So are we allowed to talk about it?

I just did a search on ATS of "Colorado Marijuana" and several threads came up but every single one of them had been 404'd ??

I thought the reason people couldn't discuss this before was due to them being illegal/illicit?

Now that these laws have passed, Marijuana is actually Legal in these states so what is the ATS position?

I'm sure (as always) there will be a way that ATS decides that people still can't talk about it, but I cannot see how that is now possible seeing that it is now legal in (some of the) United States.

I remember a Dutch guy saying it was legal in his country and why couldn't he talk about it and the official response was "because the site was based in the US, the laws of The US were the one's that mattered" (I'm obviously paraphrasing)

I don't wish to discuss it and nor have I any vested interest in the topic, but I have always thought that the blanket ban on the topic was not the right way to deal with it.

So now that it is Legal..... What is the position ATS?

Cheers

Being from Colorado - have to say - I'm a little curious as to how they'll handle this one too

not a subject I spend much time on myself - but this is an interesting situation

from our Governor:
Hickenlooper reaching out to feds on Colorado marijuana legalization

going to be fun to see how all this gets worked out

:-)

I live in Washington state and so would talking about Pot be the same now as talking about beer on ATS?

Well it absolutely should be.

Alcohol is mind altering for sure.... and people talk on ATS all the time about how wasted they got, they even had/have a "bar" thread somewhere.

But I'm sure, ATS will find a way to not allow this.

It's a shame really.

Mature, educational discussions are what help people become informed.

Not blanket bans and prohibition

Considering the topics the vast majority of the membership want to discuss here, having that topic devolve into what it always devolves into only serves to further reduce the already tenuous credibility, in the minds of the masses, of those topics. The point of ATS is to get our membership's ideas, theories, observations, and discussions on the myriad topics we do "allow" seen by as wide a viewing audience as possible. To purposefully allow that to be denigrated by this topic is folly.

We have tried and tried in the past and it has failed miserably every single time. The definition of insanity comes to mind here...

I'd also point out that there are several net filters, employed by thousands of organizations, that block sites with content of this nature which would effectively limit the number of potential viewers by a hugely significant number.

And finally, this site exists because advertising revenue (barely) covers the costs. Advertisers don't want their brands presented on sites whose content include illegal drugs, porn, gore, etc...

It makes zero sense that we would greatly reduce the perceived credibility of the topics that the site was founded on, limit the potential reach of our member's thoughts and ideas by a significant margin, and alienate the single source of revenue that allows the site to continue, all for the benefit of one topic that has never, ever, generated anything of value at all.
