I'm guessing almost all of those comments are from ATSers who signed up just to comment on that iReport. If you look at the user profiles of the commenters you can see that most of them signed up to CNN iReport in the last hour.

Redbirds analysis is right on. A crafty little hoax, funny actually.
This is just the start of the crap we are going to go through counting till years end.

Ya, I assumed many were jokes, but I am sure some are genuine. It could be that people just signed up because this topic was so scary to them so they felt a need to comment. Some are just plain hilarious. I would have posted more, but it takes a little bit to sort out all the other parts from a copy/paste, if you know what I mean.

Not really most sites can be hacked without much hassle, theres a famous Internet rapper named YTCracker who hacked Nasa's site and defaced it all in under an hour.

It is unlikely this is a hoax though, as there wouldn't be any point of BBC took it down right after it was posted.

Yes. Although I did get the Al Jazeera one from FB, but it looks as if the resolution is not even good enough to read on here.

It would seem to me if it were this easy to hack them, they would be hacked
a dozen times daily, thus destroying the website.

I'm starting to think somebody hacked a site like say CNN. The other news outlets picked up on the story and ran with it. All ending up with egg on their faces once it was realized it was bogus and they all yanked it.

Several NBC websites were hacked Sunday by a person or group calling itself "pyknic"and suggesting a possible link to the cyber-attack group Anonymous.

It appeared that the defacement of the affected sub-sites was cleaned up in a couple hours. NBC and its various websites appeared to be functioning normally as of Sunday evening. However, older versions maintained by search engines such as Google or Bing still bore the message "hacked by pyknic."

The message said: "Remember, remember the fifth of November." That reference suggested a link to Anonymous, a movement of cyber rebels.

So clearly trouble out there...
