if they can't shoot down a drone, they are not dangerous.
They can shoot down. They didn't
The drone doesn't travel as fast as the fighters. I see it as nothing more than a show of will from the Iranian Republican Guard.

I question the naked bloated bodies as well when the story first broke.
The speculation at the time is that they were either martyrs or were already dead....

Funny, someone already beat you to that response....although doubly true.

Of course it's disputed...

Linky

Iran Air Flight 655 reportedly squawked Mode II (Iranian F-14 Tomcat) IFF for a moment; personnel proceeded to re-label the target from "Unknown Assumed Enemy" to "F-14"

From your own link:

The Aegis system was involved in a disaster in which USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air Flight 655 during 1988 resulting in 290 civilian deaths.

It was determined by a formal military investigation[11] that the Aegis system was completely operational and did not have any maintenance problems. The investigation ruled that had the commanding officer relied on the complete tactical data displayed by the Aegis system the engagement might never have occurred. Additionally, psychological effects of the crew subconsciously manipulating the data to accord with a predefined scenario greatly contributed to the false identification. The investigation found that the Aegis Combat System did not contribute to the incident, but did aid in the investigation by means of recorded target data. The discrepancies are as follows:

You are correct that it is disputed, as it should be since the portion you quoted from your link is under the "discrepancy" category in the "personel report to CO", you conveniently left that part out, but at least you admitted that it's disputed.

The military never lies to cover their butts...(That was sarcasm btw)

I was expecting something factual, shame on those who starred that post

You guys eat all this stuff up like it's dinner time after a hard day's work

In fact some of the comments in this thread are very frightening since many of you are accepting this report from CNN that quotes the Pentagon as fact without even thinking that maybe this could be a total psy-op.

To be fair, I was not there and do not know for sure whether or not this incident happened, neither were any of you so none of you know either. But we cannot accept this recent drone incident as fact just because the Pentagon says it's true, this is the same Pentagon that lied about Iraq and Aghanistan among many other things.

I would expect more from senior members, but many of you cannot resist any chance to forward the "bomb Iran" agenda. The war hawks are in abundance these days and it's rather depressing.

I've never advocated bombing Iran and I said upfront it was disputed. Yet, you've never heard of this angle. Bodies don't bloat in a matter of hours.

Also, I'll try to live up to your expectations of a "Senior Member" next time.

ATS lately has been all about going to war. Every time there is a prediction, or an incident people come across as happy that the next war is about to start, or that WWIII is here. I've never seen so many people screaming for war over just about every little thing.

Note to Iran...

There was no pilot.

So if your intent was to intimidate...Fail.

The truth is...

A guy with a joystick eating a bag of Flaming Cheetos and drinking Red Bull.

In a craft traveling 12 knots. Schooled two of your best warplanes.

Maybe you guys should reconsider the whole "Drive Israel into the Sea" talk.

The Frogfoot is far from their best warplane. It just happened to be the one that intercepted the Predator. They have MiG-29s and other much more advanced aircraft.

I really have nothing new to add but just wanted to mention that battle is never straight forward.

Grant it, this was not a battle per say, but put yourself in the Iranian pilots seats, They see this object flying near their air space, knowing full well the technological capability of the US, and all of a sudden they are unsure of exactly if that aircraft is in their territory or not. They probably had commanders yelling through the head sets and probably many other disorienting factors and next thing you know your heat beat is jacked and your finger pulls the trigger or your finger presses a button, i dont know what they have to do to fire

It could have been a mistake or a wanted act of aggression, to many unknowns.

This is priceless

So now some of you are trying to imply that Iran staged the death of the innocent people on that flight by using dead bodies from the morgue in an attempt to justify the incident for flight Iran Air Flight 655. For this theory to hold any water Iran would have had to know ahead of time that the flight was going to be shot down. Come on guys, get a grip

I never knew Iran could tell the future, perhaps they are using the services of Mrs. Cleo?

If I ever imply certain conspiracies of the false flag variety I get flamed.

And Slayer, if it makes you feel any better I frequently get told that people expect more of me because of that darn gold trim around my profile when I post so I feel your pain bro

They wouldn't have to know that it would get shot down, just have the possibility that it would, and use that to embarrass the US. It actually in a way makes sense. They launch a speedboat attack on another ship, knowing that would get the US Navy involved, which would have people on edge. During that time a plane launches out of a known Iranian military base, flying towards the US ships. A few "simple mistakes" by the airline crew, and the odds of the ships firing on them goes way up.

But how do you explain the fact that something like 90% of the bodies recovered were naked, bloated, and already smelling horrible, within a few hours of them being killed?

I'm curious to see how the US would respond if the tables were flipped and Iran had drones flying up and down the coast of USA in international waters/space?? Would the US be understanding to that or would they likely fire at the drones too? Its always good to look at both perspectives before jumping to conclusions...

Maybe they missed on purpose just to send a warning, knowing that a hit would DEFINITELY start WWIII

Maybe you shouldn't fly drones over another sovereign nation's airspace?

Just sayin'.

Washington (CNN) -- Iran said it took "decisive" action after a U.S. drone entered Iranian airspace in the Persian Gulf last week, a commander said.

www.cnn.com...

You do realize our government has claimed to be in international waters before and was not. We learn the truth much later.

Haha, I love the manipulative wording.

Naughty Iranian's aggressively shooting down our instruments of war!

This was not told the American people before the election. This POTUS is not being straight with the American people. This is also why I have been so frustrated since the election. He's just not being honest with people and he's being used as a marketing tool to market socialism to the people.

Why didn't the media report this when it happened? It can only be because the admin didn't allow it. Even Fox didn't report this news till after the election.

I might add, this is what 61 million people voted for. A POTUS who won't tell the American people we're dealing with Iranian aggression militarily one week before election. How proud they all should be.

Surely with this POTUS being all nice to our enemies the Iranians wouldn't really just go nutcase and start shooting at us.
Also it was reported yesterday that Valerie Jarrett, Obama's senior advisor, is planning secret meetings with the Iranians.

Just look at how they handled the Soviets, and now the Russian Federation. They simply escort them until they leave.

So Iran would never lie to us about this?

A few problems with the theory that they intercepted it in their airspace.

Why would they make two passes with a gun and stop?
Why would they use Su-25s to intercept it, and not a fighter like the MiG-29, or an F-5, or an F-14?
Why wouldn't they have used missiles against it?

Well that's because Russia is a formidable beast of a country.. A fight that the US doesn't want to have, especially with those cold war thoughts still VERY fresh in the back of all our minds... Russia is considered a country we can deal with.. Iran is looked at as a radical country that's always up to no good, so I bet the US would consider Iran on the US coast more of a threat than Russia...
