Fresh allegations that a 'leading politician from the Thatcher years' was at the centre of a widespread paedophile ring were aired on the BBC's Newsnight programme tonight.

Alleged abuse victim Steven Messham told Newsnight he was raped more than a dozen times after being picked up in a car that turned at night at the children's home in North Wales where he lived.

Newsnight described the man as 'a shadowy figure of high public standing', but failed to name him.

Don't know what is up with this. They run the story but refuse to name names. Maybe it will leak out in the next few days. This scandal just sickens me. Those poor kids. They had no where to turn because you just didn't talk about that stuff back then and they were probably heavily threatened as well. It is hard to think about how widespread this child abuse is, especially at the level of the heads of governments, media, and institutions. SICK SICK SICK

I do. UK Politicians (Tory, Liberal & Labour) think they area a bunch of untouchable w**kers who can do whatever they want. Including sexually abusing children.

And they are right. The largest circulation right wing UK newspapers is frightened of publishing the name.

What hope do we have of protecting our self from the political class if a powerful newspaper with financial resources of millions can't call a spade a spade?
