To loop this back on topic, Willard being a Mormon has no impact on why I would not vote for him.

OK - - how about we shake hands here and agree with what we agreed on with Willard.

Loved the Willard the Rat
I don't think I've ever actually seen that movie - - but if I ever do I know what face I'm gonna super impose.

*SHAKE* Of course and I mean no disrespect or offense. You can be wrong and I still like you

But yes with "Willard" we can be agreed. I am an independent but there is no way in Hell (Outer Darkness for you LDS out there...) I would ever vote for this abomination (ha) named Mittens Romeny!

BTW Willard in the movie was a much better character then the "Willard the Rat Ramknee (into the collective American crotch)" running to ruin our Nation!

Romney is a globalist elitist his Mormon background is just window dressing to try and portray him as as man of god when in fact he is a liar a cheat and a scumbag... No different then Obama or any other lying scum that gets the nod.

That is the real problem focusing on his religion is just a distraction...

Damn...I really should have put it like that! You are of course absolutely right and even I fell for it to argue about it...D'OH!

Agree

It has made me wonder...there were great some great candidates in the primaries where religion had zero influence!

It is like when they set up McCain (with dipstick pitbull) Painlynn. I wanted McCain to have beaten Bush and ran in 2000! BUT NOOoooooOOOOOO!

Or Bob (Viagra nightmares) Dole running against Clinton!

Do they want to loose these elections?

A Mormon Rich Elitist...I could not think of a worse candidate for someone like me to NOT vote for!

Ron (Paul) you should have ran 3rd party my nutty little friend!

The op has asked a question if having a president, who is a Mormon a good idea.
The arguments have been stated before:
How can we trust that he will have the interest of the US in mind and not on his church.
Can he do the right thing, or will the church leaders pull the strings.
Can the man separate between his ties to his church and the running of the government.

These have been stated before, and yet the last time a person, who became President of the United States, whose religious beliefs were called into question, was in the opinion of most people, one of the most dynamic and successful presidents ever. That man was JFK. He was a catholic, and during the campaign, his religious views were brought into belief, and used against him. Yet he prevailed and won the Presidency, being an effective President.

If old prejudices were to come into play, then how did Obama get into office?

As a lapsed LDS member for well over a decade who grew up in the church from birth (not the church in America of course but NZ, the American LDS are in my opinion more close nit and 'odder' than us non American LDS due to them living inside communities that are predominately populated with members, that always makes for a more insular and ridgid way of thinking, but any memebers of a religion that reside in a community like that tend to be more fundamental)... but anyway.

Id have no issue with an LDS, Hindu, Buddhist, Adventist, Catholic, Protestant etc President as long as they keep himself nonsecular (keep your morale values in decision making however since good values seem to be something missing from alot of politicians), but I DO have a problem with Romney, any member of the church who would be stupid enough to vote for him purely based on the fact hes a member (my mums like that to a degree, and for her this all fits into her own end of the world beliefs, roll on 2013 pleeeeease, which is infuriating, and she often ends arguments with "god will put in place who ever he needs to be there" which just gets me even more annoyed).

From what ive read and seen of Romney the last year, he's not a nice human regardless of his religious ties and that judgement is a hell of a lot more important than what if any religion he follows.

Also reading some of the things people try and twist as LDS belief (sure might be true but the way they put it smacks of trying to make it sound crazier than it would otherwise be, given some of the ritualistic and nutty dogma Catholics believe in) is a laugh, I kinda see how Masons feel I guess with all the wild accusations they get flung at em.

So no , no problem with a Mormon President... just not that one. Being Mormon isnt the problem, being Mitt Romney is...

Mormons shun alcohol, caffeine, premarital sex and drugs but according to Mitt it's ok to hold down a kid and cut his hair off, Dress up like a cop and pull people over in a fake cop car, abuse animals. See the disconnect here?

Firstly, thanks for the replies and thoughts...... This was not intended to 'bash' the Mormons (everyone can believe what they want) however my initial question was a serious and valid one....

Why would intelligent and independent individuals voting in a free election Vote for someone with such a skewed view on religion......?
My worry is that the US voting population wether Republican or democrat , should divorce religion from any rational thought....... And vote.......
Sadly this is not the case and I question how many Republican voters whom are so pro Romney Actually understand this mans religious beliefs........ Not many because they are probably swept up with the emotion of an emotionally charged and over monied campaign for the most important public job in the world........

How many of you have actually watched the 6 min clip ...? Watch it because it is as weird as Scientology IMHO .......
For the record I would ban ALL religion, including the mad mullahs etc etc because IMHO ALL religion is a man made control of fear which has no place in a society I want to be part of......

Regards

PDUK

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned "Lying for the Lord". My understanding of it is that Mormons are encouraged to lie when explaining something that might be unattractive/unpopular to a potential convert or non-believer. I don't know much about it, and you can google for yourself, as I don't know which entry I could post would be more credible.
Perhaps some Mormons or former Mormons could enlighten us on this?

To answer the OP, it does seem strange to me that it hasn't been more of an issue. A couple of people have mentioned this as well - I don't think Romney was ever 'meant' to win, so it's been a non-issue. Had he been a 'serious contender', I do think this would've sunk him. The Mormon religion does seem more nonsensical than most.

You don't realize you are bashing Mormons?

I'm a very intelligent and independent person. Mormon is actually a very good belief system. Far better then some others.

Ignorance of a belief - - doesn't really give you license to call it skewed.

I fear Paul Ryan more then I do Romney.

Now if you had referred all religions as being skewed - - - that would be different.

A new variety of man is beginning to separate out. The old type of man
will have but a stunted existence. All creative energy will be
concentrated in the new one. . . . I might call the two varieties [of
man] the god-man and the mass animal. . . . Man is becoming God--that
is the simple fact. Man is God in the making. (7. Hermann Rauschning, Hitler Speaks (Kessinger Publishing, LLC, 2006), pg 241-242)

Likewise, Hitler adhered to the religion of apotheosized man. In Hitler Speaks, Hermann Rauschning quotes Hitler as having declared: "Man is becoming God--that is the simple fact. Man is God in the making" (qutd. in Keith 151). In his coming kingdom of deified humanity, the Fuehrer envisioned a caste system where the "god-man" ruled the "mass animal" (Keith 151). www.conspiracyarchive.com...

Now, what is the Freemasonic Mormonism espousing?

Hitler was Mormon?

Mormon's have been known to massacre as well. I cannot imagine followers us Jesus murdering anyone. At least not in my vision of the Truth.
