I'm from Fresno.

The most recent story I heard was that the shooter was a disgruntled ex-husband/boyfriend who just got out of prison and hunted down his ex-wife/girlfriend(and apparently some of the coworkers, maybe at random?)

Either way, awful story, especially when it hits close to home, regardless of his motive or history.

Edit: The official story seems to contradict what I heard. Who knows.

You may have hit on something there. The bullying that goes on in public schools spills over into adult life. The issue has never been correctly addressed. It might be that if we solve that problem it could have a positive effect on preventing tragedies such as this.

Unless the situation is the one ofNight laid out of a jilted lover.

Then we'd have to ban relationships or ban the ending of relationships.

Emotional instability is rampant on this planet.

And just to add in the conspiracy element it seems awful convenient that it happened on election day... Oooh better go vote for Obamney to get those guns off the streets... Oh wait fast and furious anyone... LOL!

Having said that my heart goes out to the unfortunate victims of this deadly political theater especially all those in foreign lands brainwashed in to dying for what they think is protecting freedom...

Youv'e hit the nail on the head

the value of life. ... hmmmmmm theres some food for thought.

thanks
How can we argue the value of life in a nation that slaughters defenseless babies every single day for the sole crime of not being born yet?

A 2001 study conducted by the Guttmacher Institute found that the average overall cost of an abortion in the United States was $468

Stand to reason that using this model your life increases in value until about the age of fifty then it drops back down.

But this is way off topic.

... and what a messed up world we have, where events like this are met with comments like "who can blame him? Haven't you ever had to work with an obnoxious person before?"

People don't deserve to die because they're annoying, and it wasn't that long ago that even implying such a thing was unheard of and repugnant.

Welcome to the new desensitized America. It's sad but true.

Deadly workplace shooting in California
Editor's note: An employee of Apple Valley Farms in Fresno, California, opened fire on his co-workers Tuesday, killing one and wounding three others before shooting himself, police said.

[Updated 6:06 p.m.] Police say the gunman and a second victim have died.

[Updated 2:03 p.m.] The business identified by authorities as Apple Valley Farms apparently goes by the name Valley Proteins. Calling a phone number listed on a website as being for Apple Valley Farms led CNN to a voicemail for Valley Proteins, which said there was an emergency and that the business was closed for the day. Police also mentioned that some of the reports they received about the shooting used the name Valley Proteins.

On its website, Valley Proteins says it develops animal and pet food ingredients.

[Updated 1:35 p.m.] The alleged gunman was found outside with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. The victim in serious condition was a 32-year-old woman found outside with a gunshot wound in the lower back.

The two victims in critical condition were found inside the business. One, a 34-year-old man, appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head; the other, a 28-year-old man, had been shot in the neck, police said.

A 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alleged gunman Lawrence Jones had worked at Apple Valley Farms for 14 months, police said. According to a co-worker, when Jones came to work this morning "he did not appear to be himself," Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. About 3 1/2 hours later, he pulled out a handgun and opened fire, shooting four people, police said.

Authorities don't know what may have provoked the attack.

As many as 30 workers were inside the business at the time, police said.

Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno told CNN it received four patients from Apple Valley Farms.

[Posted 1:23 p.m.] An employee of Apple Valley Farms in Fresno, California, opened fire on fellow employees Tuesday, killing one and wounding three others before shooting himself, police said.

Two victims are in critical condition; one is in serious condition and expected to survive, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

The alleged gunman, 42-year-old Lawrence Jones, is in critical condition, police said.

Jones has an extensive criminal history, authorities said.

People don't go on a rampage for nothing. Something set him off. Maybe the boss, maybe the gossip train workers. This stuff happens everyday, and everyday it gets posted on ATS. Lack of empathy. No.

So you think that if someone upsets someone else they are then responsible for getting themselves shot?

You are way messed up on that. Sorry

It's amazing how fast you people can turn this around into something I'm not. But, whatever.

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Clattering machinery at a chicken-processing plant provided all the cover Lawrence Jones needed to kill two co-workers execution style and wound two others Tuesday, police said.

Jones' motive was unknown, but it was clear he had targeted his victims, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. About 30 employees were working at the plant during the shooting.

"He had opportunity to shoot other co-workers that were in the business at this time, but he chose not to," Dyer said. "He walked around them in order to get very close to the intended targets, place the gun very close and fire a round."

news.yahoo.com...

He targeted those people for a reason. Doesn't mean I have lack of empathy for the victims. But what did the victims do to set him off?

And last time I checked this was a conspiracy site not the National Enquirer.

We all have to make choices in life and he chose the wrong one.
