This is a tricky spot, because if you claim you never allow records to influence you, than we would know that is untrue because it is nearly impossible.

So really a balanced position is most favorable.

The media influences us all, even me, to an extent. To what extent is the question. So of course I can safely assume media influences you, as it does us all.

Race is definitely an issue for some, on both sides of the fence. To pretend it isn't is to live in Fantasy Land.

Having said that, color isn't an issue with me. Truth and history are. To continue to play the democrat / republican game, going back and forth every four years because you're disappointed, or stubbornly holding on to a party affiliation despite the sad truth that they aren't doing anything for this country and the electorate, is why we're in the mess we are now.

People will vote for the "lesser of two evils" based on the dumbest things. They like the guy, they could sit down and have a beer with him. They believe the lies these idiots spout out, not remembering that every politician back to Andrew Jackson has been a damned liar. They like the way they look (how many guys went gaga over Sarah Palin, and voted that ticket 4 years ago based on her looks?). They hate the other guy and want him out. They let their religious beliefs lead them to the candidate that panders to their "morals".

People are, as a rule, petty, and they think small. Is race still an issue? Yep. Until we further evolve and all become the same color, race will matter to some people, and they will base their vote on that.

The psychology of it will give you an aneurysm.

which would probably be based off of their parents/family member views, or something they have seen on tv.

It will never be based off their personal experience with other "races", becaues if that were the case they obviously wouldnt believe in "race".

I also dont agree with people voting for Obama because hes "black", but Im sure most of you understand why someone would do that.

Most racism is either ignorance or hatefulness.. take your pick.Racists get SOMETHING psychologically out of the hate.. and hate covered with "understanding". They are deficient. Ive never had the violent racism toward me or my kids ( half white) other than from blacks, WHen you have several black "youths jump you in a grocery store parking lot and call you white bitch.. i call that racism. I have just voted. The entire voting thing has become a big media circus in which race has become a big issue. Sorry but we live in a media - driven soundbit society. Race gives a circle code as to who is good and who is bad and it often s**ks because it is a stereotype.

I'm the same. It usually takes me a few sentences before I even begin to catch on to the concept - and once I do I find myself nearly unable to find words.

That's why the postings on FB took me aback enough to post this thread. I'd read countless accusations about this on ATS and dismissed them all as rhetoric. But was shocked to actually see it in my own world. Isolated as my ex's behavior may or may not be... It filled me with a desire to open a dialogue.

If we do not live in a post racial world - as I would hope... Well then we need to start the process once and for all. The color of a persons skin or their heritage is wonderful in regards to self identity - but irrelevant in all other aspects of life.

I'm half Irish and half Native American. Both things I take pride in. But only in how I view my own culture - not something I want others judging.

If any of that makes sense....
