It would be quite easy to move on, if not forf the liberals "little mans syndrome". Always requiring them to seek and see validations for their beliefs in any and all things.

"Obama won, hahahahaha that proves we are better then conservatives" even though the only proof of anything this offers is that the majority didn't like Romney better than Obama, not that liberal ideologies are "right".

If any lesson lies in the election, it isn't that "this proves liberals were always right" or "that coservatives were always wrong". It simply proves to the republicans that next time they should listen to their base and send Ron Paul.

Oh I have NO intention on helping conservatives become relevant because I want them to continue doing what they are doing which is turning the Republican party into political joke. But then again, I'm not a Liberal so this thread wasn't addressed to me. I'm a progressive and yes, there is a difference.

I'm not that nice and I would never give a Conservative friendly advice.

Why civility? Because it would be nice to argue a position with levity and grace rather than name calling and teeht baring. It is my hope that people tone it down a bit, due to hos quickly things are escalating. I want to watch it all happen, but I am starting to feel that direct participation is helping no one.

I'm confused. While I agree civility is sorely needed... Your OP comes off like this to me:

Liberals, stop posting your views, Conservatives, have at it.

This is a bipartisan issue in my opinion, and we can do one of two things.

Stop political discourse entirely. Or continue as we are allowing both sides to say whatever it is they feel like saying, while attempting to bring civility to the process. Taking a step back and a hands off approach won't work.

I agree a lot of the Liberal posts as of late can come off as condescending. But, my friend, a lot of the conservative posts can not be viewed as anything but venomous.

I think it's going to take both sides to bring civility to the situation. The fact is, you really aren't going to sway someones opinion here, only that person can change their view. What we should be trying, instead, is to merely clearly state our own views.

Instead of finding all the faults you see with the Republican or Democratic parties, maybe you should look for the things that unite you. Regardless of what the media tells you, Dems and Repubs share many similar views and goals. Both parties are internally divided.

Another division thread...by members and with members I honestly thought knew better. What apparently is intended as a plea to civility is, in an of itself yet another invitation for a divisive pissing contest that has absolutely no value or point but to pull everyone back into the illusion that has us choosing between the less of two evils instead of the better of two "leaders"...

Liberal/Conservative
Demo/Republican
left/right
red/blue
up/down
black/white

you people are being played so hard its becoming unbearable to watch and listen to. The hemispheres of your brains are merely fighting one another for control and none of you are the wiser to see past this...you still persist and insist on playing your dichotomous game.

FOX, CNN, MSNBC are suddenly trusted and valued new sources again to the liberals because they are singing a tune they agree with...when that tune changes and democrats/liberals are criticised they will be back to MSM propaganda machines...but apparently to liberals at this point in time the MSM is a beacon of truth...
gimme a break...

They are merely inciting more division....

The conservatives are absolutely feeding into this as well being defensive at every other turn and lashing back...

Im sorry I don't usually call names but all of you are sick...sick in the head...

indeed, the frikkin elections are over
all the arguing about who's going to screw the country over for the next four years, and the political trolls should seriously STFU already.

that said, OP does have a point, after all the insults and low down dirty behavior from both sides
the victors offering a a white flag and calling to join forces is so much hypocrisy
and sounds more like a call to : "drop your pants, bend over, and take it, while i beat my chest and hoot"

Apologies, truly.

Good intentions all the way, bad execution...maybe.

I found to many posts and threads (including mine) that were suggesting how the conservative movement /should/ change, and there were a lot of contention in those threads.

Our ideas on solutions are so vastly different, that a paradigm shift to either side would be a massive shift in values and principles.

Allow us to agree to disagree.

Getting all "preachy" to conservatives about how to think and vote is not a good approach.

Agreed, sound kind of like a R.I.N.O.

I know your intentions were of an honest to goodness nature...and we should all know by now that good intentions sometimes pave the road to hell...the intent doesn't not guarantee a just outcome and nor is the intent an excuse against an unwanted outcome.

I know your intention was to repair and unite with a plea to your constituents to do the same with their republican counterparts...I'm not condemning the intention, I'm condemning what should be by now...an obvious outcome of division.

teeht baring

How do I do that, exactly?

Yes. please liberals don't be sore winners, be gracious, and congratulation, I can't wait to see how much your guy accomplishes in the next four years.

I am glad you are responsible and not me.

Seriously,

So, as a basic run down. Conservatives and Reps need to act and think more like Liberal Progressives.

No thanks.

I'm politically a moderate. I grew up in a conservative household but went to a very liberal college. Although I lean towards liberal policies, the liberal attitude of being the only ones with the correct view gets to me.

There are some issues with liberals that could be addressed, the most important one being the fact that a strong family structure (including gay marriage) is something that helps the middle-class. In addition, they are very intolerant of individuals with different viewpoints.

As I said before, I agree with a lot of liberal views, especially their tendency to work with scientific evidence and their work towards a society where everyone can live in comfort.

Of course, there are issues I have with conservatives as well (especially radical conservatives), but those are usually very well addressed here and in the media.

That said, if the conservative party was able to completely re-think their outdated viewpoints, and come up with a positive message about what they wanted to happen while still working with existing social programs and accepting reality, I think they could make a strong case and come out looking as the more progressive party.

They might think this is not possible, but if they took the time to thoroughly understand liberal policy instead of being afraid of it, they might be able to make adjustments to it in some way that could benefit our nation.

Another practical solution is for the Republican party to split into two parties, with one party existing to represent the more religious ones, and one party to represent the conservatives who are interested in changing our reality.

If done correctly, all three parties could have similar shares of seats in the senate and the house, religious people like Mormons would still be represented, and anyone could have an equal chance at the presidency.

While we are at it, why not split the Democrats? Did you know that Catholics are traditionally Democratic due to its advancement of social programs, but have been turned off by its recent hostility towards religion and abortion policies? I think I might join that party.

Well, the death of the Democratic party as it is will happen soon enough once they all die off, since they aren't very keen on raising families... in addition, single mothers, although admirable, face many challenges when it comes to working full-time and supporting their kids.

Although we are currently living in a society where individuals are able to be more individualistic due to the success of their parents, the fact that they are not interested in laying down a comfortable living situation for their children will eventually result in a generation that wants to see individual and family progress again.

Please stop interchanging Republican and Conservative as if they are synonomous. They are not. Mitt romney IS NOT a Conservative in any way(nor is McCain), so to call this a defeat for Conservatives is wrong. Conservatism lost when Ron Paul lost. The vast majority of Republicans are unprincipaled and ignorant, and I would like to think this will be a wake up call for them, but we all know that it won't be. The GOP will continue to field progressive right wingers who attempt to come off as moderates, and they will continue to lose every 4 years, and that is fine by me. It's time for red states to start seceeding from the union. It's time for individual states to come together and form new, sovereign confederations apart from the tyranny of Washington D.C. and all of the areas of America where the ignorant, progressive loving receipient class live.

Yeah, I miss the good old days of those kind of threads. It would seem that this liberal, conservative, left, right nonsense would have gotten old by now. Especially among us, here on ATS. We all know it's a sham, yet, alot of people still want to acknowledge these fabricated differences. Whether you're a so-called conservative, or a so-called liberal, at the end of the day, we're ALL AMERICANS, and the gov doesn't represent us. By continually dividing ourselves, they WILL win, people. It's chess, not checkers, and they're playing for keeps.

Instead, stand back, and allow the flames to simply be. The Conservatives will make their bed as they please, successful or not.

All it takes for evil to win, is for good men to do nothing.

No but they do need to grow the # up and stop spewing lies about Obamacare. It's funny how NONE of the small businesses that are complaining about it have done their research. Under 200 employees? You need to READ and not threaten to cut jobs, raise prices or move out of the country.

And while they're at it, DROP the #ing socialist meme because it's as rotten as week-old fromunda cheese.

Once conservatives do this, a constructive dialogue can take place between both sides.

You do what you want but don't be shocked if someone calls out your ignorance.

I find it interesting that because Obama won by a 2% margin that somehow this means that the GOP should become more Liberal. It's been tried and we got neocons out of it.

What we need is constitutionalism within the ranks of the GOP. That is the ONLY way to beat the dems and their progressive allies in the future.

If the GOP continues down the "bigger government but different" road they will bleed support until they fail as a party entirely.

Personal responsibility, liberty, and fidelity to the constitution. Conservatives have been warned.
