA degree from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
She previously wrote for the Kings of War and Foreign Policy’s Best Defense blogs, and she has published op-eds in The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, and The Boston Globe. She has also written chapters in books on counterinsurgency, transformational leadership, and women in defense, and has contributed to national TV networks, BBC radio, and NPR on similar topics.
Drawing upon her experience within the military and study of transformational leadership, Paula explains Petraeus’s thoughts on strategic leadership and provides inspirational anecdotes and insights for anyone—from CEOs to young lieutenants to women in conflict zones—facing leadership challenges in their respective fields.

I don't buy this for a moment. The election is done and Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder, and now Patraeus are all resigning and why does Patraeus come out and volunteer that its due to an affair and why resign at all over an affair in an administration and party which celebrates lies and infidelity (anyone Remember Hillary's husband)?

Frances Townsend, a former senior US government security official and now a member of the CIA Advisory Committee, said: ‘Whenever the FBI opens an investigation of a senior official they have to make notification of that, especially if there is an intelligence concern. It is hard to believe the White House did not know about this prior to the election.’
The source added: ‘This could be another Watergate situation where it is not the event that brings down the president but the cover-up.’

The media has a delicate balancing act to play in, on the one hand, sensitizing the public to the gravity of the terror threat, and, on the other, not doing terrorists' work for them by scaring the public to death. How are they doing?

I wondered if Paula Broadwell was Jewish mainly as a result of my previous remarks pointing to Mossad involvement in this sordid affair wherein I stated - without so much as a hint of anti-semitism btw - that I was concerned to know if there really is a valid reason to pursue my 'intuition' with respect to the possibility of Mossad's hand in all this. I also made note of the fact that her book, "All In: The Education of General David Petraeus," was co-authored with Vernon Loeb a known Zionist with an unsavory journalistic reputation.
If there is anything to this at all then it might be possible to think of Paula Broadwell as a Sayanim = Sayan; Hebrew: helpers, assistants and refers to Diaspora Jews who provide assistance to the Mossad. They are in America by the many thousands - operating in secret. Wiki deleted the entire Sayanim page recently.

Passion. Intensity. Vision.
One of her high school teachers review of her is rather commendable and somewhat revealing in the broader context of our ongoing discussion here on ATS:
