The reasons for why this scam worked is because 'the poster didn't have much time', and the attraction was seeing some fresh meat/1st Class doom porn. That's why 'another poster' stepped in to supply 'software', so someone could be first in line with the gore. It sounded like the earth had cracked, and, wanting to see it blurred common sense. It's not every day you just suck up stuff to download after giving up personal ID to a stranger, is it?

No, no it isn't! But I didn't think much of her doing it. Maybe a lil too trusting, but with a good heart. I just assumed she was DLing stuff from websites like verizon or youtube or something to make it possible to post. I didnt catch where she said she was dLing software from other posters.

The internet is going downhill as far as finding out what I need to know. This stunt seemed bloody obvious, and I suspect the OP got exactly what he wanted. And I don't mean flags and stars.

The best hoaxes rack up points long after the cover's blown. One really ought to jump to the end of a thread when things seem fishy, instead of trying to be the 1st person to demonstrate they have oodles of impulses they can't control.

I'm just glad I threw in my 1st post early on. I know most everyone here hates me, and I understand why. It's the least of my problems. Am I supposed to change for popularity's sake? It would be a poor trade-off.

Aw i dont hate you. I usually like riddle talk. Im just tired, and wanted to understand you. I started reading this before work, Im so sleepy i cant even remember if i posted early, dont think so. I really didnt have anything to add. Was curioiusly waiting to see what people would make of the videos she took.

Interesting thread, I wonder how easy it is to fake a FEMA uniform, or a police uniform, or a fireman uniform in the middle of a disaster? Specifically a fireman or FEMA uniform. Who's going to fall for the "lone fireman" trick? What good is that guy? No fire truck, no equipment, bah.

As for the legitimacy of the phone number thing,
In the age before "smart phones", the phones that had video capability usually had 3 options for sharing.
1) Send video via text (mms)
2) Send video to email.
3) Connect the phone to the computer via USB and extract the .avi or .mpg

IMO, it would have been less of a risk to just have her email the video, from her phone, to someone's email.
The fact that OP would rather share via text (and acquire someone's number) is somewhat suspicious.
More damage can be done with a personal phone number than someone's junkmail email address.

Aside from that, we are 5 pages in and no video.

Edit to add: Dont get me wrong im interested in the video doom for sure. Its the Scooby doo mystery of rising water from the ground!

To me, the video shows air and water rising from the ground. This is what happens when rising water rises against trapped air. Water cannot be compressed, air can. Rising water compresses air, air finds a way to escape.

I have been through a flood and I have experienced water rise that fast. A storm surge will put a lot of pressure into underground air pockets. From what others have said, New York has some great big cavities. It is all just hydraulics.

I'm still waiting for her to send more pics and vids, she has on her husband's phone. She said they are depending on the kindness of other people to let them use internet connection/computer, and showers for them and their kids. As soon as she sends more data, I'll post it to this thread for her.

What came to my mind is that sea water warms up in the underground system and pressure changes and this makes water bubbles. Sea water cools down and warms up much slower than water without salt, due that bubbling and increase of water can happen days after main event. This is pretty much same thing which can be seen when filling insulin syringes.
