It comes down to perspective.
The West looks upon itself from the inside out, only seeing the internal parts of the structure that it chooses to gaze upon at any one time.
The West looks at Nazi Germany from an outside perspective, witnessing the whole combined and judging from an outside perspective.
When you place the two side by side, the West (or just the US if you like) and Nazi Germany, and look at them both from without, ie: objectively, you
see a remarkably similar picture.
The problem is that so many identify themselves AS their nation, that they will never attempt to look at their nation (an extension of themselves
(from their personal perspective)) in an objective light lest they find something they disagree with, as in finding a flaw in their nation, they find
a flaw in themselves, thus turning the situation into an introspective event in which they must come to terms and face their own demons.
That, is something *most* people will never do willingly, at least in this lifetime. Facing ones own shadow is extremely difficult to do, and involves
not so much pain, but usually a pretty devastating ego (false self) shattering when done correctly.
Thus, for those who identify themselves as extensions of their nation (or vice versa), and who fear their shadows, there is only one possible course
of action: the adoption of a biased and skewed perspective that redeems the individual ego while ignoring the fact that the actions done to redeem the
individual ego, are also quite similar in nature to the actions taken by those that it, the ego, condemns.

Y'know, 'cuz you're totally free to do that kinda stuff here.
This is a great example of an ego defense mechanism. Instead of facing the quandary and arguing rationally, in the face of facing their shadows they
simply exclaim: "Leave then if you dont like it!", without ever actually refuting the points raised. It shuts down conversation, and avoids raising
those points that the ego cannot bear to witness while maintaining its current form. Pure ego defense of those who associate themselves heavily with
the nation they live in, and see it as an extension of their own personal being.
And that, is the problem, and the answer to the question posed in this threads title.
