Why is it everyone jumps on communism as an ultimate bad form of government right off the bat. All systems can be corrupt, and I noticed something a little funny here.. Why does the OP mention Kruschev? Russia isn't communist anymore....

urbanlegends.about.com...

OP needs a reality check.

We're not creeping towards communism.

the only thing your link provides Is 3 different accounts that he said the quote and the date is wrong. The author then jumped to the conclusion that he “might” have never said it.

Dis info check

There is no evidence that he ever said it - none at all, just a bunch of right wing demagogues repeating bull# they heard from other rightwing demagogues. It's a bull# quote deliberately fabricated by right wing hacks to fool people like you. They have an easy job, unfortunately.

Romney would have favored the rich at expense of the many which was what the USSR was about. He doesn't need to make government bigger to do so all he had to do is give more breaks to the rich. which is what he was all about.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I was raised, most likely the same way you were, to fear the Soviets and Communists.
Then I grew up, and actually met some folks who came from over there.
One had to escape and hated it.
The other was sent here, and loved it there even more then here.

First off, the Soviet Union was not really “Communist” in any way shape or form. Secondly, all the propaganda that we were fed about over there really related to two issues, neither of which had anything to do with either socialism or communism. What they really related to was the perceived poverty levels, and the police state tactics used by the USSR.

In relation to those, I have been told by folks who actually lived there, that it was greatly exaggerated by our government as part of their anti-communist propaganda. Over there, you were educated, then given a job. You do well at that job and you move up the ladder, you do bad and you get fired. If you get fired from three jobs, you better have family to fall back on because your SOL. If you wanted to have some of the nicer things in life, you could work hard and earn them, or you could work more then one job if you desired, just like over here.

Now its true that some things were harder to get over there. That however makes perfect sense when you think about it. What type of system attracts the greed ridden corporations and banks? Would they want to do business in a society where they had to fairly share their profits, and treat their employees fairly, or where they could maximize lining their own greedy pockets? Of course greed always wins out, and so they came to where all the rules were in favor of them keeping most of the profit generated by their employees hard work to themselves. So many of the nice things that the wealth and manufacturing that those banks and corporations provided were unavailable to them.

As far as the Police State tactics are concerned, you have just as much to fear over here ATM with the new Real ID's, Patriot Act, torture, and such as they ever did over there. Police States can exist under ANY form of government, as we are learning now. We always considered that it would never happen in a Democracy as no one would allow it to be voted in, but what folks are waking up too is that this is no more a “real” democracy, then Russia was a “real” communism. The US is a Capitalist Oligarchical Republic. All that it took to scare folks into accepting a police state was one attack by radicals on US soil.

Anyway...
I've said it on here a thousand times before, but a true communism only exists where a community has to put the community itself first for survival (such as a tribe), or in a place where a “higher calling” overrides peoples tendency for greed (such as a religious commune).

Christ would have been considered a communist by today’s standards.
The society show in Star trek is actually communist.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

BECAUSE we have a constitution that says defense IS the responsibility of the government but healthcare is NOT.
welfare is NOT. Education is NOT. Most of the crap the government does is NOT their purpose.
Our constitution has been ignored for years and years, and some of us are sick of it and we have a right to be.

It should all fall on the states, with the voters deciding. Study history if you are still confused.

thanks golf for the help. Im 25, Youngster, and still have alot to learn with spelling, we are always learning.

I find for most the time people attack me on my spelling when I hit a nerve and they can’t defend their position with a logical answer.

I became a critical thinker impart because I had to learn a lot on my own in an early age because of being deaf. I also find I was not indoctrinated by the school system because I could not hear the teacher anyways. hahah

Dude, forget what people say. You are doing absolutely fine. If you can articulate exactly what you want to convey, then that's all that matters. Anyway, it's the internet where small typos don't matter, and anybody who points them out during a debate/conversation lacks self-confidence, is incompetent and should piss off.

More power to you, mate

I'm not waving the white flag.

We can't change policy unless we change our culture.

We can't change our culture unless we change our outlook.

We can't change our outlook unless we change ourselves.

Time for a more radical approach, time for some real change, time to get involved.

I agree with you Beez. The opposition wants us to stop trying and just go with the program. Not me, no way. But I've been hearing people on Fox news and elsewhere saying it's all over and nothing we can do. I don't believe that. I believe now more than ever we have to educate people about what is going on.

I know a lot of people here don't like me but I do not care because I am going to say things people don't like because it's sort of like a homeopathic remedy.

Because communism failed in Russia and somehow a bunch of commie leftover radicals think they can still make it work here.

This POTUS has many radical communists around him. They have been named already. You know who they are.

Jarrett, Axelrod , Ayers, Van Jones, Anita Dunn.

Then there are the Union bosses like Trumka. The Unions were an early tool for communists to get the blue collar Proletariat riled up and working for their cause.
There are plenty of communists still around.

IF they are not communist then they are socialist. Try somewhere around 70 members of Congress also members of Democratic Socialists of America.

They have been underground for some time and they came out of the woodwork like cockroaches the minute BO was elected in 08. I am almost certain it was a coup takeover of govt with a concerted effort.

What we are seeing is peoples character exposed. Hannity now flipping on illegal immigration.
Karl Roves meltdown.

People just whining!

I look at it as an oppourtunity to illustrate the economic slavery that the left wants us under and it also provides a perfect oppourtunity to grow OUR coalition!
